Arrival Story:
Cal was had the dubious fortune of being picked up as a stray in rural Lake County, California. On June 4, 2007 he was taken to the shelter to be held for 5 days (in case he had owners who were looking for him). A wonderful volunteer at the shelter posted him on craigslist, where I saw him in mid-June. I fell in love with his ears and kept an eye on his post. A few days later, the volunteer re-posted and noted that Cal's time was up. I arranged for a rescue group to pick him up on Friday June 22. The rescue group got a call on Wednesday, June 20 to inform them that, after 11 days as an adoptable dog, Cal was out of time in the next few hours. If he didn't leave that night, he wouldn't leave alive. Fortunately, the rescue group pulled through with an emergency transport and got him out of there on Wednesday. By Friday, June 22, he'd been bathed, neutered, vaccinated, and vet checked. The day I picked up Cal from his fosterer's home was the first time I actually met him. It was apparent that although the shelter described him as a 2 year old, 42 pound full grown dog, he was clearly a very skinny puppy. He behaved through the 45 minute car ride home, and settled in at home easily.Cal has been with me for a few months now, and he is flourishing. He is up to about 55 pounds, and he is the happiest, most friendly dog. He loves nothing more than playing with everyone at the dog park and coming home and falling asleep for hours.

Bio:
Cal lives in Morgan Hill, California with his human parents, Katie and Chip, his three feline brothers and sister: Petey, Max, and Alice, his betta fish brother Gerard, and his leopard gecko sister Donna.
