Arrival Story: I had been looking for a Rhodesian Ridgeback after arriving at my new home, in Tanzania. I got a call from someone I worked with asking if I might be interested in a 13 month old Ridgeback. At her current home she was starting to challenge the female alpha and the rest of the pack was jumping her as well. She came to visit for a week to see if our personalities would mesh. She's never left. She moved in with me in January 2007.
Bio: When I got Nana at 13 months she had never been on a leash or had a collar. She took to the collar and leash very nicely. We attended obedience class too. She does have some issues. Due to the pack issues at her previous home, she is protective/aggressive when she sees dogs off lead. We've been working on this and she's getting better. We occasionally get jumped by unowned dogs when walking. The local dogs tend to be very aggressive whether they're on their property or being walked. I've been slowly introducing her to other dogs on a one on one basis. Now on our walks she will look but not bark/lunge unless the other dogs do it first. We've come a long way since January. The big help in all this is she's extremely smart and works for treats and praise, which is great for training.
