Well, it has been almost 6 months since my little sister, Rhyval, arrived and I have kept pretty quiet about all of this - up to now. I have to admit, big sis Abbi and I were in a state of shock the day that our happy household had suddenly changed but after a day or two of watching the little one's antics, our hearts were won over. Little Rhyval was, quite frankly, a little brat the first few weeks and both Abbi & I were shocked to see her temper tantrums with my Auntie.
Obviously, Rhyval didn't know who she was dealing with but Abbi & I both knew that my Auntie was NOT going to allow such bad behavior. That would be going against the rules of our home - respect and good manners are mandatory. Sure enough, in no time at all, Rhyval learned that bad behavior was unacceptable and she was going to have to be a good little girl if she wanted to live in our pack.
Even 'tho I am not the "baby" in our family any more, and I guess I am now the "middle child", I am still very happy Rhyval is with us. When I was very little I did play with Abbi but, I have to admit, it is more fun for me to rough-house with someone my own size. When she gets too rough for me, I simply put one of my paws on her and body-slam her on to the carpet. She ends up under my belly, totally covered by my hair, and in an instant, somehow, she's up and on top of my back!! I hate that!! NO ONE MESSES WITH MY HAIR.
Rhyval is like a little energizer bunny - always a going concern. Long after she has worn me out she is still either racing around the house, trying to get Abbi to play with her, or trotting around the house looking for someone or something to play with. My mom told me I was never like that. (I was a normal puppy) I played a bit then I slept a bit - I was not going, going, going until bedtime! Once Rhyval has tired me out she usually starts her jumping-jack game with poor Abbi. That means constantly jumping up to Abbi's face and trying to grab on to her ears, her mouth, her nose - whatever she can grab a hold of. Sometimes, when I need some quiet time, I will just sit by Mom and watch and marvel at my big sister's patience. My mom has always said Abbi has a kind, gentle heart and would have been a wonderful mother to a litter of pups, and I agree.
Abbi doesn't play with me anymore and my Auntie can't spend as much time with me as she used to since Rhyval arrived, but that's ok. I am still, and will always be, my mom's "little angel" and besides, Abbi and I decided that we both love having Rhyval with us. Since she is still so young we are willing to put up with her crazy playful antics. To help my Auntie, we are also both trying our best to teach her, througth example, to be a polite little girl and it seems to be working. Every week, she matures a little bit more and every week, she also comes up with some new unexpected behavior. So far, it's been a hoot having her in our lives but I can hardly wait for summer so Rhyval and I can spend more time racing around the sun-deck and barking at all the neighborhood dogs.
