They then put him on harness and we went for a short walk around the block. This was to test if Safari was the right dog for me. Luckily all went good and Safari was soon to be my Seeing Eye Dog. However as I have 7 cats and Safari was still a young dog, the cats ran when they spotted him because they were scared and Safari got silly and chased them around the house. The trainer soon got him out of that habit as he was only used to the cats at the kennels in SEDA and now the cats rule Safari and he just sits there calmy. Bio: On August 23rd, 2006, Seeing Eye Dogs Australia brought Safari to my house so we can have some time to bond before we trained together on August 28th, 2006. The training went very good with me and Safari and we have built a very close bond together. I am so thankful that he is my eyes and guides me safely and is my best friend. Melissa is a 28 year old blind female. Her left eye is totally blind, but has some light perception in it. Her right eye is near blind with hand movement vision that only picks up shadows and outlines really close.
Safari is a Seeing Eye Dog and comes from Seeing Eye Dogs Australia in Kensington, Victoria. Safari was born on the 5th September,2003 and has pure Golden Retriever parents named Bella- Rose and Cody. I have given Safari a middle name which is after his father so it's Safari Cody.
I have been so lazy writing in my diary. I have been too busy guiding my blind mum around.
Let's see some of the things I have done lately...
On Tuesday I guide mum to her computer course in Prahran.
Every second Thursday we travel all around Victoria as mum is in the white cane wanderers group. The funny thing is that I'm the only dog guide. The rest of the group uses white canes.
Every other Thursday and Friday we usually travel around the shopping centres doing Seeing Eye Dogs Australia promotional shopping centre tours. It's a chance for SEDA to raise money for there dogs to graduate and help other blind/vision impaired people.
Wednesday and Mondays it's usually just shopping days.
Recent news:
A few weeks ago mummy contacted her vets as she noticed that I have had a vomiting problem so they asked her to bring a fresh urine sample to check my kidneys as they once got sick in 2006.
Anyway the results showed I have a kidney infection...Boy was my mummy worried for me, I even caught her in the bedroom crying as she was worried my kidneys would fail. I also had an elizabethian collar on my neck as I had a hot spot rash at the end of my back. I wasn't too happy about it but was relieved when mum explained that it's for the purpose of me not licking myself so my rash can heal "Oh well my mummy knows best" and you knw what she was correct I did heal "Thank you mum".
Yesterday I went to Brandon Park shopping centre in Mulgrave and helped with the shopping centre promotion with SEDA. I saw my other Seeing Eye Dog pals Destiny,Sage and Chief. Actually Chief is a pup in training and I think he is doing really well.
Today my grandfather is going to the vets to pick up my new food. I was on the Hills science diet but I am being switched over to the Royal Canin renal diet. Hopefully all will go well on it.
