Arrival Story: Laddie is a strikingly beautiful dog and a gentle, sweet soul - deserving of so much more than the life he has known thus far. In the fall of 2007, the Greenville Animal Shelter received a call from Laddie's owners. They didn't want him any more and requested that animal control come to their home and pick him up. When the officer arrived, he found a pitiful sight. Laddie's handsome face was nearly bald from ringworm. He had a nasty upper respiratory infection. He was infested with fleas and had ear mites. The icing on the cake was that Laddie had heartworm disease - potentially deadly, but easily preventable, if owners simply give heartworm preventative. Well, not only was Laddie not given heartworm preventative, he wasn't given much of anything, really. We're not sure why these people ever had a dog to begin with. Clearly, they had no interest in one. Laddie lived every day of his life sitting by himself in a backyard, completely neglected and forgotten. It's a wonder that they managed to feed him. Laddie was transported that day to the shelter, where his chances of being adopted were virtually nil. Little did he know that his life was about to take a huge turn in a positive direction. As the clock was quickly ticking away Laddie's final hours, a Tassie's Hope foster mom spotted him and rescued him. Laddie is currently being cared for in her home, where he has slowly, but surely, been regaining his health over the past several months. Laddie has been receiving long-overdue medical attention. His ringworm infection is completely gone and his fur has grown back. His upper respiratory infection, ear mites and fleas are long gone. Laddie has also successfully completed his heartworm treatment and is now on monthly heartworm prevention. He has been wormed, vaccinated and neutered. Where there was once a dog with absolutely no hope, now there is a dog who is learning that there are kind people in the world. Laddie has discovered that he is loved and that he is precious. We want to find a permanent home for Laddie with people who value him just as much as we do. Laddie deserves to be a member of the family. He deserves to be loved and cherished. Laddie is about 2 to 3 years old and weighs between 35 and 40 lbs. Ideally, we would like to find an adopter for Laddie who has experience with Collies and understands the breed. Our $175 adoption fee helps offset a small part of the medical care that Laddie has received. If Laddie's story has touched your heart and if you would like to give him a loving, forever home, please click on this link to complete our adoption application form today: www.tassieshope.org

I started Heartworm treatment on Monday, Jan 14th. My FM says I am doing very good, but I can't play or be active at all for a whole month. = ( I am sore from the shots that the vet gave me, but my FM says I will feel better soon. It will be hard to stay calm for a whole month, but FM says that it is very important for me to stay calm for a month so my body has a chance to get rid of the dead worms in my heart and they don't break loose and cause a blockage. So it will be hard (I really like to play with my FM and Blaze), but I will do my best to stay calm and my FM says she will help me stay calm and quiet. = )
