Birthday: April 16th 2000 Likes: learning a new task, rolling in the grass or something stinky, play at Hillside dog Park, tennis balls Favorite Toy: balls of any size, his dog bed Favorite Food: Canidae is his regular food, but he loves chicken (freshly cooked, if possible, but freeze dried treats are fine, too!) Favorite Walk: anywhere we go but he seemed to love NC Outer Banks beaches Best Tricks: Meka is a service dog, so he doesn't do tricks but does perform many valuable tasks; retrieving dropped items, opening and closing doors, providing support and balance assistance. Arrival Story: After seeking for a long time, I became aware of Dogs in Service, a small Service Dog training organization in NJ. After making contact, and discussing the process and my needs thoroughly, they proceeded to find and train a dog. When he was ready, I went for two weeks of training on-site to establish an initial bond and to learn how to work with him as a partner.
After returning home with my new partner, we continued to work together, with support (phone contacts and visits) from the trainer, enhancing our bond and refining the general tasks to my specific needs within my home environment.
Even to the present, we continue to train to reinforce and refine our work together. The Groups I'm In: Service Dogs Group I've Been On Dogster Since:
