My friends, Banjo, Kiska and Greta showed up on my doorstop this morning with a beautiful pink cake and took me out for brunch. I forgot that it was my birthday, but those guys always remember. What great friends. We had a lovely breakfast brunch down at the bone bar.
When I got back to Flying Paws, Raffles asked me to get something in the back yard. As soon as I walked into the garden I saw all my friends and the place was decorated with bone balloons. It was a surprise party. Raffles and the gang really went all out. We had a wonderful day filled with food, games and swimming down at the beach. I sure am a lucky girl.
Raffles is the best brother. Tonight we will blow kisses to Mommy from our favorite cloud.

I can't believe it has been a year already that I've been up on the bridge. It seems like just yesterday that Mommy and I were cuddling and playing and saying how we'd always be together. I know Mommy is having a really bad day, but don't be sad Mom, just think of those 13 wonderful years we had. And hey it's a good thing I came up here to keep an eye on Raffles. He sure can get himself in a mess of trouble. So dry your eyes Mommy, I had a wonderful life. I had 3 homes before you rescued me and I knew I had found my forever home when you first scratched my ear. You gave me so much love that it will last me to eternity and I know we will be together again someday.
Look for the brightest star tonight, that will be Raffles and I looking down on you and sending our love.
Always your best girl - Callie

Wow! That was unexpected. I just found out that Dogster picked me for "Diary Pick of the Day" yesterday. Mommy is so proud. This is my first time. Of course Raffles will try to take some credit, he'll say he coached me. As we all know he has the gift of gab.
Thanks Dogster. I appreciate the honor. And the best part is I'm hearing from all my friends, what fun. As soon as I get my breath back I will be thanking you all for my wonderful gifts.
Mommy woke up this morning to skunk smell. Daddy insisted on having the bedroom window open which is right by Mommy's head. Mommy's first thought was thank goodness Maleka had slept in the house last night. But after she got up she realized that Daddy had let Maleka out about 3:00 for a potty break and didn't bring her back in. Yup you guessed it - she's way stinky now. And Mommy has to take Grandma to the doctor and groceries and then she has a doctor appt so she'll be gone all day, so Daddy is going to have to deal with it. Mom gave him the formula of baking soda, peroxide and dishsoap, so we'll see how he fares. This is a guy who never ever helps with Maleka's bath. He'll have to deskunk her and clean out her kennel and get new straw.
Mom is so glad she shut the kitchen windows before she went to bed.
Poor Maleka - she hates baths.
Oops gotta run. I 'll let you know later how Maleka fared.

Hey Mommy,
We can see your stress level is off the roof but you're hanging in there. Raffles and I are so proud of you. We know you will be okay. Just hang in there Mom, things will get better.

Even though Mom has her hands full with Priscilla and Quigley, I know she's feeling sad today. Memorial day isn't just for people. Mom's remembering us too. I've been seeing her hold back those tears all day.
It's okay Mom. We stayed as long as we could. We wouldn't have wanted you to mourn for us, just enjoy all the memories we had together. I know I'll always have a special place in your heart, but I am so proud of you for taking on the challenge of Quigley and Priscilla. Priscilla especially. She has had a challenging life and I can't think of anyone else who would love her and take care of her better than you. Now Quigley is another story. He is so much like Raffles, you're in for big trouble Mom. I warned you about puppies. You didn't listen. Priscilla is a saint for putting up with him.
Raffles and I will blow you kisses at first starlight.

Hey Mommy,
Raffles and I have been watching over you every night. Did you see the stars side by side. That's us hanging on to them. I told Raffles that this was one time his gas comes in handy, it makes our stars really bright so you can see us.
We know you are going through a very stressful time right now and we are sending you lots of love.
We've been in communcation with Priscilla and know she's taking really good care of you. We know she has her hands full because she's also dealing with the Quigley Pup - what a handfull. He has finally learned to sit and walk on a leash - we are very proud. We are glad you will be taking him to puppy class this week. It will give Priscilla one free night a week. She deserves it for putting up with him all day.
Gotta go. Raffles and I have a lunch date with Pongo and Stryker down at the bone bar. We are so lucky to have such good friends up here.
Love you Mommy - Callie & Raffles
P.S. Priscilla and Quigley need new photos - say hi to Maleka for me.

My Mommy's other name is Pat so we always had a fun time on St. Patricks Day. Happy St. Pat's Day Mommy. I didn't forget.
Everyone up here is wearing their greenery today in honor of St. Patricks Day. You should see the hat that Raffles got in a trade yesterday. A black bowler with green shamrocks on it and a bowtie to match. He's quite the sight. If he puts on that cape, I'm disowning him. That guy always wants to be the center of attention, but he's my brother and I love him.
There's a parade this afternoon being led by all the Irish dogs. The Irish wolfhounds are huge. We'll have to make sure Raffles doesn't get in their way. Adriana and I being the ladies we are, will be wearing lovely green shamrock collars. Nothing as ostentacious as my brother's getup. Us gals have been cooking up a storm this morning in our kitchen. We are having corned beef sandwiches and the fixings. Ah the aroma, it's mouthwatering. And of course everyone will bring something. We have the back area all finished now and it's huge and the guys just finished all the seating and tables. It's going to be a marvelous party after the parade.
I've been watching over Mommy and the Bostons from up here. Boy are those two a handfull. But, they keep Mommy sane. Mommy has been under a lot of stress lately at home and the Bostonians have been under strict orders from Raffles and I to shower her with attention. That Quigley is all legs. 10 pounds of legs. Mom wonders if he'll ever grow into them. He's a pistol but has to work on his manners. The little guy doesn't even know how to walk on a leash.
Mom is worried that he's so little he might get picked up by a bird.
Mom saw a Hawk in the alley yesterday sitting on a garbage can. A small hawk but one of the neighbors 2 blocks away said he saw an eagle. That worries Mom alot. So whenever the Quigster goes out she's out there hovering. I hope Daddy is as vigilant.
Well gotta run, the parade's about to start. I have to go get the gang.
Love you Mommy.

I'm so glad Mommy found 2 little faces that need her but I am jealous. I loved my Mommy something fierce and I know I was the brightest spot in her life too. She took it really hard when I left, and she still breaks down from time to time thinking about me. Time will help. Mommy used to joke that I was like velcro, always by her. I knew I had only so much time with her and I wanted to make every moment count.
Priscilla and Quigley keep her occupied and they will all grow to love each other and be each others best friends. Raffles and I will always watch over Mommy. Raffles say that with Priscilla and Quigley there we don't have to worry.
Uh oh gotta go. Raffles and Pongo are grilling steaks tonight and Ariana and I are making the rest of the meal. Cooking for 20, gotta run.
Love you Mommy - Callie

Raffles and I wished really hard for Mom to find some new furry friends and it has happened. She now has a 4 year old Boston Terrier named Priscilla and a 9 week old Boston Terrier named Quiggles. Boy does she have her hands full now. We are so happy for her.
I think Mom forgot that puppies can be a lot of work. When I was younger Mom brought a puppy home for me "Raffles". Boy was he a handul. I had to do some serious training with that guy. That's why he's the loveable guy he is. I hope Priscilla is up to the task, because take it from me, it's the other dog in the house that shows him the ropes and forms him into who he is. Mom helps some, but it will be Priscilla that will spend the most time with him. Good luck Priscilla. Contact me if you need some pointers.
Of course Raffles has the big head because he says that he was such an unforgettable fella that Mom went with Bostons again. I tried to explain to him that Mom was going to get a Boston and a mixed breed just like before, but fate intervened and she got two Bostons instead.
Mom almost found a sweet little girl like me but it was not to be (this time).

