Friends~

Please copy and paste Blue's information into your diary and then tag some of your friends to do the same. Someone, somewhere knows what happened to Blue. The more eyes and ears that see his face and hear his story, the better chance that we have to get him home where he belongs. We would do it for any of you! That's the power of the paw!

Blue, a black and white Siberian Husky (4 year old male, brown eyes, microchipped) has been missing since May 8, 2007 from Brighton, MI.

What's On Your Dinner Plate? was the question this week @ the Pet Poetry Group's weekly Acrostic Poetry Contest event. Delightful poems once again!!

Best in Show Winner this week has been awarded to Hoagie with this adorable entry

Would you like some ham or perhaps a large steak?
Hash browns, french fries or a potato thats baked?
Apple pie with ice cream or rich marble cake?
Tuna, turkey or fresh trout from the lake?
Stroganoff, salad, whatever you say.
Oatmeal or yogurt, let me make your day.
Nice hot lasagna covered with cheese,
You can have all you want, don't even say please.
Oleo dripping off of your bread,
Unless of course, you want BUTTER instead.
Raviolli ,with sauce oozing off of your plate,
Pasta is yummy and tastes really great.
Lots of good nuts, chips and some dip,
And thick, creamy milkshakes-- for you to sip.
Treats made of chocolate with lots of whipped cream,
Egad! I woke up, it was only a dream.

Congratulations!! All of these foods are on our list of favorite snacks! Yummy to your Tummy in and out of dreams! BoL!!

Place Winners ~ Dogs

First Place ~ Hoagie

Second Place

Whatever the humans are having to eat
Happens to make my meal complete.
Always there’s kibble out in my bowl.
That’s ok but it’s not the food for my soul.
Simply put - I love REAL food the best.
Often I plead a simple request.
Need some of what you have is what I convey.
Yes I beg, I’m not ashamed to say.
Obtaining their food is my ultimate goal.
Undoubtably much better than what’s in my bowl.
Rightfully derserved too, for I am the queen.
Divine eating to me is their daily cuisine.
Insistant I am while yet quite polite,
Nose resting on a knee ever so light.
Next goes the paw to lie on a thigh,
Expertly I generate a pathetic look in my eye.
Really quite easy to manipulate are they.
Poor Puppy face wins them over each day.
Lastly I’m rewarded with goodies galore,
Angus beef, chicken, swiss cheese and lots more.
To pick a favorite would be hard to do.
Except I really love Mom’s homemade meat stew.

Third Place
by Mojotiki

White cake with pink frosting that
Has sprinkles on top ,
All of the meat left in the bottom of the pot.
The pieces of crusts from all of your bread ,
Soaked in butter with that special spread.
Oven baked potatoes , I Love them too , But
Not with the pealing on them , it's to hard to chew.
Yams are o.k. , but I like carrots much better ,
OH ! after I eat all this I hope I can still wear my sweater.
Under my paws is sticky and wet , Whats this
Running out of my mouth ? OH , it's slobber I bet.
Dieing to taste whats in that big bowel ,
I might want to bury it , I better go dig a hole.
Now , Wait a minute , Do I smell something
New ? Is it raw meat or just your old shoe.
Either way it doesn't matter , I'm always
Ready to lick the bowel from the cake batter.
Put my plate on the floor if you please, So I can
Lay down and eat all this with ease.
And don't forget to move the chair ,
This is going to take a lot of room and air.
Every time I eat do all of you have to stare ?

Wonderland for
Hungry pups!
All that food
To fill me up!
Sausage, ham and yummy things!

On Momma's plate there's chicken wings!
"Not for Gizz," my mommy said,

"You'll get real sick! No, don't eat bread!
Or Gizzy's teeth will get the rots, and you'll need
Ugly denstist shots! So this is yours, this healthy plate...
Remember, Gizz must watch his weight."

Pfffffffffffffffffffffffffft!!
Liver stuff with little taste?
A dog shouldn't have to watch his waist!
"To fatter mids!" That's what I say!
"Eat what's on *Momma's* plate today!"

Yahhhhhhhhhhhhhhooooooooooo!

When the humans sit down to eat,
Here I come around their feet.
All I want is just a sniff
To see to safety, if
Spoiled be their veggies or meat.

Oh, you may think I'm greedy...
No, I'm not being super-needy!

You see, I get the best
Of canned feline delights; it's
Unnecessary to steal the rest.
Really, I'm happy with my meaty bits.

