Arrival Story:
We decided it was time to add a dog to our family, and as I was the one to be bringing the pup to work, I got final say on breed. I looked high and low for a GSD pup from good lines, found some but couldn't afford them ... then one day I saw the ad in the paper for two 4 month old long coat GSD male pups, just what I had wanted! We drove 1/2 way up mountain on a dirt road to this man's property (never saw his home it was further up), then the man came down the hill with the parents and the pups - WOW! And the cutest pup ever in his arms, that was Oskar ... he had run from everyone else the man said so he was carrying him this time. He also told us that Oskar's lineage was German & American Search & Rescue GSD's bred by his family's kennels ... as we have no papers I cannot confirm that, but he has shown that amazing working dog intelligence often! Oskar decided that I was his new mommy after I pulled his bigger brother off of him again & again, and his mother showed her approval by kissing my cheek ... Oskar made the choice and it seemed that he never looked back, we have been like glue to each other since! Oskar adores my children and loves hiking with my husband and is a happy, handsome and intelligent dog that knows just when to bark and just when to wag!

Bio:
After joining the GermanShepherds.com chat board and learning more about this beautiful and loyal breed and seeing how many perfectly wonderful dogs need good homes (many wonderful people on that board do great work in rescue!) we've decided that any new dogs to our "pack" will be adopted! Since then we have added Gaia, a lovely gal who has her own page, too! Gaia and Oskar took an agility class this past Spring and although Gaia did well, Oskar excelled!!! He was the only one in class that could work off lead and seemed to know intuitively what each new command meant! It's incredible to watch him work and think, he evaluates what he needs to do several steps ahead (man, I wish my 11 y.o. son would do that!) and his intelligence combined with his absolute physical grace get us stopped for compliments wherever we go!
