Arrival Story:
Jack was a "give away" in our local paper because he still had a tail. He was just beautiful...so home he came to live with us, Karen, Charlie, Lainie and Daisy...Laine and Daisy were Rotties too...mother and daughter, after a couple of years Lainie and Daisy both passed away and Jack was alone, with only the two legs for company...this couldn't continue as the two legs went away 5 days a week and Jack was lonely...the female two leg took Jack for a ride in the car one day...and when the car stopped he met a lot of little Rottweilers...after some time had passed Jack found one of the little Rottweilers to be very nice and the female two legs managed to get the little girl into her car, and so a wonderful friendship was born...Jack now had a friend...we call her Lolly...and she is just the sweetest girl. Jack and Lolly have had many adventures in the Aussie bush...but thats for later....

Jack's Recovery

On Christmas Eve Jack was bitten by a black snake, we didn't know this at the time but we did know he wasn't very well. After talking to the vet on Christmas night we decided Jack needed to be taken in to the hospital. Getting 65 kg of limp rottweiler into the back of my car was not easy but with the help of a blanket as a stretcher we managed it. The short story is that after having blood taken on boxing day morning we got a phone call from the vet later that afternoon to tell us to bring Jack straight back as his bloods indicated a bite from a black snake.

Jacks right front leg had started to swell and he wouldn't take any weight on it so again we lifted him in a blanket and got him up to the hospital. Poor Jack spent 5 days in the Vet hospital on a drip getting all sorts of drugs and antivenin pumped into him. I can't thank the staff at the Vet hospital enough for the way they looked after Jack. He was even allowed to sit out in the reception area in the afternoons so he would have company.

He's home now and after a few very worrying days I finally feel he is on the mend. He still won't take a lot of weight on his leg but his face and attitude are back to normal.

If there is anyone out there who has had a similar experience I would love to hear how long your dog's recovery was. I am concerned he is still favouring his leg so much.
