Arrival Story: We chose each other at the Hayward Animal Shelter. She'd been abused, tied up outside, was fearful and aggressive around other dogs. The name on her cage at the shelter was "DOG." She was 2 years old and no one had even bothered to name her. All the dogs around her cage were barking and jumping, and she was lying quietly at the back of her cage on a little white bed. I took one look at her and thought she was one of the most beautiful dogs I had ever seen. I sat down on the floor outside her cage, and she walked slowly up to me, laid down and leaned against my hand for a really long time. I didn't know then that she was two days away from her "kill date." Our two beautiful dogs Chelsea and Sadie (a golden retriever and lab/dobie mix) had died earlier in the year after over 15 years with us, so saving Shayna was a mitzvah all the way around.

Bio: Shayna definitely needed help becoming the awesome dog she is today. She chased our cat Shpilky viciously when she first came home with us - and now they sleep on the same bed together. Although she was always sweet with all people, she was very aggressive on the leash with other animals, and now runs and plays with other dogs. She had a lot of anxiety, and is now calm, balanced and happy. We thank John Van Olden every day for guiding the transformation-- he's an amazing trainer who worked with us - check him out at johnvanolden.com.
