Dancing to the Moody Blues
We found Glory threw a Pyrenees rescue. At the time we had 2 newfs and a Pyr male. There were 11 pyrs in rescue, we submitted an application and they check with newf rescue on us and we got approved. Gerik Piggyluv is also an adoptee. Barb in charge of rescue said she had a sweet girl named Cheyanne who had yeast and high volume of allergies, she had been with them 6 mnths., she was not placeable because of health issues, she smelled bad and needed lots of care. As I entered the single wide trailer full of Pyrs this lovely old gal stared into my eyes, it was my LUV. She was matted, thin and looked so scared. She came out of her crate and as I touched her head I knew she was going home with me. I met all 11 pyrs that day but none touch my heart like this precious luv. We drove home listening to the moody blues and cuddling on the front seat of my truck. As the ride went on she nuzzled closer. Her eyes always looking up at me. The introduction was rough, my gang wanted to love her and she wanted only me. I sat on the couch and began to brush out her matts, massage her back and check her out from head to toe. Later we took a walk, I let her lead and she walked to the rose bush up the path. It was filled with yellow roses trimmed in pink. She stopped for a few minutes and smelled these flowers as if they were gold. I picked one and we brought it home. As we returned from the bush she raised her head in all her majesty and hence we called her Glory... for she walked among us in her glory.
Every day at 5 am and 5pm we would walk and my girl would head straight for the rosebush. She'd savor the fragrances and smile at me as if to say arent they beautiful. Glory did well after a few days with her new family, she enjoyed pork skins as treats, rides in the car and her and Gerik my oldest newf were like 2 love birds. They shared a comforter and meals and rides in the car to the fountains. They walked side by side in the ice and snow and rain and sunshine.
In April of 2006 Glory began to limp, we took her to the vet and they said Arthritis, said aspirin for 2 weeks and come back, in 1 week it was worse, we went to another vet and she said muscle damage,we did accupuncture and holistic herbs for pain, the foot swelled 2xs the size, we saw yet another vet and they said cancer, I was devastated, Glory seemed to improve with the new meds by September, we went to another vet for a second opinion, it wasn't cancer but our girls immune system was so compromised from being locked in a cellar by her previous owners that the yeast had taken over her body. Her whole system was breaking down, her heart was week, her thyroid compromised, they said there was nothing to do for her with her age and numerous health issues.
We managed her pain and continued the walks to the rose bush on her 3 legs she went happily. Through all this my luv never whined, complained and always cuddled and smiled. This past April my luv could no longer stand up by her self and the night before she was to cross the rosebridge her good hind leg gave out. That night we bought her roses, I rubbed her with the petals, hand fed her yogurt and gave her peanut butter etc... all the things she couldn't have. She enjoyed these things and still smiled. As we drove to the vet, we stopped at her rose bush, open the truck door and she let out a faint bark, as if to say see ya soon, we took some of her fur and layed it in the bush. My girl crossed peacefully, the distress was gone from her face, she looked puppy like.
About a week later I saw a tiny bird with her fur in his mouth, it stayed on the branch of the rosebush as I stopped my truck and then flew away. The rose bush began to bloom, it had at least 100 blooms on it but they were all white, pure white like my girl, not yellow and pink. They bloomed with such vigor and vitality but were white, no one can explain the reason. just a few weeks ago they began to bloom the palest of pink, again not yellow. Now there are only 2 roses at any given time on the bush and they are at eye level where my girl would smell.
That's why the rosebush we planted is so precious, it is a clipping from the bush that changed so drastically.
Silly as it seems I thinK My Luv is with her roses.
