Arrival Story:
I had been thinking about getting another dog for a while and I was specifically researching Border Collies since they are my favourite breed. I looked around local shelters and I found a Border Collie who was named Nelly by the staff. She was an older girl who was found as a stray and taken in to be put up for adoption. She was such a sweetie and gave me lots of kisses when I went to visit her. There was still a bit to think about and talk about to the family so I kept my eyes on the shelter website, locked on Nelly hoping I'd be able to get her when the time came. Well eventually Nelly was adopted, but not by me. I was too late, but I was happy that Nelly got a home. I continued to look around the humane society a bit then got a suggestion to check out this website. I typed in Border Collie and scrolled through some pages. Most were ads for BC puppies for sale, but I was more focussed on looking for an older puppy or dog. I kept scrolling and came across an ad for a 9 month old, male, Border Collie. I immediently contacted the ad poster and she sent a picture. We emailed back and fourth a bit and set up a date to visit, that weekend. So we drove out to Hollowshot Border Collies where we were greeted by many BCs. When we saw Ozzie, Maxine told us he had been returned at 9 months old because of a divorce and he was now 11 months old. I got attatched to him immediently and we took him home that day.

Wow, we really haven't been on here much, lately. The forums we used to visit most have gotten so slow and empty. Hopefully it'll liven' up a bit, soon, we miss all our friends.

We've been pretty busy over here. Mom's been occupied with school and has a bad cold so we haven't been on much. She went to the Toronto Zoo for her science class Monday and that was really fun. Of course she got loads of pictures. You can see them on her Flickr account, although they're not all uploaded yet(http://www.flickr.com/photos/ozpawz/).

She'll be going to Ottawa next week on Thursday and she won't be home until late Friday night. She's really looking forward to that. She'll be staying in a nice hotel and going to the Parliment buildings and many museums, learning about history and politics and justing hanging out with friends. Of course she'll be getting loads and loads of pictures!

I'm going to the groomer's tomorrow. Mom's dad's friend's daughter is going to groom me. Mom probably won't be there to drop me off or pick me up because she might be going to a friends but she's still kind of nervous. She tried to trim me up a bit a few weeks ago and it didn't go so well, haha. My backside was a little umm...lop-sided, bol! I think it's mostly grown back in but I don't really know, hopefully it is or else mom's going to look really stupid when she finds that mess, bol!

I also turned three years old on September 14th!

August 25, 2009: Dreading the End of Summer

Yep, we sure are dreading the end of summer, summer has gone by so fast, it sure does stink. Especially since when we went to the beach this summer we couldn't go on the regular dog beach, we had to go to the another small beach on another body of water which really wasn't that nice. We couldn't go to the dog beach because some rare birds were nesting there and couldn't be disturbed. Letting dogs around their nesting area wasn't a risk they were willing to take, even if it was fenced off. If a dog really wanted through they could find a way. We'd love to go to the beach again especially considering we even get to spend the night but considering mom got a new camera which was rather expensive I don't see that happening. We were considering meeting Natcho there before summer ended so we'll have to see if we can meet up somewhere else or we'll just have to wait.

I had a blast today on my walk. Mom and I walked to the park then she let me offleash and we played fetch using my Chuckit. While I was running back to mom with my ball she saw another dog staring at me. She called me over and clipped my leash on, then I noticied the dog, too. The other dog was lowering it's head down studying me. Eventually I started doing the same and we approached eachother in a crouch. It took us atleast two-three minutes until we actually got to eachother because we were going so slow, stopping everynow and then to try and catch eachother's scent. Once we finally met up we sniffed eachother and mom and the other dogs owner talked a bit. The other dog was named Dodge and she was gorgeous! Mom guessed she had Australian Shepherd and some other breed(s) in her. A herding breed for sure considering she was doing a herder crouch. Now, usually I don't play with other dogs right away but Dodge and I hit it off and we started running around together playing for a good ten minutes or so, we had lots of fun. Then Dodge continued on her walk and mom and I went back to playing fetch. We saw her again right when we were about to leave.

When I got home mom took me into the backyard and I went over to the pool right away. I sat on the steps and drank some water then mom slowly walked me in so I could cool off my whole body. I turned around and swam back to the stairs then sat on the third step with just my head above the water. Mom sat with me for a bit (taking pictures) then I went slowly eased myself into deeper into the water and went in for a swim all by myself which I usually don't do. Mom was impressed and thought it was cute.

I used to write in my diary regularly but I've been getting pretty lazy about it, lately. We've been keeping kind of busy, I guess. Angel and I both got bathed yesterday, eww. Mom bathed me in the tub inside and of course, took pictures. Angel was bathed outside though because she sheds SO much and it gets EVERYWHERE. She got saved from the embarassment of pictures being taken. We both really needed baths. Usually mom would just send us in some sort of body of water while we're out for a run or something but the water at Harper Road seems to get dirtier and dirtier (from us?!) every time we go so that doesn't really work. Angel stunk so bad and my fur was getting really gross, even though mom brushes me regularly.

We can't believe summer is almost over. Mom is dreading the very end. There have been rumours of school being post-poned until September 30th because of Swine Flu but mom hasn't heard much about it. It'd be nice to be out for an extra month but the thought of Swine Flu is scary, too. I don't want summer to end, either. Mom hasn't been bringing us for hikes/runs offleash as much lately, she's been keeping busy herself but she plans on taking us more places, she regrets not spending as much time with me as she would've liked to. Plus she can't help but stay up, even if she tries to go to sleep she ends up going at atleast 3:30am. It's almost 3:00am here now. Last night she stayed up until a little after 4:00am and woke up at around 2:20pm, which she hated. She wasted the day away while I was enjoying myself playing outside, bol. We'll see how the weather is outside tomorrow and maybe she'll take me somewhere. She set her alarm to get up at 9:00am even considering she'll probably go to bed around 4:00am. She wants to get back into her regular schedule, so far getting up early hasn't seemed to help, though.

Mom took a few new pictures of me today. She's trying not to use all her Flickr space this month and is too lazy to resize, we're almost at our half-point and it's only the 11th, bol, oh well, we'll try to manage. Mom also redid my page! It took a while since everything is 'handmade'. The banner picture is a picture mom took of me, she made the border and tinted the background so it was black/gray instead of blue. We were going for a black and white theme, trying to keep it Border Collie :o)
