I started Heartworm treatment on Monday, Jan 14th. My FM says I am doing very good, but I can't play or be active at all for a whole month. = ( I am sore from the shots that the vet gave me, but my FM says I will feel better soon. It will be hard to stay calm for a whole month, but FM says that it is very important for me to stay calm for a month so my body has a chance to get rid of the dead worms in my heart and they don't break loose and cause a blockage. So it will be hard (I really like to play with my FM and Blaze), but I will do my best to stay calm and my FM says she will help me stay calm and quiet. = )

My first vet visit

About two days after my FM got me from the shelter, I had some discharge coming from my nose and was shaking my head alot. My FM got me in to the vet and got me all checked out. I had a upper respiratory infection, ear mites, fleas, ringworm (that's what caused the bald spots), and heartworms. I have been on antibiotics for the URI, and am doing MUCH better now (my nose cleared up). I have also been getting weekly anti fungle baths and daily anti fungle cream, weekly dips (to kill the fleas, and to kill any mange), and ear drops )to kill the ear mites). I am now feeling ALOT better, but my FM says I still have at least another week of treatment. Then when I am through with this, I'll need to go through treatment for the heartworms.

How I ended up in Rescue

I had lived outside all of my life, until one day my former owners called the local kill shelter to have them pick me up. I don't know what I did to make them angry with me, but a man that worked at the shelter came and took me to the shelter. I had been at the shelter for about a week when my foster mom found me. I was terrified and filthy from being in the shelter, I also had bald spots on my face and legs. My foster mom says she came there that day because she heard that the shelter had gotten a Collie (she rescues all breeds, but has a soft spot for Collies). She saw how scared I was, and that I would need medical treatment for the bald spots and decided that I probably wouldn't be adopted if she didn't take me. So she brought me home that day. I was still very nervous, being in a new place and with new people. She got me cleaned up, gave me food, and let me relax. Over the next few days I started warming up to her, now I can't wait until she comes to get me out, feed me, and play with me. = ) My FM says I will be even happier once I find my forever home!!
