Likes:
Playing with his tennis balls, bones, being let on the screened porch when we sit out there (he's a yard dog), walks (of course), ice water

Pet-Peeves:
Thunderstorms, strangers, not being a house dog (he didn't care 'til he got a new brother dog who is spoiled rotton)

Favorite Toy:
Bongo is strictly a tennis ball dog-man.

Favorite Food:
Dry dog food, any people food we give him (what dog's DON'T!)

Favorite Walk:
Around the neighborhood, Tribble Mill park

Best Tricks:
Catching things (food, his ball, etc.) Always been a great catcher (just like his mommy, Goober, who we miss dearly!)

Arrival Story:
We got our first puppy, Goober way back in 1988. Six years later, Goober was pregnant...a dog jumped the fence! She had 6 puppies, and all were blonde, like Goobie, except for one little black one. We of course had to keep the only black one! And that's where we got Bongo. Goober died a few years ago at the age of 16, and we miss her a lot, but still have out ol' Bongo to carry on the legacy!

Bio:
Bongo is my oldest dog now (if you look at his photos he is a bit greyer in some!), and he is in the BEST of shape for his old age-- still walks the 3 mile track at the park with us from time to time and will play ball like a pup. His mom, Goober lived to 16 and we are hoping for the same + for our man, Bongmeister! SAD UPDATE :( We tragically lost Bongo about a year ago, and although it was by a freak accident of sorts, let this be a warning to all dog owners! The story... One night we left the house to go to a neighbor's house for a party--just right up the street and were there for several hours, having fun. We finally made the short walk home and were sitting around in the living room chatting, and could see Bongo thru the paned glass door to the screen porch, where he appeared to be sleeping. My fiance then stepped out onto the porch to have a cigarette upon which Bongo did not stir...strange not only b/c he didn't wake up to the noise but also because Bongo was always quite weary around everyone except my immediate family members... I remember my fiance saying, "Man, Bongo is REALLY out!" (thinking he was sleeping). I suddenly began to panic, & remember saying, "Dad, go out there quick, I think something's wrong with Bongo!!" I then for the first time in my life saw my dad show his own sort of panicked reaction, and remember him shaking Bongo saying, "Come on, Bongo, wake up! Wake up!!" (heart-breaking) We were all in a sort of panic by then, still trying to figure out exactly what was happening. Turns out--and here's the awful part: Bongo had always worn one of those chain choke collars, even though he didn't need to at all--it was just part of his "outfit", if you will. Well, it turns out it was his unnecessary choke collar that "did him in", so to speak. He must've been laying on the deck floor and the ring of his choke collar chain somehow got stuck between the cracks of the wood. We're really not sure what exactly happened--whether he suffocated himself to death from trying to get loose (my dad swears there was some leeway on the chain, although I'm not sure if he's just trying to protect me from the sad truth...nor to I really care to know), or if his 16-year-old heart may have just given out during his panic. So, as you can probably imagine, the fun night we were having went to pot by then... There really is nothing worse than an unexpected death. I have no doubt that Mr. Bongo would still be alive today if it wasn't for that darn choke collar. So let that be a warning to all: IF YOUR DOG MUST WEAR A CHOKE COLLAR, BE SURE TO TAKE IT OFF WHENEVER YOU ARE NOT AROUND!!!!!!!! Rest in Peace Bongo, you were the best dog-man a girl could ever wish for. :(
