Shadow Blog!

Thunder dog

A few days ago we had a nice rain storm, lots of rain and wind. Normally storms have no effect on Shadow unless there is thunder. There was one flash of lightning and one loud clap of thunder all night. BOOM and she bellied out and started trying to get somewhere safe; she tried her house (her kennel) and under the table... she even ran out into the hall. My Mom was kind enough to allow Shadow onto the couch (a HUGE no no here) where she curled up beside Mom and shook like a little maraca for about 45 minutes, long after the one measly clap of thunder!

This is a new reaction for Shadow, one she developed last summer while we were visiting her Daddy (my fiance) in NJ. His dog was a little skittish when it stormed and the two of them seemed to worse and worse reacting to one another. We now how two dogs who are terrified of thunder!

It doesn't stop there though, Shadow now gets scared when its raining and very windy. I'm not sure if she is anticipating thunder or if its just from the windows and doors rattling. I guess its time to try some calming collars and see if that helps any.

Poor girl!