My birthday was awesome. The guys let me have the morning off from Flying Paws. They're the best. Tee Cee and I walked the shoreline and strolled through the woods and had a wonderful morning. We came back and had a picnic lunch in the back yard that Raffles arranged and took a long nap under the azaleas. Tee Cee is so nice to curl up to.
After the nap, we all went down to the beach for a doggie version of volley ball. Raffles closed "Flying Paws" early so everyone could join in on the fun. Then we went to Bonestroo, one of my favorite eatery's. As I'm a lady, I didn't get all crazy on my birthday like Raffles did. But I did have the bestest time with all my friends. We ended up skinny dipping under the waterfall and then drying off at a marshmallow roast and then going to viewing valley to look down on our families. What a wonderful birthday.

Hey - I just realized it's my birthday - I'm 14. My first birthday at the Bridge. Raffles said I could sleep in today, and I don't have to work at Flying Paws today. He said he'd take over for me. Ariana and Skoshi looked very alarmed.
Raffles has my whole afternoon planned, but hasn't given me any details. SO, I have the whole morning off. Tee Cee is coming over soon and we are heading to the bone bar for breakfast and going down to the beach and just walk along the water and come back through the woods. We both love those quiet times. And we probably better enjoy it, because if I know my brother, it will be a wild afternoon.

Boy the time flies up here when you have a mission. Raffles and I have been keeping busy running "Flying Paws Dictation". The place is always busy - and then after their dictation they hang around in the garden area. They're also working on clearing the adjacent area and our yard will be even bigger. We have lots of ideas for that.
Okay, so this week the most interesting barter we received for services was "Goldfish". Yes Goldfish in peanut butter jars. There were 20 of them. Well at first I thought what in the world would we do with 20 goldfish. I didn't have to worry for long. Everyone wanted one, so then they bartered something for them. It's a great system.
Raffles was in heaven again today because the bakers brought in chicken herbed biscuits. Yummy!
So Raffles and I are beside ourselves with joy because Mommy has found a new furry friend. A 5 year old Boston Terrier named Priscilla (Cylla). She looks just like Raffles from the rear. But she's a little more petite than he was. She's very cute, friendly, intelligent and very curious.
Mommy brought her home 5 days ago and she's doing great. There are still some issues to work out with Maleka. She has been trying to dominate Maleka and Maleka is such a sweet girl she hasn't told her what's what. Mommy has been walking them together every night side by side so that's helping them bond. They just need to take some time to sort things out.
Chewtoy, our cat brother is a little upset too. He had Mommy all to himself and had the run of the house with us gone. Now he has to watch where he walks again. Priscilla was great friends with him at first but then Chewie did the hissy thing, so now Priscilla is noticing him more. Dopie Chewie.
Rumor has it that we will be getting a new brother right before Christmas. That should be interesting.
Love you Mommy - Callie

I was checking on Mom today and it was snowing in Minnesota. Too warm for it to stay on the ground but Maleka was out there catching snowflakes on her tongue. She's a crazy girl.
Mom took Grandma to the Casino on Friday. Grandma loves to go to the Casino. Well by Monday they were both sick - really bad colds - they still have them but hopefully will be better by tomorrow. I think those places have tons of germs. I wonder why they don't have those sanitary hand dispenser gizmos. Mom doesn't think she wants to go back there, unless she wears rubber gloves.
Raffles and I have had an amazing week. Flying Paws Dictation is up and running. We've been busy all week and it's just so much fun to have everyone milling about and have something to work on. Everyone has something different to barter. My favorite barter this week was a bunch of old very colorful bowling balls. The bowling alley got new balls and these were tossed out and brought in to barter. We laughed at first but Ariana and I put our heads together and came up with the idea to use them as garden edging. We will have them put in so the holes are facing up and we can plant rock garden plants in them. It will be fabulous. I've already got Raffles and Pongo roped into working on this. It will keep them out of trouble.
As we are open 6 days a week, today is our rest day so Ariana and I have just been laying around thinking up more ideas and having a fun day. She is the greatest roomie. She says she snores, but I never hear her. Now Raffles, that boy can snore.
Mommy is seriously thinking about a new furry face soon. Her stress is catching up to her and she thinks more dog endorphins will help her. She keeps changing her mind, first looking at older dogs than puppies. I hope she'll get one of each. That would get her smiling and laughing again. I predict by Christmas that some lucky dogs will find their furever homes with Mommy.

The grand opening of our business venture "Flying Paws Dictation" was a big success and a really fun day.
So many pups came. It blew me away. Besides Raffles friends and the pups in our valley, pups came from everywhere. It was an amazing sight. Those that came from other parts of the bridge flew in on their wings into the clearing where the picnic and dancing were going to be. The bridge has a unique system for getting around up here. You just program your wings with the right coodinates and it's a cinch to zoom in on your location. They started flying into the meadow in a V formation. It was breathtaking.
Monday is our official first day. We have a lot of appointments lined up. Princess Ariana is a whiz at organization and just a darling girl so she is our receptionist and makes the appointments and I schedule the typists and keep track of the barter arrangements. Our typists are Skoshi, Lucyce, Gloria, Peggy Sue, and Gretta. Raffles is the boss, at least we're letting him think he is. He's the PR man. I will have to say that he did an amazing job judging by the crowd we had.
Everyone had such a great time at the dance. Ariana and I are kicking around the idea that after the dictation gets up and running we could get a matchmaking service going. There are a lot of pups up here that would like to find that special someone. We'll have to kick that around a bit.
So after the band left and we cleaned up, those of us that were still there decided to go look in our families. Mom told me to send her a sign so she would know I found Raffles and I was okay. Well I finally figured out how to do that. Rusty who has been at the bridge forever gave me a magic seed and showed me how to contact a special bird. He planted a seed in Mom's Hosta Garden last night and when she woke up this morning she found a blooming yellow daisy next to the Hostas. Mom had just weeded the Hosta garden yesterday and she knows there was nothing there yesterday. She had that puzzled look on her face for just a second and then she knew it was from me. She's been walking around with a smile on her face all day. It made me happy too.
Life is good. Love you Mommy - Callie and Raffles

