Arrival Story: We had been looking for a pure bred dog for a year. Our requirements were that since we are retired, and not as "fast on our feet" as we used to be, we wanted an adult not a puppy. Sooo...every month we checked with breeders, all the vets and the rescue shelters as well as the dog stores, to see if anyone knew of an adult Golden or Lab that needed a new home.
It was New Year's Eve, and we went to the local market for some good food and wine for the evening. We decided to check, once again, in the 3 Dog Bakery to see if they had heard of any dog. When we asked, the manager of the store said: "I don't know of a Golden, but I do know someone who is desperate to find the "right home" for a yellow Lab before January 1st."
She told us about the dog. saying that she was a "flunk out" from an assistance training school. We quickly gave her our home number, and in a few hours had spoken to the puppy trainer. Lucy had been a perfect dog in training all the way through school, but at the "finals", she balked at getting her nails clipped, and so she flunked.
The trainer came over the next day to check us out. We have a 3 bedroom home with a large front and back yard and a wall all the way around with a locked gate. That was perfect, as far as the trainer was concerned. She made sure that we had no small children or teenagers, which might be too "demanding" a home, and pronounced us perfect, and the new caretakers of this beautiful dog.
She brought Lucy to us after the agency had spayed her. Lucy ran around the whole house, checking it out, and then came in and sat at our feet with a wag and some licks.

Bio: We have a photo of Lucy and her brother Ladro at their graduation. They both have blue and yellow coats on, and look very serious.
