Pet-Peeves: Getting her picture taken, when she can't see lady
Favorite Toy: Chewies and pink poodle.
Favorite Food: Applebee's french fries. She shares them with her Man!! She LOVES food, and will gobble up anything you give her!
Favorite Walk: She likes to go around the block, that is about all she can handle!
Arrival Story: Oh, what a story it is!! This is what we know about Dixie. We are pretty sure she was used to produce litter after litter of puppies and then discarded in an animal shelter. A neighbor of mine adopted her, and then realized she could not care for her. I met her to see if she would get along with Richter and Macy, and the first meeting did not go so well. I was communicating with her owner through our mail carrier (who is wonderful!). I said I wanted to try with my dogs again, but before we could, her owner put her back in another shelter, and that was when I had seen enough!! This poor dog looks like she has has been to hell and back, and I wasn't going to let her live like that any longer! Her mouth was a mess, her ears were filthy. She was so dirty and scared, yet oh so sweet!!! So I went and adopted her myself! Richter and Macy went to the shelter on their best behavior, and Dixie came out on her best behavior to show they could get along, and then the adoption was final!
Bio: Dixie has come a long way since we got her 15 months ago! She now has a beautiful coat that she is growing into a cocker cut. Her teeth are all cleaned, and all the infected ones have been removed. She has 5 beds total, two in our room, one in the office, one in the living room, and one in the family room. She has chewies all over the house, and her few select toys that she will carry around! She has been establishing her wardrobe, she now has a bandana drawer like Richter and Macy, and her own coat! She has a pink collar and leash set, and her collar has little glittery stones on it! She has been on her GCM regimen for her arthritis, and that has worked wonders for her! She is as spry as ever! She continues to delight me more every day, and captures the heart of anyone she meets! She truly is a little Angel, and I love her to pieces! Adopting her was one of the best, most rewarding things I have ever done!
Update: We had to let our sweet girl go on January 1st, 2011. She had been battling with her kidneys since October, and when they found that problem they had also alerted us to the fact that there was a good possibility that she had cancer somewhere. Our vet had done a great job of gentley preparing us that we may have to make a difficult decision soon. My husband and I discussed it and we decided that as long as she still had quality of life, then we were gonna hang on to our girl as long as we could. She did alright for a few months, but we could see her condition was starting to deteriorate. She could not hear at all, and she was starting to really struggle with sight. Towards the very end, she did have a few days where she wouldn't get out of her bed. She wasn't eating as much either, and once that started I knew it was only a matter of time. On that dreadful day, she started out ok, and she actually scarfed down her breakfast. Once we had finished our breakfast and were cleaning up, I noticed she was bleeding from her mouth. At first I though she just irritated something, but as I sat down to clean her up I realized that it wasn't slowing down, and when I looked in her mouth, it was full of blood. Then it started seeping out the sides, so we called the ER vet and they said to bring her over. We called my mom to come stay with our 16 month old son, and we took her over. The vet concluded that Dixie had a tumor deep in the back of her throat that had obviously opened. At this point there was nothing else we could do for her, and she was obviously in discomfort, and still bleeding. So we made the heartbreaking decision. Not a day goes by that I don't think about my girl. I miss her so much she was the most loyal dog I have ever known, and the sweetest thing. She brought us so much joy and laughter in our 3 short years together. I wish I had been able to have her her whole life!!! At least I know her final years were filled with comfort and a family that loved her to pieces!! Rest in Peace sweet Dixie girl!
I did an excellent job watchin over my family this week!! They had a monster storm happen earlier this week that caused massive destruction across their whole state and the rest of the states up and down the east coast. On sunday night lady said oh dixie please watch over us, we're gonna need you!! And i surely did a superb job because my family didn't have any damage and they didn't even lose power!! Yup! I am still the best dog ever, even from way up here!!!!
Well I have to report here from the bridge to let everyone know about somethin so cute the little one did!! Lady has this little stuffed doggy that she got for her 1st birthday when she was a little girl. Now since I am in the Heavens and lady can't get to me I will tell you that that means that doggy is 31 years old!! BOL!!
Anyways, it is white (sort of) and has floppy fuzzy ears like a cocker and a stubby little tail (talk about foreshadowing!). It has a tattered red ribbon around it's neck, and a little chime inside it so it makes noise when you move it. Lady had it up in the top of her closet, and one day when she was puttin clothes away the little one spotted it and asked for it. Lady got it down for him and he proceeded to carry it around for a couple days, which is odd considering that he never plays with stuffies, and his woobie or should I say woobies are an array of metal, plastic, and wooden trains from the 3 Thomas the Tank Engine play sets he has.
Well one night man, lady and the little one were hangin out in the livin room, and the little one got the doggie, took it over to man and said "Daddy this is Dixie". Man and lady just looked at each other in surprise, and then lady got all gushy. She is so happy cuz even though the little one was only 16 months old when I went to the bridge, lady has a picture of me in his room and my pawprint. They talk about me all the time, in hopes that he might remember me at least a little. Well, it seems like it is working!!
Well a year has past since I earned my wings. I am livin it up here at the bridge with all my furiends, especially my Ducey. We have the best of times, dining on the finest snackies a dog could want, snoozin on the softest of beds, chewin on the most delectable chewies. I do miss my family though, and I know my lady misses me a whole whole lot still. I took a peek down on them yesterday on my official annifursary, and here is what I have to report!
The little on was all the rage the past few weeks as you can imagine. He is pretty much obsessed with Thomas the Tank Engine, so that is the majority of what his Christmas gifts consisted of. Santa Paws brought him a wooden play table that he can set tracks up on stuff so he loves that. He went to a place called Storybook land on Wednesday, it is an amusement park based on Nursery Rhymes. He went with his cousin Maddie and they both had a blast!! They rode all the rides except one, and that was only cuz they weren't allowed cuz they were too little. They went on a roller coaster, and at first man and lady weren't gonna let Cole on it, cuz they were afraid he would be scared. Well they couldn't have been more wrong, cuz he screamed and laughed, rode it 3 times in a row, and then cried his little head off when they made him get off!!
Then he went to Sesame Place on New Year's Eve, got to see the Sesame parade and fireworks at the end!! The runnin joke now is man and lady cuz they laugh at the fact that their New Year's Eve used to consist of the best places/parties to go to, and now they go to Sesame Place and were in bed before midnight!!
Happy New Year to Everyone!!
