Likes: He is a big cuddle bunny! He wants to be petted all the time. Conchobar loves his food! He's getting used to a new 'fresh diet' and is trying chicken and salmon mixed with chicken broth.
Pet-Peeves: He doesn't like when he doesn't get the attention he deserves. Even at night, he will wake us up for pets. He doesn't like to be alone even for a second, another dog getting attention when he's not. He doesn't like to ride in the car for long.
Favorite Toy: his Kong. He doesn't really play with toys very much. He likes to wrestle with mom sometimes.
Favorite Food: chicken, split pea soup, mackeral, tuna, green beans, chicken liver bites, and the occasional beef bone.
Favorite Walk: the dog park, the neighborhood, the state hospital grounds
Best Tricks: Spinning at the door to greet us when we come home, hopping up on the chiase lounge where he likes to sleep while we are working in the office, and he loves to snuggle.
Arrival Story: When our Lindsay passed away this July, we were devastated. We miss her every day and we will never "get over" her loss. But we thought, after a time that it was right that we open our hearts and our home to another dog who needed a home just as our Lindsay did so many years ago. We began to look around, and to think about our lifestyle, and most importantly to think about what our 12 year old retriever would need in order to accept another member of the pac. We thought a sheltie would fit the bill. So we did some research about organizations that do sheltie rescue and we found a great place not too far from where we live called The Sheltie Shack, www.sheltieshack.com. We filled out the adoption application and after our references were checked, we were invited to come to the site. The volunteer was very knowledgable about all the dogs in her care, and she was very intuitive about us. We brought our retriever Cuailgne ("Kool-Lee") and she helped us pick out some possible adoptees. Of course, in the end it was very difficult to choose just one! So we chose two. Conchobar was one. MacKenzie was the other. Conchobar was very affectionate and he had those too cute ears. He was also 8 years old and we felt he might have a hard time finding a home. He had been a breeder dog all his life. That was it for us! We wanted to bring him home and show him how beautiful life can be. He comes home September 22, 2007.
Bio: Conchobar MacNessa is named after the greatest High King of Ireland. MacNessa was the ideal King and there are lots of stories about his very successful reign. I thought our little boy deserved a very regal name because I just know he will find his new life to be as big and legendary as that King of old. He will live an epic life from now on!!

My family has had to come together and be strong for our Good Girl Cuailgne. On January 20th, 2009 Cuailgne passed away. Our best friend was 14 and half years old. Her kidneys were in the final stages of failure and while she was unaware of this and not in any pain, the signs were there. If her humans did not act quickly she would very soon become aware and be in great pain. Her humans decided against heroic measures that would seperate her from her home, her humans and her fur siblings. In the end she was at home, surrounded by her family, eating her very favorite foods smoked salmon, turkey and why not, some chocolate (NEVER give your dog chocolate!). She passed away unafraid and blissfully happy. I, Conchobar Mac Nessa mourned her loss as did her humans. We think of her every day. We miss her everyday. We thank her every day for the wonderful life she shared with all of us. Her humans, most of all, thank her for making them better humans. xoxoxo
