Arrival Story:
One of the amazing dog rescuers I've met on the GermanShepherds.com chat board had taken Gaia in from a pound where she was about to be put down. She had been there several weeks after being taken from a severe neglect situation and was about to be PTS as she hadn't been adopted. This wonderful lady took her in to foster until she could find a good home for her and posted her picture on the board ... something about Gaia's sad yet beautiful face jumped out of the screen at me and I e-mailed her foster-mom ASAP! I had all sorts of questions about Gaia and if we would be right for her, and I wanted her foster-mom to know the kind of home we could provide for her. I also e-mailed my husband at work her picture, it was those eyebrows he said, even though he was hesitant about a second dog, he couldn't say no to her! Heaven and earth were moved and we were SO lucky to get in on a transport from where Gaia was all the way down in Georgia, up to Conneticut. We only drove the 10 hours in one day to meet up with her transporters - amazing folk who's round trip trek to adopt another dog, and transport THREE MORE for other families was at least five times longer than ours! Gaia was just as sweet as we had been told, but oh so sad when she thought she was being taken away from children and all the dogs there ... but as soon as we got back home at 11 o'clock that night and she saw Oskar and my ten year old son for the first time she perked right up, and has been the happiest girl ever since! (And if you're wondering how Oskar accepted her ... we were lucky - it was love at first sight! See the pic of them together on poofs? That was taken the day after she came home to us!)

Bio:
Gaia is a true testament to the amazing qualities of a rescued dog; resilience, sweetness and trust that you would think would have been lost. She is friendly to all comers and has grown to be a gorgeous gorgeous dog that has been adored even by people who are shy of GSD's! When she finishes growing out of her exuberant puppy-stage I would like to do visiting therapy dog work with her as her sweet nature makes all that meet her smile!