I have to give mybrother Raffles credit. He came up with a great idea of having a steno pool to help everyone at the bridge keep up on their diaries. I think he even surprised himself that one of his ideas turned out so well. So in just a few hours "Flying Paws Dictation" is having it's grand opening. It's a great concept. Come in and dictate your diaries to our competent staff and they will have their paws flying in no time and your entries will be posted. If you want the privacy of doing it yourself, we also have a couple of small private cubicles for that as well. Everyone pitched in to get this place renovated and going. We couldn't have done it without all our friends.
The cost of the service is whatever you want to trade for it - there's no money up here. It could be services, food, whatever. We already have 20 clients and after today should have a lot more to keep the gals busy. We even have a couple of cats as staff. They have that extra digit so boy can they fly over the keyboard.
We will compensate our staff with whatever they want from our bartering. I know Skoshi has been wanting her cottage painted and her garden rototilled and some landscaping done. These are the kinds of things that the pups will barter. So as the steno staff get what they are looking for in trade they will stop working and enjoy themselves and a new group of steno pool pups will come in, so there will be a lot of turnover which will be really fun and Skoshi, Princess A and I will be permanent staff to oversee the operation and keep everything running smoothly. We will of course let Mr. Charisma (Raffles) think he's in charge, but you know where the brains are. Us gals came up with the barter system.
Where is the time going. I have got to scoot. Skoshi, Princess A and I are overseeing the final details and we need to make sure everything is ready by 1:00. Can't wait to see you. Raffles is beside himself with excitement. I hope he doesn't get the "big head".

I'm living with Royalty. Princess Ariana has moved in with Raffles and me. Raffles had the guys wallpaper the larger room with a butterfly border near the ceiling, got us comfy couches and beds and Ariana and I now have a beautiful cosy room with windows facing the garden and the morning sun. I loved sharing a room with my brother, but it's nice to be rooming with a lady and no snoring. Yay. I can sleep like a log now. Raffles took the smaller room, he's such a gentleman.
Ariana is just the sweetest girl. We have become fast friends. She will be part of the steno pool. The grand opening is this Saturday. We can hardly wait. The guys are doing a wonderful job renovating the garden shed into an office and adding an addition and a loft, skylights for natural lighting and a porch. I have to admit Raffles finally had a great idea.
He's just abuzz with ideas. Sometimes I have to make busy work for him just to get him out of our hair. I have him looking for a big scissor and a purple ribbon for the grand opening . That should keep him busy for awhile.
Money doesn't change hands up here. If you want anything you trade for it or put in a requistion and you find out what you need to exchange for it. A lot of it is just doing good deeds for others. It's a great system. In order to get the supplies for the office, we helped clear a beach, washed the Rainbow Bridge Train, organized bingo night and stuff like that. It' s not really work. Just stuff that needs doing and helping everybody out.
Well I'd better run, have to go see what trouble Raffles is in to now. It's always something with my brother.

Raffles and I are still searching for that perfect little furry friend for our Mommy. It's a little difficult as this new fur friend will have to get along with Chewtoy our 11 year old cat brother and Maleka our 12 year old Husky sister. We have to keep Maleka from getting jealous and Chewtoy has been having a great time as the only four footed critter in the house. So as you can see, this has to be handled with kid gloves.
Here's the criteria:
1. Must love or ignore cats
2. Must give Maleka the impression that she's still Alpha
3. Can't be more handsome than Raffles (that's his rule)
4. Has to be cuddly and love back rubs
5. Must absolutely adore Mommy and do the shadow thing
Raffles is hoping for another Boston and I say mixed breeds are the best.
So Mom is just waiting, knowing the right little someone will fall into her lap. She's been having a tough time lately so we hope to find someone soon and steer her where to look.
Oh you won't believe this. Raffles has just come up with another one of his "great ideas". Wait a minute, he might be on to something here. I'd better go hear him out.
Good Night Mommy - Love you - Callie

I can't believe I've been up at the Bridge for over a month. Time has been flying by. My brother Raffles is such a scamp but it's wonderful to be with him again. I forgot how bossy he was. He said no going out tonight until I write in my diary.
When I first came here, I was very nervous. Everyone was great. They sent someone to stay with me on the journey to the Bridge and once I found Raffles I was okay. Since then I haven't been lonely at all. Raffles has such great friends. They've all made me feel welcome and are always looking out for me. Sometimes I sneak off for a quiet moment on my own and go find the special place where I can watch over Mommy. She's doing better but she is still so very sad. She knows she did all she could for me, but she is still grieving. Raffles and I have talked it over and we think it's time for her to find a new furry friend. We know we will always be in her heart, but she's having a hard time right now and needs that new someone to help her heal.
We light a candle every night for Mommy and hope that she looks skyward and knows that the star she sees just might be our candle, telling her that we are watching over her and it's okay to move forward and love again.
Uh oh gotta go, Raffles said we are going to go watch a surfing contest. It's surfing in the clouds. That will be fun.
Love You Always Mommy - Callie

After the welcome to the bridge party (and what a great party it was) I went home with Raffles. He was hanging his hat somewhere else, but they like to keep families together so we now have this great doghouse inside a beautiful garden with bird baths and flowers all over. The house has two rooms, one where we sleep on two big soft cushion pads and one we can just relax in. There are big white moon flowers that bloom late at night on the side of our house. There is a window on each side so we can get the cool night breeze and there is even a skylight on the roof so we can see the stars. We have a patio outside with more cushions to lay on and sometimes Raffles friends stay overnight and we all sleep outside. At times there is a gentle rain to keep things growing, but no big storms, and no snow. We can be outside all the time. It's wonderful. I'm really going to like it here.
Raffles makes sure he knows where I am at all times. His friends are starting to call him shadow. They tell him to lighten up and let me have a little rope. This is quite the switch. I used to always keep an eye on him. Pongo says what goes around, comes around. I sure like Pongo. He's always dressed to the nines. Quite a handsome guy.
The best part of this place is all the friendships. Raffles has so many friends, and he says that they are now my friends too. His friend Pongo is the best. Pongo and his family made my Mommy smile today. I can never thank them enough for that. She was very touched by their kindness. This time they were not sad tears.
So it's time for our bedtime treat and to go to our favorite place to blow kisses to Mommy.
Love you Mommy - See you in our dreams.