Please, please let me see!
Let me know you're eating safely!
All I care about is your health
To add to your life's wealth...
Er, just a little taste, maybe?

Last Week's Acrostic Poetry Winners for
Upon Entering Wipe Your Paws
were

Best in Show Winner
by Quiggley

Up on my little hind legs I do stand,
Presenting small paws to be cleaned by Moms hand.
One by one, front then back,
Never complaining, but leaving no track.
Even if its just water--wet but clean,
No going inside 'til each paws been seen.
Toweling off the wet snow or dirt,
Easy to do And it doesn't hurt.
Remember to sit on the rug , by the door,
Impatiently waiting to walk on the floor.
Notice the sign thats hanging there too,
Guests- wipe your paws, before you go through.
Why is it really such a taboo?
I've forgotten before, BIG WHOOP TEE DO!
Perhaps if my Mom got me shoes for the rain,
Even though wearing them would be a big pain.
Yesterday it rained and the mud was so deep
Our Mom took one look and started to weep.
Useless tears fell from her eyes,
Reaching the puddles and increasing their size.
Puddles are fun, I don't care what you say,
And when I'm outside its the first place I play.
While cleaning our paws can be quite a chore,
Stay focused Mom, theres only eight more!

*Quiggley* also won First Place ~ Cats.

U nliked rain falls again from the sky
P uddles have gathered oh my oh my
O nce again the mud gets between our toes
N ot letting up any day soon we are told.

E very inch of the ground is sadly covered
N ot one dry spot can be discovered.
T rying to hurry and quickly go potty
E ager to get this rain off my body
R unning back towards the door
I can't wait to mess up mom's new clean floor.
N abbed as I run quickly inside
G etting wiped down from front to behind.

W hat a chore this can be with four of me
I stand and wait for mom to finish
P oor me my paws are really ticklish
E ach of my feet are finally free

Y ummy treats upstairs are waiting for me.
O ver to the fridge mom opens the droor
U nravels the cheese as we drool on the floor.
R ainy days aren't so bad we get special treats

P oor mom gets tired though wiping our feet.
A t last we are in and down for the night
W ishing tomorrow will bring the sunlight.
S o goodnight we say and hope that tomorrow brings a better day.

Uh oh theres mud all over my feet
Puppy dog paws are not very neat.
Outside theres nothing but snow and muck,
Now upon my feet its stuck.
Each step I take, I leave a trail
Now I'm gonna catch holy hell.
Try to wipe the prints off the floor,
Egad! Now look, I'm just leaving more!
Really should have paid more attention,
Instead of tracking up this nice clean kitchen.
Never fear, I'll find a mop
Gotta try and get rid of this slop.
Working and slaving, I sweat and I cough,
I just might be able to pull this caper off.
Pretty soon its shiny and bright,
Everything clean, to my delight.
You know I've learned a lesson today,
Outside is where the mud should stay.
Unless I forget, its one of my flaws,
Remember to get the snow off my paws.
Playing outside can be really cool,
And cleaning your feet is an important rule.
Wipe them real clean like a good pup,
Save yourself the trouble of cleaning them up!

Third Place

Unusual weather we’re having
Precipitation potpourri.
Outside we’re still going
Not ones to stay inside are we.

Exactly what is happening?
Needles of rain, mixed with snow and sleet.
There’s icicles hanging from the trees
Extra layers of ice on the sidewalk and street.
Really hard to take a walk.
Inside is sounding much better.
Need to go back to the house
Gosh, my coat is getting wetter.

Walking behind my mom,
Indignant looks I give to her back.
Pointedly trailing behind.
Expecting her to notice the slack.

Yes, we’ve finally turned around.
Overjoyed I’ve become.
Upstaging her lead in the walk.
Returning home, no longer glum,

Poised, ready to run thru the door,
Attention now on the towel.
What, you’re going to wipe my feet?
Stupid is that, is what I growl.

Once again @ the Pet Poetry Group the poems were Delightful!! This was soooo hard..BoL!! Mission, however, has been accomplished and the winners are:

Once Upon A Time As the Snow Fell ~ Dogs

First Place & Best in Show
Angus @ 173508

Old Man Winter
Nearer draws, bringing thoughts of Santa
Claus and all his merry-making
Elves

Under frosty skies swirling snowflakes
Paint the land, as the
Old year fades to
New

And we greet the ghosts of the past

Time slips away
In happy reminisce we meet
Memories tender and bittersweet
Ever our love lives on

As in Christmas past
So in Christmas present

Tales of old
Hearten and sustain
Each brings joy once again

Sweetened by the passing years
Now and then come soft the tears
Olden times, golden times
When as children we dreamed of

Father Christmas
Even now I recall
Listening intently for reindeer paws and
Looking wide-eyed in wonder for Santa Claus

Second Place
Bandit @ 316691

Outside is the only place to be
Now that it is finally snowing!
Crunching through the frosty drifts I run while
Evening wind is gently blowing….

