Arrival Story: so....i just found out that the story i had on here wasnt true...so i'm waiting on the true story :)
oh, and the kennel i mentioned, is NOT the one that i finally got him from...but that part of the story may not be true too...hmm....i think some stories got mixed up!!!!
come back soon!
Bio: This is from the kennel in Conneticut that I picked Arko (they called him Robby) up at:
This is the story as I remember it:
We received an email for rescue. A breeder in NY I believe had 66 dogs, Shepherds and Kuvaszs. He was weird. He did have some of the kennels welded shut to prevent his staff from stealing the dogs. Arko's kennel was way in the back and was overgrown.... they almost didn't find him and the dog (Duke I believe, living happily in this area) in the next kennel. Those kennels were welded shut.
Anyway, the breeder died and his staff didn't report the death. Instead, they left him dead in the house and they let all the dogs out to run free so they could rob him. Animal control came in and found him dead in his house. They had to use hoses to control the dogs and I believe a couple of shepherds died. (They were caught and went to jail).
Kuvasz rescue came in and took all the Kuvaszs. The Shepherds went to a shelter.
The GSDs were evaluated for placement. A few had to be put down. Arko was put on the adopt/place list. Unfortunately, he bit staff 2 times so he was put on the euthanasia list. At that point, they covered his kennel so he couldn't see out and no one had any contact with him. His kennel was very long and narrow so he really only could spin around to turn. I don't know how long he was at the shelter but I think it was a few months.
The euthanasia was scheduled for a Tuesday. We got the general rescue email sent to everyone asking for help on Monday. There was something about him that called us so we said we would take him and work with him. So because we were committed to taking him, they didn't euthanize him.
He was driven down from Albany (I think)and we drove up half way and met at a rest stop.
We put him in the office kennel for a long time. Our staff was afraid of him because he had bitten 2 times. When we got him, he would only circle in his run because he was used to the small space. He was really frightened and withdrawn and very very thin. Painfully so.
We fed him a lot and upped his protein etc. and fed him satin balls made with liver and peanut butter! I felt like the witch in Hansel and Gretel, fattening him up!
Val took him back to neuter him and train him as well. She kept him in a crate in her garage. She said it was hard for her because she couldn't keep him in a kennel, he was a run away risk. She had him neutered and managed to get him leash trained, bless her soul!! We told her we would always take him back. When it got too cold in her garage, he came back here. We then put him in the main kennel where he had lots of dog and people contact because we felt he was ready to for contact and excitement. He was taken to the play yards on a daily basis and handled by different people.

I've Been On Dogster Since:
ahhhhh....i LOVE my new house!!! i have my own backyard thats fenced that mom throws the ball in for me!!!! its great!!! i have my own ROOM!!! my crate is in there, but when i think my pawrents dont know, i sleep on the futon :) man its soooo comfortable!!! and of course, there's my drawer!! sooo comfy...even though i barely fit :)
i got to me Rosie and Vincent....they are so cool!!! i can learn so much from them! i cant wait to hang out with them more often :) mom takes me to the park sometimes (not enough!!!) and i love love love to run around there and smell everything and, of course, mark everything!!! mom says i'm neutered, but i have no idea what that means :)
its almost christmas!!!!! and i get to go to south carolina!!!! yippeeeeee!!!!! i get to play with my fur sister morgan...well, she's kinda old and grumbly, but she'll kinda play :) and then we get to move to ohio!!!! oh man oh man oh man!! i'm so incredibly excited!!!!!!
I've been such a good boy! I havent chewed up anything of mom's, I'm starting to like her BF, and I eat all my food like a good boy!! I held mommy when she was crying and licked the tears from her face, I helped a old kitty cross the road, held the door for an older pup, sang Christmas carols to the pups in the shelter, and didnt curse my old owners.....I tried to spread cheer with kisses, wags, and woofs!
If you bring me these things I promise I'll be an even better boy!!!!
I want:
a new softie toy-no squeaker though please, they're scary!!
a new brother or sister to play with!!
panniers-then i would feel like i'm helping mom and i have a job :)
a new house with a big backyard in Ohio
a big bone with lots of meat to chew on
I think you can fit all those under the tree....well, maybe not the house, but maybe the tree can be in the new house? That would really make me happy, and mom...she's real worried about that :) And could you help mommy? Shes worried about so many things....her grandpoppa, her brother, her BF, her mom and dad, me, moving and everything that goes with it....
Thanks Santa Paws!!
I'll be sure to leave out the liver treats and warm chicken broth!!!! I hope you like them!! I'll even leave you a thermos of broth for your trip...Its got to be cold!!!
