Arrival Story:
Found as a stray in Southern Minnesota, she was less than 8 months old and pregnant. She was rescued from a pound, spayed, and kept in a foster home at a dog rescue for several weeks until we adopted her (after losing our previous dog who had been with us for 16 years). Ella had obviously not been an inside dog, had never walked on a leash, or had any kind of training. She had no idea what dog treats were, hadn't been handled or brushed before, and was mystified by stairs and slippery tile flooring. At first she seemed very uncomfortable inside, jumped our fence several times (until we husky-proofed it) and seemed aloof and scared of us. Thanks to our kind neighbors, (One, a retired man who drove after her in his truck when he saw her jump our fence and lured her into his vehicle with a warm hamburger and then brought her back to us!), lots of treats, and lots of handling, training and exercise, Ella has turned into a wonderful once-in-a-lifetime kind of dog. She is friendly to everyone (as long as you aren't a squirrel), a quick learner, and very playful. Not a watchdog, she doesn't bark but "woos" along with us when invited.