After I left Mommy, an angel pup came and got me and took me to the train to take me to the Rainbow Bridge. There was almost a full train by the time it had made all its stops. We each had our own special angel pup to sit with. I have always been a shy girl and I was really missing my mommy so I was really happy to have a new friend. I was so nervous that I didn't even realize that my legs were working again and I felt all better again, like a young pup. The ride seemed to take forever, but it gave the angel guides time to talk to us and let us know what was going on and where we were going. We finally arrived and we were at the most beautiful place. The gardens were amazing, the weather beautiful, the birds were singing, it was a wondrous place.
Before I left, Mommy told me not to worry, that my brother Raffles would be waiting for me. I was so anxious to see him. But because there were so many of us coming to the bridge together, it was taking awhile to go though orientation. All of a sudden an angel pup came and took me out of line and took me to another room. I didn't know what was going on. I later found out that Raffles has so many friends up here that they were so worried that he was going to burst if he didn't get to see me soon, that one of his friends pulled some strings and I was ushered through more quickly.
After all the paperwork was done I went through another door and there I was in this beautiful garden. I went through the garden gate and looked around and saw a crowd of dogs waiting, but I could not see my brother. I was getting really anxious and just then I heard the telltale sound that could only come from my dear brother's rump and the crowd of dogs parted and there was his smelly little self. I ran and threw myself at little monkey face. I had missed him so much. He was crying and telling me that he could smell Mommy on me. We were both so overwhelmed.
Raffles has so many nice friends. It will take me awhile to remember everyone's name. He and his friends are whisking me away to a welcome party Raffles has planned. I was sorry to leave Mommy, but being with Raffles again is so great. Uh oh gotta go meet the gang and party.
Love you Mommy - Callie

Mommy booked me passage on the train to the Rainbow Bridge this morning. Mommy is devastated. Raffles went to the Bridge in May and now I've deserted her too. I don't know how much more she can take. The doctor said Mommy did everything she could to help me. My body just gave out. At least we had the weekend together. I couldn't eat or drink and had a tube inserted in my stomach that Mommy put all my medicines and water and food in. I didn't even mind. I couldn't walk. None of my legs would work. Mommy had to carry me everywhere I went. I was a mess. But the doctor thought this medicine would work for me, so Mommy took me home for the weekend and we gave it a shot to see if there was going to be a miracle. It didn't happen. Mommy and I got to sleep together all weekend and say our goodbyes. We both knew last night it was time and made an appointment for this morning. I went peacefully and it was just Mommy and me at the end just like it was the day she rescued me.
I'm feeling wonderful again and I think the train has stopped and someone is coming to get me so I'd better sign off. Mommy told me that my brother Raffles will be there to greet me. I'm so excited to see him and meet all his friends.
Be strong Mommy - I will always love you and we will meet at the Bridge one day.

My health issues have escalated and they think I have megaseophagus (esophogas muscle not working and I can't get any liquid or foods down to my stomach) most likely due to Mysthenia Gravis (MG) (an autoimmune disorder which causes severe weakness). Test results are not in yet. By the time I was admitted to the University Vet Clinic, I also had aspiration pneumonia. They kept me Wednesday afternoon through yesterday evening when Mommy picked me up. The doctor says it doesn't look good. I haven't eaten for over 4 days and now my legs don't work. I'm not liking what my body is doing to me. They let Mommy take me home and gave her lots of directions and medications for her to give me in my feeding tube. I'm very glad to be home. The doctors are trying a new medicine that they hope will work but they don''t think my chances are good. We're keeping our paws crossed that over the weekend I will get better. I'm glad Mommy brought me home instead of me staying there for the weekend. Mommy says if the worst happens she want to be taking care of me and my last memories to be of home not the hospital.
Doctor Simmerson and Vet Student Karen have been so good to me and Mommy. They are in my corner and hoping against odds.
Gotta go Mommy needs to feed me again.

Mom's been worried about me. The last couple of weeks, I've been having some issues throwing up clear slime and now I've started coughing at times. Mom took me to the vet yesterday. My blood and other tests were fine so they took xrays to see if there was any blockage. I've got them stumped. So now I'm on a pill for the cough and an antibiotic. I also have to eat a special bland food. They said I wouldn't like it, but I do. Mom is happy. I don't usually get canned food so this is a treat for me.
And speaking of treats, none for me, no matter how sad I look. Doc said this special food only until we figure out what's going on. Mom's been home all weekend keeping an eye on me. It's great.
My cat brother Chewtoy kissed me on the nose today. It made me stop coughing. Mom says if we could bottle that we'd make a fortune.
It's been nice and cool today so Maleka is enjoying that.
Gotta run, I think it's time for a pill and some more of that yummy food.

I've lost my hearing, and now I think I'm losing my smeller. Mom put a small mango sorbet cone 2 inches from my nose and I never woke up and smelled it. Thank goodness Miss Maleka was outside or she would have gobbled it up. When Mom finally woke me up, I ate it. It was heaven. I wonder if I can get an amplifier for my nose. I'd hate to miss out on a treat.

My tummy was bad yesterday. I worried Mom. She took me for a toe nail trim and a butt squeeze and then we stopped at McDonalds to ease the trauma. The nice lady at the window gave me an ice cream cone because she said it would go to waste. That may have been my undoing. When we got home I kept coughing and throwing up slime. Mommy got worried and asked Aunt Jamie to take a look at me. She got her stethoscope and everything. She said my heart was slow and to keep an eye on me. I stopped coughing after Aunt Jamie looked at me. She has a healing touch. She is going to be the best vet. I was back to normal this morning and Aunt Jamie said my heart rate was back to normal. It could have been a fluke, but I guess no more ice cream cones for me.
Mom put me and her in the bathtub today and gave me a bath. My hair got curly. I smell and feel much better. I hope stinky (Maleka) stays away from me now that I'm all clean. Mom says she'll wait another week to give Maleka a bath. Mom has enough stress today. Maleka hates baths.
Back to my nap.

What a great day I had today. Mom was home all day. She took Maleka and I for a walk this morning before it got too hot. Just a 20 minute walk. We loved it. Then Mom and I had a lot of chores to do, so it was in an out of the house all day. We cleaned, weeded gardens, washed clothes, cleaned closets, etc. Mom said I was a big help. We even got the tent out and set it up and Mom washed the sleeping bags and a man came and looked at it and took all of it away and gave Mom money. She said it would buy a lot of dog treats. I sure am glad I helped Mom. If Dad had helped he'd want to spend my treat money on those nasty cigarettes he smokes. Yuck. That's why I hang with Mommy, she smells better.
So another great day is planned for tomorrow. Mom would like to take me to the Hiawatha park, but with the price of gas, we might just stick around here and go for another walk. I watch those prices for Mom, because if she spends too much on gas, that might cut into our treat money. Whatever we do tomorrow, Mom has promised she's spending the whole day with me again. Yipee.
I sure am tuckered out from today so it's off to la la land.

Mom stayed with Grandma L. for two nights this week. I get worried when Mom doesn't come home. Mom says Grandma is all moved into the senior apartment and they unpacked the last box today. Grandma is very happy to have it all settled. Mom said she even said she likes it better there and her cats have settled in. So hopefully now Mom won't be gone so much. Mom is still working on getting Grandma's house sold so she will still be a busy Mommy. I'll be glad when that's over and Mom spends more time with me.
Of course Mom still has to go over to Grandma's and I understand that because she's her Mom and we love our Mom's. But Mom says she will try not to be gone more than one night a week. So I can live with that.
Mom and Dad took Maleka and I for a walk around the neighborhood tonight so I got to sniff alot and stretch my legs. That was nice.
As a bedtime treat Mom gave me some of her sorbet. She said it was mango sorbet. I love it. I hope she buys more. Mom has to work tomorrow, but she promises me we'll go for another walk.
Have to go guard Mom now while she takes her shower - Callie

Yay Mom's home. She took me for a walk this morning. Just me and Mom. We had to sneak out the front door so Maleka didn't see us. Mom has been spending a lot of time with Grandma L. Grandma is moving out of her house and into a senior apt., so Mom is her main packer. Sometimes she spends the night over there to save on gas. Grandma has a lot of stuff. I get very sad when Mom doesn't come home at night. I just sit at the window and wait. I don't want Mom to go away like Raffles did.
Mom is worrying about me. I saw a squirrel today and didn't even chase it. I'm still very sad about losing my best friend. I sleep a lot. The walk did cheer me up.
Dad's away tonight at my Aunt's house in Wisconsin, so I get half the bed. I can really stretch out. I suppose that darn old cat will try and hog some of the bed. That's okay - he and I will watch over Mom. Mom bought Chewtoy a toy today. He really enjoyed it. He's almost as old as me. I got tired just watching him jump around. Off to la la land.

