6wks since surgery

Romeo is now back to walking with his 5 Sisters and me again, and he can now climb the stairs to sleep in Mom's bedroom with his Sisters again also. He is doing very well except for chewing his feet until they bleed. Dr. Fenwick says it is a physcological , not physical problem and put Romeo on Elavil a few weeks ago. Unfortunately the medication is not working and the Dr. said the next thing will have to be Prosac. I hate to have to give Romeo medications like this , but if it helps him I have no other choice since nothing else has helped.

Romeo's update

It is now 4 weeks since Romeo's surgery to repair his ACL. Through the infection and keeping him confined ( which isn't easy) He is doing very well. His infection has cleared up completely and he is feeling very good by the way he is trying to play with his toys and his baby Sister Roxie. I haven't seen him this happy in quit awhile. We are keeping him crated when we are not home , and gated off from the upstairs when he is loose in the house. The problem now is he has that donut inner tube looking collar on when he is loose in the house, (because he can fit through the dog door with it), but Roxie keeps ripping the velcro strip open and taking his collar off. bol Ya gotta love em!
I want to THANK EVERYONE who helped with donations and moral support through Romeo's surgery. With out you I don't know when he would have had his surgery.
Romeo and I send you big hugs & kisses and our love and gratitude for being their for us.

Sincerely,
Debbie Romeo's Mom

Hi Pals We apologies for not being around much lately. Mom has been very busy working and caring for her grandson visiting for the summer and most of all taking care of me. My Mom REALLY loves me so much and is trying to get me well , but I keep having problems Mom took me this past Friday to Dr. Fenwick , he was suppose to take my staples out......but....I had an infection in my incision and had to go on very strong antibiotics and Mom has to irragate my wound 4x a day. It is looking much better, but 2 staples pulled apart from the swelling and I have a opening right to my muscle. I guess the Dr. will have to restaple it when I go back this Friday.......hopefully. Mom can't figure out how I got the infection since she keeps me in my crate except to go potty and eat my dinner.
She thinks maybe one of my Sisters went in my crate when I was outside and laid down in it and got dirt from the dog park on my bedding. Mom cleans my bedding every day now and locks my crate when we go outside. Mom says if I didn't have bad luck I wouldn't have any luck....I wonder what that means
Well just wanted to let all my wonderful Pals know how I'm doing and to tell you all " We Love You! "

It is almost 2 weeks from Romeo's surgery and he is doing very well. He only goes out by leash to potty and usually stays in his crate resting except when I gate off one of my rooms and allow him to stay with me in the room. He will be going Friday to Dr. Fenwick to have his staples removed and hopefully will not have to be crated or wear the e-collar anymore.
I want to send our Love & Appreciation to ALL the Pup Pals who helped & supported Romeo's surgery and recovery, YOU ARE OUR ANGELS!

Love,
Debbie Romeo's Mom

It's been 5 days since Romeo's surgery and he is doing well. His leg had swelling which we were concerned and brought him back to the Vet on Monday for Dr. Fenwick to look at. Dr. Fenwick said it's not anything to worry about ,which took a load off my mind . Romeo is feeling much better because he is getting harder to hold back every day. It's like trying to contain a Bull! I feel bad at night when we go up to bed and he cries to come up also, but he won't be able to climb the stairs for weeks . He doesn't want his Mom out of his site. His Sister Harley sleeps by his crate at night to keep him company. Every day he gets stronger and stronger, before we know it his surgery will be far in the past.

I want to send out a very heartfelt THANK YOU to all of our wonderful Pup Pals that made it possible for Romeo to have his surgery. Your wonderfully kind humans who share a special love for dogs . If ever you need our support please paw mail .

We Love You All!

We just brought Romeo home and everything went well. Usually they would keep him over night but they know how Romeo is about being home, so they felt he would be more comfortable in his own bed. He is lying in his bed right now. They gave him a shot for pain but my poor little boy is whimpering I wish he could tell me how he feels. When we picked Romeo up the receptionist told me there were 2 more donations made today and I just started to cry It is so overwelming the support & love we are getting from people who have never even met us . I can not find the words to express how this makes me feel....Just know I will be here for any of you should you EVER need my help. God Bless You ALL ....You are very Special Pals!

Love,
Romeo's Mom Debbie

PS Romeo has to go back in 14 days to remove his staples will let you know what the Vet says.

ROMEO'S STORY

Please help us get Romeo the surgery he deserves! Every little bit helps! Here is Romeo's story....

