Arrival Story:
** UPDATE 11/24/07: Archie 's forever family officially adopted him today! He was so excited to see them again and it was like he knew he was going home. Congrats, Arch! ** We're fostering handsome Archie for Catahoula Rescue Inc. He first arrived at a rural Illinois shelter in January 2007. Archie was safe in foster care for about four months, but his foster dad got married and moved to Kenya, so poor Arch spent two months in boarding. He has handled all of the changes quite well and is doing great in our household. If you'd like to apply to adopt Archie, please go to www.catahoularescue.com.

Bio:
We call Archie "Mr. Wiggles" because he often wags his tail so hard his whole rear end wiggles. He loves to wrestle with our 10-year-old Catahoula, Desoto, and chase our youngest Dalmatian, Jolie. When it's warm out, he jumps into the kiddie wading pool to dig in the water or chomp at it. He can be so goofy! Our cats didn't like him at first, but now he respects them as members of the pack. Archie quickly learned our household rules, but he does try to push sometimes and we have to remind him that he can't always get what he wants, when he wants it! So, he needs an experienced home where he can continue to get lots of physical and mental exercise. Through clicker training, he learned sit, down and shake very quickly and is eager to learn more. It'll be very hard to let go of this sweet, smart boy.

Singin' In the Rain

I have been such a happy boy all week! First, I met a very nice family who liked me and I liked them back. So now they're going to officially adopt me this Saturday. Woo-woo! (That's the sound I make when I'm excited.)

Since this is my last week with my foster parents, they've been doing little special things for me. The other night, I got to sleep in the bed with them. I was a good boy and just curled up between them. One of my foster siblings is very selfish and stretches out lengthwise, causing Foster Mom and Foster Dad to almost fall off the sides of the bed! I would never be so inconsiderate. :)

This afternoon, Foster Mom took me and my foster sib, Darby, to the 10-acre dog park. It was raining steadily the whole time, but Foster Mom likes to go to the dog park in nasty weather because then we have it all to ourselves. Darby and I had a blast chasing each other, wrestling and sniffing everything. There are paths to follow but Darby and I preferred to take shortcuts in the tall grass. Foster Mom was soaking wet, but she didn't care. She just enjoyed seeing us run as fast as we could and stretch our legs.

My new mama said there is a forest preserve near their house. I can't wait for us to go explore and take long walks together. Only two more days till my Adoption Day!!!

Howls,
Archie

I Saw A Coyote!

Foster Mom took me and Shelby on a walk in the forest preserve this past Sunday and we saw a real live coyote! I started baying really loud. Then Shelby and I tried to pull Foster Mom toward him so we could check him out. We're really strong, but Foster Mom literally dug in her heels and prevented us from going any further until the coyote ran into the brush and disappeared. Later during our walk, we saw a little chipmunk that Shelby wanted to pounce on. Foster Mom wouldn't let her do that, either. She's a real party pooper sometimes! Anyway, I just wanted to share that cool coyote experience. Maybe I'll see one again soon!

Howls,
Archie

Foster Mom took me to Caribou Coffee so I could meet new people and practice paying attention to her in a different environment. We sat on the outside patio and there was lots of car and pedestrian traffic. It was harder for me to pay attention than I thought it would be! Each person that went by did a doubletake at my unique markings and striking blue eyes. I so badly wanted to go meet them, but Foster Mom says I need to learn a little impulse control. To paraphrase the Stones, she says I can't always get what I want. Sigh ... so I worked really hard and learned that if I made eye contact with Foster Mom or sat or layed down, that I would get a treat. I liked that a lot because I am obsessed with food! I also enjoyed spending some alone time with Foster Mom. I have four foster dog siblings, so it's unusual for me to have her all to myself. I hope we get to go again soon!

Wags.
Archie