Mom was worrying about me last night. I just sleep a lot and I've been sad. I sure miss my brother Raffles. Mom picked up his ashes on Friday and it was a sad day. We did get a cool paw print from the U of M that Mom baked in the oven. It even has his name on it.
Mom and Dad walked Maleka and I yesterday. That was fun. We didn't get to walk as far as Mom usually takes me because Dad said he was hungry and needed to go back. The guy just scarfed down a big sweet roll before we left. What a cop out. He doesn't like to walk with us, Mom is making him. He said he is tired. Hmmmm He seems to be okay walking around the golf course. Mom said if we all continue to walk at least every other day, by the Fourth of July we would all have nice trim bellies. And then people will stop asking Dad when the baby is due. He hates that. He said it's a milk belly. Has to have those oreos.
So Saturday night was pretty exciting or so I hear, because I was inside and didn't get to go out and see the commotion. Maleka had an overnight guest. If you read her side of it she said she's a lady and doesn't kiss and tell. So if you want the real scoop, read Raffles page. He's keeping an eye on us from the bridge and he sees everything. If that would have been me outside the critter would not have stepped one foot in our yard.
Maleka has been acting sad lately too. Even though she and Raffles didn't get along that well, she misses the little guy too.
Well back to my mid day nap, so I'm fresh for my walk tonight.

Mom is going to pick up Raffles ashes today. The U of M said they would also make a cast of his foot out of clay. I hope they remembered that. That would mean a lot to Mom.
Our Dad is a carpenter and he has made a wonderful oak box to put the little guys ashes in. So even though we know he's at the "Bridge" waiting for us, we will have a little bit of him with us too.
Mom will probably be sadder again today, but at least we will have him home with us. I bet Mom will put the box in a sunbeam somewhere.
Now that there's just the two of us Maleka and I are getting more walks. It helps us take our minds off of missing our brother.
If you check out Raffles page, you'll know he's still around as he had deemed himself a guru of sorts and is still writing in his diary. He wants to bestow his knowledge of ten years on his younger friends that may not know all his secrets. Once a yakker, always a yakker. We still love the little guy.

Raffles had a really bad night. It started at supper last night. It happened so fast, he was fine one minute and the next minute he was doing really poorly. Mom had told us last week to be especially kind to the little monkey face because she thought the end was getting near.
He hadn't had any seizures in the last week, but he no longer could see out of his right eye and his legs weren't working and he had really restless nights and Mom had this feeling. Last night he didn't eat. That told volumes. The little guy lived to eat. Mom stayed up with him all night. He couldn't lay down. Mom and Dad decided this morning that he wasn't going to get better and he had deteriorated last night so fast that he seemed to now be in pain and they didn't want him to suffer. They took him to the emergency clinic this morning and put him on the train to a better place. I told him to make a lot of friends which is a snap for him and I'd see him one day.
Mom has been crying buckets and Dad is even red around the eyes as well. I've known him since he was 6 weeks old and although he was a pain at times, and hogged Mom, he was my brother and best friend. I will miss him.

My beautiful tail looks like a rat's tail. Mom took me to the groomer yesterday at 3:30 to be groomed and, they asked her how I wanted to be cut. She emphasized that my tail is my pride and joy and had to be left like a flag. They said I should be ready by 6:30 and they would call. Mom called them at 7:00 because they hadn't called yet and she wasn't sure how late they were open. They said I'd be ready at 8:00. When Mom picked me up she almost fainted. They had shaved off my beautiful tail and it looked like a rat's tail. Dopey Mom still gave them a tip of $3.00, she usually tips larger. She was in shock. She wished she would have given a penny, then the groomer would realize what she thought of her work. When I got home Mom saw that I was kind of choppy too. Mom promises that I will never go back there. For $61.00 (plus tax) Mom expected a higher quality cut. I am so embarassed, but Mom assures me that I am still beautiful and my lovely tail will grow back. Another lady was in line to pay before Mom and she said they had cut her dogs face all wrong and she was not happy either. Mom also noticed that they yell at the dogs. She goes to Petsmart alot as our vet is right next door and goes by the grooming window. There are a lot of groomers that yell at the dogs when they cut them. That bothers her. Hey we get nervous being away from our Moms and Dads they need to have a little more patience. Mom doesn't know if any have ever yelled at me, but she's not going to take that chance anymore. If you're planning on having your dog groomed, watch that window ahead of time and see what's going on. I won't need to be groomed again until later this summer, (hope my tail grows out before then). If someone knows of a great groomer in Minneapolis, let me know. At least I'm cooler with all that hair gone. I think my tail is bothering Mom more than it is me. But when Mom's upset, I'm upset.
Raffles had another seizure this morning. It was short and not severe but scary. He and I are napping now. It's a dreary day, Raffles was not happy that there were not sunbeams this morning.

Mother Nature keeps playing tricks on us. Yesterday it was 45 degrees, but not as warm as you'd think because the Sun is hiding and the wind isn't. Mom says the weather people are "guessing" that it's going to snow again on Thursday.
Don't they know that it needs to get warmer and sunnier so I can go and get my summer cut. I look and feel like a young pup again when I come out. My groomer cuts away all the gray and it really gives me a lift. People think I'm a puppy not the mature 13 year old girl I really am. Mom never wants to get my hair cut too soon because you never know with Minnesota weather. We could get dumped on with 8 inches of snow. Then I'd have to wear one of Raffles sweaters. He wouldn't mind, but I would. I do have some dignity.
Well time for my nap, gotta run.

Well it's been three weeks so you guessed it "I've been scooting", so it was back to the vet for another butt squeeze. Mom was so surprised when I came back out and they said I was empty. I had been "scooting" for 4 days. The vet said it was allergies. He said a lot of dogs get them this time of year. I had the classic symptoms, chewing on my feet and scooting. So now I'm on Benadryl. I'm still a little itchy, but hopefully it will get better. Mom was true to her word, even thou I didn't make a deposit she still took me to McDonalds. We ate up on the hill across from the cemetery. It was a little cold and the ground is still soggy so we didn't get to walk very far, but it was fun.
Mom is home all day today, so I'm a happy girl. She has homework to do so she and I are hanging out in the office. Raffles is crashed out in a sunbeam in the kitchen. He sure does like his sunbeams. Sometimes he shares his spot with me. Us brown-eyed children stick together. LIfe is good.
Maleka is a funny girl. She comes in and out alot. She likes to be in and be by Mom too, but Raffles is so crabby to her, it gets crazy when she's in. Besides that she can't stay in for long because she gets too warm. I see her laying out there now in a sunbeam. Then she'll get warm and go lay in the shade. Mom says she thinks Maleka is getting deaf like me. Maleka sometimes doesn't hear Mom come home and jumps when she pets her. Oh well at least we can't hear Raffles crying and whining. He does that a lot. The medicine he's on makes him ravenous so he's always telling her about it. He's hanging in there. He hasn't had any seizures but he has the occassional "breathing episode". He's had two in the last week. They're scary as well.
Well gotta sign off so Mom can use the computer and do her homework.

