Arrival Story:
I found dear little Paddles on Petfinder last fall. He had been rescued from a puppy mill in western PA by Twin Tiers Rescue in central PA. His wonderful foster mom worked with him for two months or so, refining his personal habits and social skills. It was love at first sight - The photo of him with the blue bandana is the one I first saw on Petfinder!! What a sweety! The adoption process was very thorough and went very smoothly. I picked him up right before Thanksgiving so he'd have 5 days to get acquainted before getting used to my work schedule. He had no problem adjusting !!
As you can see he's not your typical little Pom - he doesn't have the long fluffy coat - his body feels like suede and there is fur on his head, fur "boots" on all four legs and a little poof of fur on his tail - needless to say he has quite the wardrobe: coats, sweaters, hoodies, t-shirts, golf shirts, tank tops, and of course a raincoat (Old Navy is his favorite place to shop - their clothes fit the best and they have good sales! )
Bio:
This dear little boy was just a number when he was born, destined to be sold to some pet store and sit in a display cage, waiting and hoping that some nice person would buy him. This was not to be the case, however - Paddles had very little fur so he was "not good enough" for a pet store. Therefore he was "released", probably at auction, by the miller that bred him. Thank goodness his foster mom rescued him from a worse fate - sometimes these releases are purchased for scientific research - Imagine!!! Like Spinner who runs in circles when she's excited, Paddy (the only "Paddles" on Dogster!) received his cute name because of the "swimming" motions he made every time he was picked up. Now he no longer struggles to get away- he loves to be picked up and hugged!! Paddy has made remarkable progress in the last 10 months, going from the reserved little boy that he was in November to the fiesty, barky little guy who greets me every day after work, twirling around and barking as fast as he can - at the same time dodging Daisy's enthusiastic leaps! He's now sporting a cute little Mohawk "furdo" between his ears! The fur has chosen to grow back on the top of his head and up all four legs. Padd's body still feels like suede but there are one or 2 hairs about 2 inches long in the middle of his back! The fur that he does have is getting much darker - he's supposed to be a "tan & chocolate merle" Pom - I think he's more of a "party" Pom since he has patches of white as well! I can only imagine what grooming him will be like if he becomes fully coated... he will only tolerate getting his nails clipped if I hold him and the LADY vet does the clipping. He's still very fearful of men - probably a result of very bad experiences when he was still at the "puppy mill"! Thank goodness for his foster mom & her rescue group!
