Arrival Story:
My dog, Harley, was dying of bone cancer and I decided to start looking for a puppy to bring home once Harley was gone. I did all the research on different breeds and decided on a maltese. Found a breeder close by and called, hoping for a female puppy. The breeder had a litter of 4 males who were just about old enough to find homes. I explained the situation - Harley had been an "only" his whole life and I didn't want to take that away from him in his final days, and I didn't want to take any attention away from him during this time either. After hearing my story, the breeder told me to pick a puppy, pay for him and she would take care of him as long as I needed. I looked down at the 4 little white cotton balls rolling around at my feet and picked up the littlest one. He curled his little "arms" around my thumb and rested his tiny head against my chest. I didn't need to look at the other ones cause it was love at first sight. Now for a name.... I held the puppy up and looked in his face. "What's your name, Little One?" I asked, and the first thing that popped into my head was "Joey." I told my mother who had come along to see the puppies and the breeder that this was my puppy and his name is Joey. My mother said, "You can't call that little thing 'Joey!'" I said, "what should I call him? Oootsy-Woo? He needs a tough name because he's a little froo froo dog. He's got to be able to overcome that somehow." So Joey it was. About 2 weeks later, Harley went to the Rainbow Bridge and Joey came home to live. The same day that Joey came home, my mother fell in love with the last puppy left in the litter. He wound up going home with her and is now happily manipulating the obliging humans who share his house. His name is Maxie.

Bio:
Joey lives with his Mommy and his little sister Grracie. He and Grracie go for play days with Maxie twice a week and most weekends.