Yesterday Mom scooped me up and took me for a car ride. I was leary. In the winter when she takes me for a ride, I usually regret it. I was right, it was off to the vet for a butt squeeze and a toe trim. I was thankful because there were more good things than bad.
1. I didn't have sit in a room, they took me back right away.
2. It was over quickly.
3. I got to see my friend Jenny.
4. Mom took me to McDonalds to get over the trauma. We shared two plain hamburgers.
5. Mom took me to the dog park.
6. I got to stretch my legs and sniff butts and I think my friends all appreciated my fresh clean butt.
7. I came home and had a nice nap.
Weighing the good with the bad, I'd have to say it was a good day. Mom says it's a good thing because we will have a repeat date in three weeks. I'll have to keep remembering how good that hamburger tasted.
Uh oh, gotta go. It's 32 degrees again and I have to go help Mom clean up the mine field in the back yard. I suppose I'll have to smile and pretend I haven't heard her say "If I had a quarter for every pootie I pick up, we'll be rich".

Mom says it's brr city out there today. We only go out when absolutely necessary. That means Miss Maleka is in the house today. Raffles hates that. I'm the good girl cause I'm the quiet one. Mom has been home all day. That makes me very happy. The sun has been out, but it was just fooling us, it's cold.
Raffles is doing okay. No bad seizures since that awful night. He had to go to the doc yesterday to get his phenobarbital checked and next week for his liver. But so far he's doing okay. He's a little crabbier than usual because he's so hungry. I've been letting him have some of my foodm - don't tell Mom. Mom is dreading taking him to the Doc next week because she can't take him until 8:30 and he can't have anything to eat before then. We usually eat at 5:30, so none of us will be able to eat breakfast and he's going to be very upset. Good thing my hearing is not up to par.
Gotta go, I think Mom has an empty lap.

My brother, Raffles is home from the hospital. He is on medicine so he doesn't have those bad seizures. Mom is very sad. The doctor says Raffles has a brain tumor that is inoperable. She's waiting to find out from the oncologist if anything can be done.
Has anyone gone through this with a happy prognosis to give Mom some hope? Thanks for all your well wishes and prayers. Mom and Raffles have a new mantra "out damn spot, out damn spot". Mom says you never know about the power of positive thinking.
I'm being especially nice to Raffles, letting him share my bed and lean against me. Since my hearing is going, Raffles always lets me know if something is going on. He's a good little monkey face.

It's very quiet today. Mom and Dad had to rush Raffles to the emergency clinic last night as he kept having multiple seizures. I tried to help him, but Mom and Dad wouldn't let me. They grabbed him late last night and drove him to the hospital. Maleka and I were so upset, we howled until Mom and Dad came back. I looked behind them but Raffles wasn't there. Mom said they had to keep him overnight so they could stop the seizures. His last seizure was 4:00 this morning so they have to keep him 24 hours after a seizure. They ran a bunch of tests today and still don't know why this is happening. So he's still there and will be having a MRI tomorrow. Mom wanted so bad to go see him, but knew that he'd want to go home with her and get more stressed so she stayed away. We sure miss him. Everyone is very sad today, just moping around worrying about the little guy. I hope Mom will bring him home tomorrow. I'll even let him use my butt for a pillow.

Hi Guys,
I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. We've rescheduled our Christmas until New Years Day. Mom spent all day yesterday with Grandma at the emergency room. The good news is Grandma didn't have to be admited. Mom stayed with Grandma last night. We get very sad when Mom doesn't come home. She came home late this afternoon with the good news that Grandma is doing fine. They gave her a new medication that is helping her. Poor Grandma she has a lot of bad days. I think she'll be happier soon, because Mom made her a bunch of magnets with our funny faces on them and she put them all over her fridge. Every time she gets something out of the fridge, there we are. Wouldn't that make anyone smile.
I'm worried about the little brother again (Raffles). He's annoying but I don't like to see him have to go to the vet again. He's having his teeth cleaned on Thursday and they will be removing a tumor underneath his lip on his gum line. He's hoping they won't have to take any teeth out as he says it might mess up his pretty smile. You'd have to see his smile to appreciate it. When he wants a treat really bad he will show Mom his smile, well a half smile. It's scary. SO, I'm keeping my paws crossed that he'll come through fine.
Oops, gotta go, bedtime. I need my beauty sleep.

My 13th birthday was yesterday. Mom says I'm an old lady now. Mom went to the store and bought me 3 different types of treats. There were some to clean my teeth, some heart shaped ones that Mom said were really good for me and some that tasted like apple. I loved them all. The only bad thing was that I have to share them with Raffles and Maleka. Oh well I don't mind, they always have to share too. That's how Mom runs things here. One for all and all for one. But Mom did slip me a few extra, as it was my birthday after all.
Mom and I have been together for over 12 and a half years. We both have been very lucky to have found each other. I don't know how lucky I am that Mom found Raffles, but the little guy wears on ya. He's a darling boy when he's not whining and carrying on. Mom just doesn't know what I have to endure when she goes to work and leaves me alone with the little munchkin. It's maybe a good thing that my hearing is not as sharp, I don't have to listen to him whine.
My ideal life would just be me and Mom living in a secluded place and Mom home all the time, going for walks and just laying together listening to Mom read to me. That would be the life. A girl can dream. Maybe when Mom retires.

My brother Raffles is at the vet today for his comp exam. I had mine a few weeks ago. Maleka is staying outside most of the day so it's just me and Chewtoy (the cat). Chewie sleeps most of the day. Boy is it quiet. Mom says you could hear a pin drop. Of course I got upset this morning when Mom and Dad left and took Raffles and not me. I guess I made so much noise Jaime upstairs said I was howling and came down and took me outside. Ah human contact, that settled me down for awhile. She told me not to be silly as Mommy would be home soon. She was right. So now I have just been really enjoying my day. No one around to get me in trouble or whine or be obnoxious. I get all the kitchen treats and I can sit on Mom's lap without him crying. He can be a little obnoxious some days.
I do miss the little guy but Mom says to enjoy the quiet, because he'll be home in a few hours and all heck will break loose. Raffles has been having some "episodes" which may or may not be seizures, so he has to stay longer today so they can keep an eye on him and do some radiographs to check out some things.
Of course, besides taking naps, I still have all my chores to do today, being Mom's shadow, helping do the laundry, inspecting the clean blanket Mom puts on my bed, watch for the mailman, monitor the perimiter, catch anything that falls from the counters, point out the pootie piles for Mom to pick up in the yard. Mom expects me to laugh every time she says "If I had a quarter for every pile I've picked up, we'd be rich". I just give her a big grin to humor her. SO, it's a busy day for me. Oops, I think another nap is in order. Gotta run.

