Belly rubs. Collecting toys during the day and putting them in our bed.

On July 23rd 8 Westies came into Westie Rescue from a puppy mill in Ohio. I mentioned this to my husband and jokingly said we could be a foster (we have 3 dogs already!). He said okay, let's take a look. We were also transporting one of them from the Annapolis vet to a foster home near us. We met 4 of the 8 rescues. All were very timid and afraid of everything. They spent their entire lives in cages serving as stock breeders for the mill. After much deliberation we came home with Sabrina and Tiffany. Sabrina seemed to be the most alert and interested. In the end Rook, Skyler and Finn made the final decision and Sabrina was renamed Dory.
We can only imagine the horrible existence Dory had at the puppy mill. She doesn't seem to mind other dogs, but is very afraid of loud noises, thunder storms and strangers (well people in general). When she came to us she'd never been outside, had toys or even knew how to play. Everyday she is coming out of her shell more and more. Finn has forced her to play with him. She's discovered the joy of toys and when you give her one she runs upstairs and puts it on the bed. Every night she has quite a collection of toys from her day of gathering them. We are working with her on trusting people. She has a long way to go, but there is a spark of a true, lovable, mischievous Westie in there somewhere.
No loud noises paw-lease!

I can't believe I'm already 7 years old today! It seems like just yesterday I was about to turn 3 and just got released from that horrible puppy mill place that kept me prisoner just to give them puppies. Then the day after my 3rd birthday these wonderful people took me to their house - which is now MY house and those wonderful people became my mom and daddy.
I owe a huge thanks first to Maryland Westie Rescue who got me out of there and to my brother Finn. He has brought me out of my shell and I'm no longer fearful of much of anything - well except really loud noises, thunderstorms and occasionally people. I even got to go to Cape May for a little Westie meet and greet and had fun barking at the other boys to keep them in line.
Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone! I look forward to presents and frosty paws tonight with Finnie and my big brother Rook.

Yesterday we celebrated my 5th birthday and tomorrow is my 2 year anniversary with my family. Yeah ME!
Daddy and Mom threw a party for me. It was fun, despite the fact I had to go hide with Rook for a while in the basement because of the storms. I got all kinds of great pressies - like a new bowl, a dragon, a fox, a bling charm and new dress made by my friends' Misha & Spenser's mom! Plus I got all kinds of good treats!!! I LOVE treats!
I'm well settled in my house and just adore my Daddy. I've also become really attached now to Mom - I love her too. I rarely hide when anyone comes to visit. In fact, most people I now come up and bark a good story to them and make them pet me. I'm still afraid of a few people, thunderstorms and loud noises, but for the most part I've learned people are actually nice and friendly!
Though I probably will never completely get over those first two years of my life at that nasty puppy mill, I'm pretty well adjusted (and spoiled). I love my life and love my birthday!

Well I've been here for a little over a year now -- and celebrated my first birthday ever - even though I'm now the big age of 4! Let me tell you - I rule the castle here!
My Daddy and Mom are very proud of far come in the last year. I've gone from hiding up in the bedroom when people come to the house (and let me tell you - this is one active house), to barking at them when they arrive and hanging out on the deck at night with them on card night. I'm even the best dog out of the four of us when we stay at the neighbors when Daddy & Mom go on vacation!
I've found my voice and love to use it. When Mom gets home from work (or wherever she's gone) I love to bark and bark and talk to her about my day and what the boys did. I love Christmas and everyone's birthday - as we get toys and I claim every one of them as mine! Finn & I have great fun searching the yard for critters. We've even caught a bird or two!
My new favorite thing is POPCORN! I had some for the first time last night. I wish we could have popcorn for every meal.
I am the princess of the house and not afraid to let everyone know it either (especially those dang Border Collie brothers of mine - Rook & Skyler!)! My life at the puppy mill was really bad, but my life here has made up for it a million times over, thanks to the patience of my wonderful folks and of course Finn for brining me out of my shell!
Luv to all
