Quick Bio:
-purebred-dog rescue

Birthday:
February 14th 2004

Likes:
Balls and swimming. Or better yet: swimming after balls.

Pet-Peeves:
Being brushed. Puppies.

Favorite Toy:
Plush teddy-bear. It speaks if you sqeeze its paw. She has been gently playing with it for over 2 years now. I can't believe it is still alive (Stuffies have a very short life span in our houshold). She even knows it by name.

Favorite Food:
Cheese

Favorite Walk:
Hiking by the ocean (Ft. Funston) at 7 AM

Best Tricks:
Play dead. She also does very cute thing after "time out". As she is being released from time out, and before she darts off to play further, she jumps up and plants a big wet one on your face.

Arrival Story:
I adopted Sheba a bit over 4 years ago....well...I was so not planning to adopt her. I was just supposed to bring her across the state for one of the local rescue groups. But 8 hours in the car made us realize that this was meant to be :) I tried to fight the spell off for a few days, but it didn't work. So, my life was turned upside down. Within 3 weeks I was able to move out of my parents, find a place that allows dogs and fits my paycheck, accommodate the dog, realize that dog has some behavioral issues, hire a behaviorist, almost break up with my boyfriend because of the dog, etc, etc. It was insane, but we had each other!

Bio:
4 years later - and life couldn't be better. My boyfriend is now my husband, I have developed quite a passion for behavioral training, and my little rescue girl is a shining star. My mom calls her "Ph.D." :) So far Sheba achieved CGC certification and passed ATT with flying colors. She is currently training in Competition Obedience, Flyball and Dock Diving. She literally has a desire to do it all. Must be a pit bull thing :))

Well, not that anyone follows this diary, but I guess more for myself (since I am still getting over this past weekend excitement, and just need to pour it out on the page at least).

But Sheba has just earned her third title in Splash dogs, and has a new personal best of 18'11". She flies!

My little bully went from 7 feet jumps to almost 19 in two years.

Sure, there are dogs who come out and launch themselves across the pool on the first try.... but watching my little girl growing, conquering foot by foot, getting over her insecurities, and learning to have a blast - PRICELESS! To say that I am extremely proud of her is still an understatement. Not sure I can truly find words to describe the feeling, but trust me, it is an awesome, awesome one.

Here she is, two weeks ago, during the Monterey Fair event

Sheba took 3rd place in Splash category in the first wave and 4th place in Splash category in second wave. :))))))))

But most importantly we had so much fun!

What set us back is her slowing down at the very edge. The dock was pretty high - 2 feet. She is not used to that and not as confident yet. So, she would slow down to "watch her step". But hey, not to chabby for the fist time, eh?

Next local torunament would probably happen in January. We should be ready to ace junior category by then at least.

So, here are some pictures:

Getting ready

Jumping!!!

Break between waves

Second jump

She seems quite pleased with herself here...

I must admit, I am hooked on sport, and looking forward to more training, advancing, and showing everyone what pit bulls are really made of ;)

Wish us luck!

Sheba has sold her soul for the ball long time ago. So, I try to involve her into various ball/fetch oriented activities. Our newest one is Dock Diving. Oh what fun!!! I don't think I have ever seen my dog beaming with happiness as much as during water leaps after the ball.

So, we have registered for the Splash Dogs event this weekend. This will be her first tournament, and I am very nervous. So, wish us luck! Or to break a leg! Whichever works best in this scenario...

One thing about Sheba, is that no matter how much doubts I would have about her, she ALWAYS proves me wrong. And that is a comforting thing to think about :)