Grandma is home from the hospital which is a great thing. She still doesn't have much energy so that's no fun for her.
Raffles ended up having 5 of his attacks in a week, but never when the doctor was around. He had a different type yesterday where he actually fell over so we're worried about the little guy. He's going to stay all day at the vet on Saturday. We need to find out what's going on. He's going to love that. Don't tell him.
Mom was painting a hallway Sunday and spilled a lot of paint on the wood floor. Good thing Daddy wasn't home. It was a mess. But she got it all cleaned up and you'd never even know. Then later that night she fell really hard on her wrist on the tile floor. I'm glad she didn't trip over us. I'm beginning to think Mom might be a little uncordinated. Raffles and I are going to have to teach her how to fall right. She didn't break any bones, but she has to wear a brace until it heals. We're going to have to keep an eye on her.
So, it has been a topsy, turvy week. It's bound to get better. Mom's been having a great time voting in the photo contest. There's a lot of very photogenic dogs and cats in the contest. She even entered us, imagine that. We'll never win, but it was a lot of fun.

I've been trying go give Mom lots of kisses this week. It's been a tough week for her. She's been worried about Grandma, she's still in the hospital but Mom's hoping she'll be able to take her home today. And then Mr Macho, (Raffley Baffley Boy) has had four of his attacks this week. They are scarey for the little guy, I try to help and give him kisses when they happen and help Mom calm him down. Mom has to go to Grandma's house every day to feed the cats and outside critters and then see Mom at the hospital. She's had to take some time off from work on Wednesday when she took Mom to the emergency room, so she has to work on her projects this weekend at home.
Mom took me in for a shot and a butt squeeze, etc. this week. You know how much fun that is. Mom has been worrying about me and Maleka too. We're getting to be old girls. Maleka was out of sorts last week and I'm losing my hearing and have the itchies. The good thing is I can't hear Raffles whine as much. You know I'm stuck in the house with him all day while Mom and Dad are at work. It gets annoying.
But, Mom says she always feels better when her and I cuddle. That's what I'm here for. Mom and I are a good team. She already is smiling.

Mom forgot to put my lovely face in the contest. I was so sad. I told her tonight that she forgot me. She felt so bad. She put me in smiles and grins. There sure are a lot of cute photos out there. We know we don't have a chance, but we just wanted to be in the fun and enter our first contest.
I keep asking Mom where the big yellow ball in the sky went. It has been rainy and dreary for a long time now. Raffles loves to lay on the cement slab by the garage and bake doing his froggy impression. He's a strange one my brother, but I love him. After his little (well not so little) butt gets baked he runs in the house, to cool off.
Mom always thinks it's cute how he finds the sun coming in the window and lays in that spot. It has been few and far between lately. Maybe that's why he's been so whiny lately. I'm stuck in the house with him all day. You guys don't know what I have to put up with. The cat just tucks himself into a ball and ignores him. But he's always in my face. The little monster. Mom says I'm a saint.
Gotta go, I'm going to curl up with Mom for an hour while she reads her book.

Yay, the vet says my liver tests are normal. So, I just need to finish my medications and I'm back to normal. I don't have to go on a special diet. I was dreading that. Mom is very relieved.
We got scared this morning. Grandma L. had to go to the emergency room in the box with the flashing lights and siren. She was having trouble breathing. She's doing better now, they're keeping her at the hospital overnight. We hope she will be home tomorrow. Her kitties are missing her.

Okay, I've been to the Vet three times in the last two weeks. I know Mom is just trying to find out what's wrong with me, but I don't like going there. Everybody is so nice to me especially Jenny, but I just don't like being away from my Mommy.
I was throwing up my food and Mom thought I looked sad and out of sorts, so she took me in to get a checkup. Now I'm on an antibiotic. They're not too hard to swallow because Mom wraps them in a bit of peanut butter. She knows what I like. My liver numbers were high too, so she had to take me in for liver tests. The first time she took me in for the liver test, Raffles and I were so hungry as you can't eat before tests, but we got into some candy - a big no no, so they couldn't run the tests and I had to go back in again on Saturday. So now besides the antibiotic I'm taking some liquid medicine because they discovered I have a parasite on my colon. Don't tell Mom, but it tastes pretty good and it should get rid of that little critter. Luckily Raffles and Maleka don't have it, so I get the yummy medicine all to myself. Mom will probably get my test results tomorrow. We are keeping our paws crossed that it was just a case of pancreatitis and the antibiotic will knock it out and it won't be liver problems.
Raffles went with me to the Vet on Saturday to check his stools for parasites and to have his toes trimmed. He is such a whinny boy. I wish Mom would get me some earplugs. As always he did his stupid leash fetish thing. He's so embarassing. He was lucky and didn't have to stay as long as me.
Mom said he was really quiet at home without me. He gets scared without his big sister to protect him. He's annoying, but he grows on ya.
Mom said she saw a dog similar to Raffles at the Vet and he was so quiet and well mannered. Just for a second she wanted to ask him if he wanted to trade. Ha, Ha, just kidding Raffles.

Yay! Mom took me to the River today. It's a dogpark by Minnehaha Park. We were lucky and found a parking spot right away not too far away. Mom has a weak bladder so we had to use the portable potty in the parking lot. I hate when Mom takes me in there. Dad tells her she should leave me outside but Mom always wants me safely by her, so look what I have to endure. As it turned out, it's good that Mom doesn't listen to Dad, because no sooner do we leave the potty and Mom is just shutting the door and this humongous dog comes charging at us. He looked like that dog from the movie Hooch. He was huge. He didn't look all that friendly to Mom and she loves all dogs. So she got in between us and he knocked her down so she scraped her arm. He apparently got loose as the lady was taking him out of the car. You know how we always get excited after a ride. She yells to Mom, don't worry he's friendly, right before he knocked Mom down. Mom wasn't very happy but she didn't say anything to her, she just mumbled under her breath to me. If I was out there all by myself who knows what would have happened, I would have been really scared. We saw him down by the river later and he was still charging everyone. Mom says if you have a dog that big, you better control him better. Mom got knocked down by Maleka in November accidentally and ended up in the emergency room and on crutches for awhile. Big dogs should have brakes or something installed.
So anyway, we walked through the woods, and then headed down to the water. The water was nice and warm. We walked in the water up to our ankles and I helped Mom find flat rocks that she could skip. She's not very good at it, but I encourage her. She did manage a three. We found a real pretty shell for Mom's desk. We stayed there for about two hours and met a lot of people and other dogs.
On the way home we stopped at a McDonalds and the nice lady there gave me a bone. She probably didn't know that Mom had got me two hamburgers. They sure were yummy.
Well I'd better sign off. I am one tired dog. Romping through the woods, running up the steps, splashing around in the water and greeting everyone has me dogone tired. Night night. It was a wonderful day.

