ADOPT 09 CONTEST
I got a call from a friend asking me if I would take in a badly abused male Dachshund. I asked her where he was. I was on my way out the door before I hung up the phone. I already had my Dutchess, Princess and Scooter. But after hearing how badly he was abused I went to pick him up. He was terrified and coward down. He sat in the seat next to me and he just looked at me and shook all the way home. The first thing I did was I took him to the Vet for a complete check up. He was so thin that he had used up his fat and was working on his muscles. He had a nasty bump on his chest. The Vet x-rayed him and came out with tears in her eyes. She asked me to come look at the x-ray. She showed me where the bump was. I was speechless. There you could see where his chest bone had been broken and was never tended to. The Vet said someone had kicked him so hard they broke his chest bone and never had the compassion to take him in. She said "This baby had to be in such pain with this. How could anyone do this to a beautiful baby?" I got the medicine and special food that he needed to start the healing process and headed home with my new founded friend who literally captured my heart. The girls took to him right away and nurtured him. He was terrified of all of us for a long time. No trust what so ever. But in time her came around and he was such a love. He finally realized he was loved and for the first time he returned the love. This is why I called him my Snuggle Bunny. He was a total lush. Needless to say, he became a member of our family.
Bio:
Our little guy Tucker got the spine desease that a lot of Dachshunds get. His body was long and with the care he had for the first three and a half years it contributed to causing his back to go. The first time he went down I rushed him to the Vet. With a lot of care he came out of it and walked again. The Vet said he wasn't cured and to watch him and not let him jump. I told her "Ya right" But I did the best I could. He started walking funny one day and by the end of the day he was having trouble staying up on his hind legs. I took him back and the Vet x-rayed him and said his back would not come around again. He was paralized. She gave him some meds and three days later he ouldn't go potty. I put him in a play pen to keep him off the floor and I picked him up to take him out to potty and he screamed. He reached up and grabbed me by the neck and he bit. He would have never done that if he hadn't been in such pain. I knew then what I had to do. I took him to the Vet and while I held him close and talked to him, he looked right into my eyes as the Vet gave him the shot. I cried as I felt his body slowly relax and he was gone. That little man grabbed at my heart strings and led me around with his little paws. He had been so badly abused and never loved for the first three and a half years, but he had the most loving life to the end. I only got to have this little guy for one and a half years but what an impact he had on my heart. He even got to have a family. He loved his kids and played with them. He and My Scooter were sole mates. I miss that little guy with all my heart.