Two years ago this coming Aug. I was on my way to pick up Rocky a Great Dane I take to the dog park . When I got to Rocky's house his owner took me to her back yard to see this pitbull she had just found. He looked so pitiful....nothing but skin and bones and the sadest eyes I had ever seen in my whole life. She wanted me to take him, but I said I already had 5 dogs. Than she told me she knew his owner who abused him and that he had ran away 2 weeks ago from the guy. He had stayed near by in the woods but would not go back to his home just down the street. Romeo was only 10 months old when this happened. The next day when I went to pick up Rocky his owner said that Romeo's owner had come by and told her he would come and get Romeo in a couple a weeks and give her $20 for feeding him. Hearing that I took Romeo home with me and told her to tell him he ran away again. I took him right away to a vet. I had to spend my electric bill money to pay the vet, but Romeo was more important. Romeo was scared to death of everything and everyone, but he would let me crawl into his crate and dress his wounds. I spent everyday using what I learned from Ceasar Millan's books and shows to rehabilitate Romeo. My dogs helped a great deal and we had a special bond between us. Romeo became so attached to me he had seperation anxiety. That's when I had started him in a doggie day care just 2x a week for 4hrs. a day. One day last summer a worker at the day care left 2 gates and a door open and Romeo escaped into the street. We searched for him sunrise to sunset for 4 days when we got a call someone had found him. The most amazing thing was that the daycare was 2 miles away with a 6 lane highway dividing it from my side of town and Romeo was found less than a mile from home! HE WAS COMING HOME. That touched me so to know how he loved his home and was going to find it! The thing Romeo loves to do more than anything is to play ball, you see he never learned how to play with other dogs well. He nips too hard so they don't want to play , so playing ball is his only play. One day when he was playing ball with me , he stopped short and fell, when he got up he was limping. I thought maybe he pulled a muscle so I had him take an easy for a few days, but when he kept limping I took him to the Vet and found he had torn the ligaments in his knee and needed surgery. My heart just sank.....this poor boy had been through such a tough first two yrs. of his life and now this. I knew I was taking a lot on with 5 dogs already but I just had to rescue Romeo from the life of abuse he had before and I promised him that would never happen again as long as I'm alive. My husband is on disability and my income as a pet sitter is not enough for us to pay our bills and afford Romeo's surgery. We have no credit cards to even charge his surgery due to the one year we had to wait for my husbands disability to go through. I hope Romeo's story let's you know him and I better.

Thank You All and God Bless,
Romeo's Mom Debbie

Romeo needs surgery

Romeo started limping about 2wks. ago . I thought maybe he pulled a muscle and kept him from too much activity to give it some time to heal. It didn't seem to help, so I brought him to see the Orthopedic Vet. After xrays Dr.Thacher said Romeo needs surgery for a torn ligament. I think he called it A C L.

Romeo's Escape

This past summer I had put Romeo in a Doggie Day care a couple of times a week for a few hours a day to get him use to being away from me , to help with his seperation anxiety. I also would bring his Sister Aphrodite with him so he wouldn't feel alone. One day one of the workers at the Doggie Daycare left TWO doors open and Romeo escaped into the parking lot and than into the nearby woods. When they called me we ran over right away and searched all night with no luck. My Heart was broken and I was so worried he would get hit by a car, since the Day care was near a 6 lane highway, or picked up by some one and used to fight. I had promised Romeo no one would ever hurt him again!, and now it was out of my control and I was devastated. Every morning at sunrise 10 of my wonderful friends and I would search the area around the day care until sunset with no luck. We had put over 400 flyers up with Romeo's picture and a $500 reward. We had also called every Animal Rescue in the area and on the fourth day of Romeo missing we physically went to look at every shelter for him with no luck. My heart was aching so and I felt so helpless and didn't know if I would ever see my boy again, when I got a call that a girl had found Romeo in her laundry room at her apartment complex. We ran over right away and there he was . He looked like a deer caught in the headlights of a car until he realized it was his Mommy 's arms around his neck. We took him right away to the Animal Hospital where they checked him out and found no trauma to his body other than having some abrasions and over two hundred ticks on him. He was so very happy to be home and his brother and sisters gave him a very welcome home greeting. The part that really brings tears to my eyes and touches my heart is Romeo was found 1 mile from our home, he was making his way home and by the grace of God and all of the prayers he had crossed that 6 lane highway without getting hit by a car! You see the day care center was over two miles away from us on the other side of this major highway. Romeo showed us how much he LOVES his home and family, and we are so blessed to have him home again! He will Never go to a Doggie Day care again!!!!
