My Grammy is in the hospital:-(

Hey Pups,
I know you all know that
my Grammy lives with us and
has since the day I came home
13yrs ago, so she has been my
buddy and lately sleeping pal.
She is Dad's mom and just had
her 80th birthday last sunday....

But that is when it happend,
she fell (she says her knee gave out)
and she broke her femur bone and
it came out of her skin, so Mom
and Dad had to call 911, terrible
so they put a rod and screws in last
sunday and then on Thursday they closed
it up to make sure no infection.

Well on Friday they tried to get her
out of bed and it didn't go to well,
they acutually wanted to send her home
Mom and Dad are worried cause it's going
to be hard. Well they think something
is wrong with her knee now. So today
she is going to rehab for atleast 2
months. Do you think I will be able
to visit her? Hope so!!

I get very lonely during the day
the neighbors and my Uncle have
been coming down to let me out
through out the day. I keep going
down to her area to look for her:-(

Thanks for listening pals!

OMD...So sorry about Grandma! My mom says sometimes with Osteoporosis, the bone just breaks and it feels like something gave out but it's just the bone collapsing. Ick. Can't believe it was a compound fracture....that's horrible. It's good she's going to rehab! I bet they will let you visit. My great grandma just died last Sat. She was 103! I never got to meet her but my mom went to VA for the funeral. My mom says this April has been a wierd month.

Love,
Sunny

Thank you Riley, Sunny, Abby and Luna...

Sunny, when she first fell and Dad and Uncle ran to her, she yelled right away that she broke her leg, and Dad saw the blood on her pants, but he thought it was he knee cause she has both knees replaced so he just thought it was the skin that had be cut, couldn't see the bone cause it didn't rip through her pants, but we later found out that it was when we got to the hospital. Grammy has lots of health problems, so this is not going to be easy for her.
Sorry to hear about your Grandma too...hugs

OMD! Me & growlmy sure hope that your Grammy will recover well and completely. How scary to have that happen in your house:(

Sending lots of POTP from us, as well as pawyers and hugs.

Maybe if you can be convinced to hush, you will get by the nurses desk to be able to visit your Grammy.
Where growlmy works, she sees a lot of pups coming in to see their furmily members, they are not therapy dogs, just family, so give it a try fur sure, it will really be good fur your Grammy to see you and fur you to be with her, too.
Just make sure you stay quiet and have your leash on...

HUGS!

Thank you MJF...

Mom felt so bad for her, and she gets upset when people are hurt and bleeding that Dad and Uncle had to stay with her, me and Mom were upstairs cause I was going insane to get down there to her.
But once she gets to a rehab and settled in they are going to see if I can come for a visit, cause now it might not happen today, no beds ready

Rehab is the greatest thing! Growlmy used to work in a rehab pawlace befur she came to be married...and peeps got to learn all kinds of things to get stronger and to learn/relearn life skills that most peeps do not even think of until they can't, like walking, etc.
It is hard work for the peep getting/doing rehab, kind of like a job, but well worth the effort and rehab is not considered at all if the docs think there is not any chance of getting better/stronger/independent again.

Kudos to your Grammy and best wishes for a good, strong recovery.

I sure hope you will be able to give her some healing licks, Petey!

HUGS!

Guess what pals, I went to see Grammy twice so far!! Yep she was so happy to see me and I her, I sat in Mom's lap and just licked Grammy's hand the whole time I was there. They say I can come back whenever I want!! YAY!! Yesterday I saw another dog there too.
Grammy is a little sad still, not much therapy they are trying to strenghten her leg so she can put weight on it, Dad did alot of work on Grammy's area this weekend too, he moved her furniture and got rid of alot of stuff and painted too.

Thank you pals for just listening and being there for us!!!

Thank you Monty, I do think that when she did see me she was happy, but I could tell when we leave she gets sad.

Yesterday she went back to the hospital to see the surgeon and have another x-ray of her leg, they said she can NOT put weight on that leg for 7-8 wks cause she had shattered the bone and they needed to fit her for a new brace cause the one she had on was doing more damage...ugh she goes back to the hospital in a week.

Thank you so much Miley!! I get to go up there quite often to see her, and we think she is doing ok.

But yesterday when Dad got home he got a call from the place where she is at and told him that they have to send her home on this Thursday cause the insurance will not pay any more. Dad was furious cause she CAN NOT walk yet, she has 2 more weeks to strengthen the leg and then she will be able to put weight on it. They told her 6 weeks for her leg to heal. So now Dad has to go to the place and fill out paper work to get an extension and then they were talking about her life insurance policies and her social securty, she lives with us cause she has NO money, this is not turning out very well, hopefully Dad will get it all fixed. We don't understand how they could possible sent an 80yr old woman who can't walk home!!!

I am so very very sorry the system is doing this to you... and to Mum.

I saw this also happen in UK when everything folk had worked all their lives for got taken from them when they had been responsible and tried all their lives to pay their way so to speak.

I am hoping you can sort this out....know that even if we cant make it right for you.. we ARE here for you.

Thank you so much Flicka and Mom...

Mom and Dad were saying the same thing last night that you work hard and pay to have insurance your whole life and you when you do need it they fail you in some way or another. And her life insurance policies are a joke too, the one she took out 2yrs ago and it turns out that it's only for 2,000 dollars and she pays almost 400 bucks a month for it, that is criminal to me. How can companies do that to people and sleep at night....ugh!! Thanks for listening and being there!!
