Arrival Story: I adopted Dixon from a greyhound rescue group. Dixon came from the Tucson racing track, which has a pretty bad reputation for neglecting their dogs. When he was two, he was adopted to his first family. A year later, his family divorced, lost their job, moved out of state, and ended up here. In the timespan of one month, Dixon was in five homes - his first family, his family's new home in this state, a friend's home, the rescue agency's home, and finally my home.
Through all this upheaval and trauma, Dixon remained a wonderful, happy dog. He was pretty needy when he first came here, but that's totally understandable. He's a bit better now, but he's very attached to me and follows me from room to room. When I leave, he barks and cries. It breaks my heart.
Dixon is doing great with our little dogs and my kids. He tries to play with the little dogs, but he just scares them, and they run and hide. He's very patient with my kids, but they're great with him. I'm very strict on how they handle him and he's not left unattended with them or any other child.
Dixon's been with us for about a month now, and his personality is really starting to shine. He loves his stuffy toys, especially the squeaky ones. When we get up in the morning, he has to toss one about before he's ready to go outside and potty. Then, when I come home from being gone, he tosses the stuffy again, and then he repeats this behavior when DH gets home. I can tell he's really happy if he's tossing a stuffy!
DH loves to give our dogs nicknames, and his names for Dixon are Skeletor and The Thing. Both of these come from movies. The funny thing is, Dixon is now actually answering DH when he calls him Thing. DH says Dixon is weird, but I think it's the other way around!
