Likes: Bob wants to be everywhere with only me, although he can no longer see where he is going
Pet-Peeves: Bob has a disdain for anything that is frivolous; I overheard someone comment a few years back while Bob was waiting for me outside a Starbucks: "Look at that dog. He looks so judgmental."
Favorite Toy: Tennis balls, although he can no longer see them.
Favorite Food: Bob will eat anything; has a fondness for garbage cans.
Favorite Walk: Anywhere. But mostly partial to the beach since he spent his formative years in Santa Barbara.
Best Tricks: Waiting until you are not looking to steal food, although he cannot see where the food is (which causes a lot of pratfalls).
Arrival Story: I wanted a furry companion in Santa Barbara so went to the animal shelter. By the way, the Santa Barbara animal shelter is THE place to get purebreds, if anyone is interested. People lose the animals on the beach while on vacation; I remember seeing great danes, shar-pei puppies, you name it, they had it.
Bio: Bob had a job in the pet therapy division of Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara. Every week he would make the rounds, visiting patients, along with another therapist, a Golden Retriever named Lumpy. (One of the orderlies was named Sparky - go figure.) Bob had an uncanny ability to figure out what seemed to be wrong with the patients. He had a badge and a uniform (bandana) that he wore. I was very proud. I think Bob thought he was a brain surgeon.
UPDATE: March 2005. Poor Mr. B, he can barely walk (comgenital hip dysplasia he only showed signs of a few years back), blind and deaf, with serious heart problems. As his vet said, he's being held together with velcro. But he really isn't in pain and is like a Timex watch - takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'. There was the probelm last year when he hemorraged violently and repeatedly, went into shock and almost died (no one expected him to make it through the night), having gotten an accidental overdose of condroitin when he ate a full bag of condroitin chews. But the next day he was up, wagging his tail and screamin' "Let me outta here." As a vet in Santa Barabara once said, "Bob is a superior speciman of the breed" and he certainly is. My dear little buddy.
MARCH 21, 2005: Bob passed on the first day of spring. He seemd to be having a lot of pain and had been somewhat incontinent for a year, which was fairly manageable until he started having difficulty getting up without help. Sometimes I wonder if I should have waited, but no, I think he left this earth with dignity and had lived a long life, for the most part very happy and relatively pain-free. But he seemed to really lose focus and energy the last couple of months, and he just looked like he was in pain. I know Bobby is still here sitting next to me and I feel there were a couple of signs right after letting me know he was right beside me. What a dear precious heart!

Forums I Belong To: Psychic Dogs, or Dogs Who Communcate From Beyond
A very odd thing has happened RE: Bob that I wish to share with any who are wondering if pets communicate from beyond. Well, this is what happened yesterday.
But first let me backtrack a bit...
Bob passed away about 15 months ago. Prior to that he had been on Dogster about one year. During those 12 months he got maybe six requests to be a pup pal. (The rest of the pals noted on his site are the co-links from our other dog Rosie.) Right after he passed, he got a couple of requests.
After that, about a year went by. Rosie got quite a few requetss but Bob didn't get any. I was thinking just about six weeks ago, that Bob obviously wasn't getting many requests and that was probably how it was going to be. My mom was sick and I was thinking about him a lot. I was wishing he would communicate somehow. A day or two later, there was an email request for a pup pal. I opened it, assuming it was for Rosie, but it was for Bob. It did enter my head I had made a request for communication, but was realistic that this was all just a nice coincidence.
I clicked on the pup photo and it was SASSY, and she took my breath away. It was as if I was looking at Bob, Sassy looked identical, same facial expression, markings and coloring. I wrote to Saasy's family about this coincidence and how it really moved me
I never heard back from Sassy's family. Then yesterdy morning, on my daughter' s 12 th birdthday, I was looking at the little black cocker spaniel statuary I have outisde my bedroom patio. It looks so much like Bob and I thought long and hard about how much I missed him. Later that afternoon, about six weeks afteer that unanswered mail to Sassy, Sassy sent a reply. In it, her family noted that they didn't realize they had mail. Certainly a concidence it was sent on my daughter's birthday, but again I just shrugged it off.
That email was sent at 1:14 p.m. By 3 p.m. I had received TEN addiitonal requests for Bob to be a pup pal. None for Rosie, all for Bob. That totalled 11 emails for Bob in one hour and 45 minutes. After the first 4 emails, I thought someone must be playing a joke. I looked to see if the dogs were related or if they all lived in the same area. All were from different areas, although there was one duplication, which lowered it to 10 emails for Bob on my daughter's birthday. I get a lot of emails but after that 4th email, evey time the sound went off signaling a new email, I literally was scared to open the mail applciation. It was always a new request for Bob to be a pup pal. One of them was 4 minutes apart, both from totally different people.
So, here we are at the present:
Six requests stretched out during the year Bob was alive, one-two requests right after he passed, one request in the year following, and TEN requests yesterday on my the day of my daughter's birthday. I don't know anyone on this site, nor did I mention anything about Dogster or my daughter's birthday to anyone...