Under loaded boughs I expertly dodge
Pushing crackling grasses aside
Over crystal ground I jump and bound
Now that winter has officially arrived.

All around me big powdery flakes
Tumble and swirl in fading light,
Incredible that each is unique, though
Millions will fall on this single night.

Every icy flake that touches my nose
As I pause to sniff the rising wind
Seems to be an invitation to stay and to play,
Though home’s windows beckon, my constant friend.

Home where the fireplace is crackling, shooting bright
Embers up the chimney, a golden flare,
Smell of wood smoke, warm and delicious, my
Nose welcomes in the frigid air….

Outside is the place to be!
When snow is swirling and falling,

Freezing in the frosty, sparkling night….
Enough now! Home is calling!
Luscious warmth of the hearth and of home and
Love always inside, to welcome me when I roam!

Third Place
by Sophie @ 125183

One wintry day,
Not so long ago,
Came along a blizzard,
Engulfing us in snow.

Usually when it snows,
People stay inside.
Only not my family,
No, we go for a ride!

All bundled up

Toasty warm
In wool socks and boots.
Mittens and hats,
Encased by snow suits.

All ready
Says my dad?

Then lets go, before the
Highway gets bad.
Everyone to the car.

Sure the lights are off?
Need to use the bathroom?
Oh, you have a slight cough?
Wait,

Find the keys.
Excuse me, did I hear you right?
Last saw them where?
Locked in the car last night?

Honorable Mention

Winners ~ Cats

First Place

Outside all alone, I am scared of the dark,
Nowhere to run, it's bleak and its dark.
Crazy me to venture out all alone
Eerily quiet, I want to go home.
Unless someone comes to rescue me,
Perhaps I'll have to climb up a tree,
Or run as fast as I can go
No telling where I am, in all this snow
Adventure, Bah humbug. I want to go home.
To bad for me, I lost my way,
I run and I run, I can not stay
Mewling and shivering in this cold
Ever wishing for someone to hold.
Aching to get back to my bed
Shivering and quaking out here instead.
Trying so hard to get back
Hundreds of snowflakes have covered my track.
Everything is sparkly and white
Sure wish I had stayed in tonight.
No one around to pet me and no one to coo
Oh my goodness what will I do?
Where is my Mama and my soft warm bed?
Flakes just keep falling on my little head.
Each step I take I sit and ponder
Look! What do I see away over yonder?
Laughing with joy & chuckling real hard, I realize that I am in my back yard!

Second Place
by Jadzia Dax @ 308490

Ooh now
No fair!
Can't relate to
Everyone's wintery faire

Unfortunate me--
Poor poor kitten!
Oblivious to
Needing boots and mittens!

Awwwwww.....

Texas is warm, you see
If snow does fall,
Most melts on impact;
Everything's just wetter overall.

Apparently Texas is too proud--
Snow covering our state is not allowed!

They tell me the Panhandle's besot,
Having snowy time, but I suppose
Everything in AUSTIN's too hot!

Still, perhaps it's not so bad,
Not knowing what snow is like.
Of course, my sisters and I
Wouldn't be out for a snowy hike.

For you guys who';ve seen it--
Everyone who's touched the stuff--
Love and enjoy those
Lovely bits of chilly fluff!

Third Place
by Ariel @ 612946

Ornaments sparkled, as I
Napped under a pine scented tree.
Crackling sounds resonated from the hearth.
Easily I drifted off, peaceful and warm.
Unable to keep my eyes closed, I heard a
Pawing of a hoof!
Oh I wondered what I heard!
No one was around, so
away to the window I flew
throwing open the curtain;
I gazed upon newly fallen snow,
my heart fluttered with
Excitement.

And then to my amazement was this jolly looking fellow,
soon I realized who he was! With a
twinkle of his eye
he winked.
Eventually I dozed back to sleep….

So, when I woke,
no sooner did I notice -
Out of the corner of my eye - A red striped sweater
with matching hat and scarf!

From birth it’s been my fate.
Every year it’s a picture with Santa!
Let’s get this over with…
Lucky I’m so darn agreeable.

Congratulations!

Christmas Bash 07

Someone barked about it in the forums, asking if there was going to be a Christmas Bash, well we were not going to do one, because well, frankly the Halloween Bash and the We Love Mom & We Love Dad contests are our favorites. Putting on contests is actually very time consuming, believe it or not and a lot to keep up with. However, tis the Season, right?

There is the Dogster Holiday Stroll this year. So let's make this simple and sweet.

Take a photo with your Christmas Tree, or in front of your hanging stockings...or in your Santa hat. Or create a Christmas themed photo of your choice. NO Photoshop! You know by now that we are into real photographs for contests.

**Limit (2) photos per pup** no more then that, please!

Tag is Christmas Bash 07
*Click here to view the stroll*

We have one prize to offer valued at $26 plus shipping to the First Place Winner.

A "Wipe Your Paws" door mat from www.mccartneysdogs.com, with your breed or choice of given breeds on it. They are adorable! Along with this a Star for your page.

This is all we can offer this Christmas. If you'd like to participate, then please do!

Deadline to Enter: December 30, 2007

Happy Holidays!

This rounds acrostic was Give Me A Turkey Leg!

BEST IN SHOW

by Sophie

Gonna wait here patiently
Intent on the meat.
Vegan I’m not,
Extremely discreet.

Mouth watering endlessly
Eyes never waver

Anticipating the moment

Til the turkey I savor.
Usually my glare
Relays my need.
Keeping focused
Emphatically I plead.
Yams are no good
Leave out the peas
Excuse me, anyone?
Give me some turkey, please!

Sophie also tied for First Place. Congratulations!

First Place

Thanksgiving Conversation.

Growl
"I’m sorry that was my tummy
Voicing its need to
Eat something yummy.

Mom? Aren’t I a good girl?
Even cute as I spin and twirl?”

“Adorable, sweetie.”

“Then surely you will
Understand my burning need!
Remember I didn’t chew your sock.
Kept quiet when I heard a knock.
Even toned down my biscuit greed.
Yet here I sit, begging still.”

“Look at those pathetic eyes
Emphasized with drawn out sighs.
Girl, after your dinner we’ll serve the pies."

Second Place

by Hoagie

Gonna get a turkey leg,
I will sit right here and beg.
Very soon I'll get my treat,
Eagerly I wait to eat.
My mouth is watering, I've lost control.
Even knowing I'll reach my goal.
And yes I'm thankful for this day,
Turkey leg, for me, I pray.
Usually I'll sit and wait,
Reposed and quiet 'til I get my plate.
Keep on waiting patiently,
Even though it's killing me.
Yummy yummy , mine at last!
Lucky me, what a great repast.
Ecstatically I start to savor,
Gobble gobble what a flavor.

Third Place

by Winnie

Gosh, this is going to be fun.
I have only just begun.
Very very hungry I am.
Eating will be of turkey, not of ham.

Mostly what I eat is the savory meat.
Every little bit tastes so so sweet.

A plate with all the stuff

Turns out to be just not enough.
Unless you want to join me now,
Rest your chops, or begin to chow
Keep your belly in mind, I say,
Else you will be sick for many a day.
Yes, give me a holiday turkey leg.

Let me sit up and I'm sure to beg.
Every dog has his own way.
Give me a turkey leg any day.

Honorable Mentions were won by Baxter, Mojotiki and Gizmo

Congratatulations!!

First Place ~ Cats

by Forrest Grump

Got a turkey leg for me?
I'm as hungry as can be.
Very soon I may pass out,
Even though there's food about.
Make my day and give me that leg,
Eventually I'll even beg.
A special treat for a special cat,
Turn around and give me that.
Up on my hind feet, I will stand,
Reaching to get that leg from your hand.
Keen eyed I watch as you take a bite,
Ever keeping that drumstick in sight.
You have to see me here by your feet,
Looking so cute and purring so sweet.
Eagerly I prance and I flirt,
Give me that leg and no one gets hurt.

Congratulations!!

Story:
Humane Society takes in neglected dogs
Workers recover 24 malamutes and find 11 carcasses

Twenty-four neglected Alaskan malamutes were removed from a property near Rapid City Regional Airport on Wednesday afternoon by Humane Society of the Black Hills after a search warrant was served by law enforcement investigating a separate matter.

Phil Olson, executive director of the Humane Society, said the dogs are very thin, some to the point of emaciation.