P.S. I did not see any pirates and no buried treasure. There was a big hole, so I bet we were just a day late.

What a beautiful morning. The sun is shining and there's a cool breeze in the air. We had a minor setback this morning (see Raffle's Diary), we had brunch instead of breakfast. But Mom's home now and we are content to just take a nap.
Mom's brother, Uncle Jesse is having a birthday today. He's 50! Wow - he's older than dirt. He's having a good day, he's at an auction. He loves that kind of stuff. I hope he finds something cool. Mom just sang happy birthday to him - she made up this birthday song for him years ago - something about living by a zoo and she sings it to him every birthday. It makes him laugh, knowing that someone is just a little bit stranger than him. Mom and the rest of the family are getting together to celebrate next weekend.
Sunday is going to be nice as well so Mom said she would take me to the dog park by the river tomorrow. I'm so excited. It is my favorite place. I can run free through the woods and then Mom and I run in the water up to our ankles. Mom never has to worry about me off leash as I will run past her and look back and then run back to her and keep going back and forth. I'm never more than 5 people lengths away, I don't want Mom to get lost. When I can smell the river, I look at Mom, she gives me the go ahead and we both run down the hill to the water. The other dogs are a lot more rambunctious than me so Mom and I always try to find a quiet spot. Poor Raffles, can't go with us. He's not as dog social as me. And Maleka would take off on Mom, so it's always just her and me. I enjoy that. It's like when I was a puppy and it was just me and Mom. Those were the days.
Well Mom has to take Grandma to the pharmacy and the grocery store this afternoon so I'll be able to rest up for our adventure tomorrow. I'll let you know if I see any pirates or find any sunken treasure.

Mom took me for a walk before dinner. What a great way to end the day. We had to sneak out of the house so Raffles and Maleka wouldn't get jealous. Mom says we're going to try and do this every day if her knee isn't bothering her.
Raffles is a nightmare to walk. He has a leash fetish. It has to be constantly in his mouth. He just holds on to it. I don't think he's a real dog. He doesn't walk and smell things. Maybe something happened when he had his nose job.
Maleka is too powerful for Mom to walk with her bad knee. So, lucky me I get to walk with Mom.
Oops gotta go, Mom's headed toward the shower. I lay outside the tub and guard her. Raffles helps.

It was a good day. Grandma and Grandpa came from Montana and spent the morning with us. We got to share in a breakfast of french toast and bacon. My tummy likes bacon. After they left Mom and Dad hung out at home all day. It was drizzly all day so we all got some naps in. Raffles and I got to use Moms leg for a pillow. When Mom woke up her leg was still sleeping. She said we did that. She had to do a little dance to wake it up. Mommy is so funnnnnnny. Mom gave me lots of backrubs while she watched a TV program, that was heaven. Of course Raffles had to horn in too. He's so needy. He never used to like backrubs but now that he knows I love them, he wants them too. Monkey see, monkey do. Maybe that's why Mom calls him Monkey Face.
Mom is staying home tomorrow with us too. Can life get any better than that?

Maleka and I always knew Raffles' gift for gab would take him far. He was Dogster diary of the day a few days ago. We were very proud of him (and maybe a tad jealous). The little guy is one of a kind. Mom always says he is good as gold (when he's sleeping).
We were all very excited. Raffles met a lot of new friends that wanted to be pals with him and us too. It was awesome. We have so many handsome and gorgeous pups on our page. The week was great. I got a star from Mrs. Penny Ann. Thanks Penny you made my day.
Now we have so many new friends we have to check out and find out who they are and what they're up to. This will be fun.
Uh oh, Dad's calling for lights out. Gotta go.

Boy did Raffles and I have a good time today. We had front row seats to see Maleka get a bath. Mom had to lock herself and Maleka in her kennel in order to give her a bath. Maleka makes such a big deal out of it. She loves to jump in the river, so it's not the water she hates. She had Mom running all over the kennel to get her wet and soap her up and then rinse and dry her. It was a fun show at least for Raffles and me. The only way it would have been better is if we would have had popcorn.
Now that it's over, Maleka looks so clean and fluffy. You might not know she was the same dog. At least Maleka didn't bite Mom. But as soon as she was released from the kennel she ran to her dirt holes. Mom was surprised she didn't really get too dirty. I think Maleka enjoys being clean. She just doesn't like to lose control. When Mom wasn't looking she went into her clean kennel and laid on the quilt. She loves a clean house. Mom even put throw pillows on her straw couch so people can come by and visit with her.
She's a funny girl. She is exhausted now, she lying on the porch outside our window. She is so tired that she's resting her head on the porch railing.
Mom stayed home all day with us. It was great.

Raffles and I went to the groomer this morning. Riff Raff had a bath (boy did he need it) and he smells pretty good for a boy. His coat is very shiny, Mom might need to get me some sunglasses to cut down on the glare.
I had my hair cut. I was getting really warm again. The groomer made my eyebrows funny, but Mom says they'll grow out. So I forgive her as she made all the gray hair on my shoulders vanish. She's a magician and I feel like a young puppy again and I smell wonderful. Maleka and Cleo were checking me out. I can't get too close to Maleka as she's still stinky. I don't want her to contaminate me.
Mom was going to bathe her today, but they got two tickets to a golf event so she's going to be stinky until next week.
I got really nervous when Mom left us this morning, but she always come back to get me. I always worry about that. Raffles kept telling me to calm down. I guess I should listen to him. What am I saying, this is the guy that embarassed us this morning. He always wants to grab my leash and pull it to the ground. He's a weird little boy.
Well off to my nap. Have a GRRRRReat day.

You may have heard on the national news that a bridge in our neighborhood (35W in Minneapolis) collapsed this week, killing at least 5 people, (recovery is still underway as some folks are still missing) and injuring approximately 100. My Dad usually drives over that bridge twice a day. He's a carpenter and goes to different jobsites. Luckily he was working in St. Paul this week and did not have to go over that bridge. His guardian angel was looking out for him. There was one person on the bridge that Mom knows. He was injured but he's home now and going to be okay. He was very lucky.
We want to thank everyone who sent their good wishes our way. Thank you for the rosette and kind thoughts from an unknown caring friend. It will take the city awhile to recover and for everyone to feel safe on the bridges again. One good thing that came out of this is that the Governor is going to call a special session and see what can be done about finding the money to repair these old bridges. Dad thinks the money could be diverted from other funds without adding more tax. Maybe from the light rail system. But we'll have to wait and see what the politicans do.
Thank you for all your prayers for the families and loved ones who have someone they lost or have someone who is injured.

Sasha Bunny Valentine (a gorgeous friend of mine - and my brother's girlfriend) "loved tagged" me. I'm excited.
These are the rules. You need to post 7 pawsome facts about yourself in a diary entry. Then choose 7 doggy friends, who will then post up in their diary who has been love tagged them and post 7 of their friends names. Then send them a pawmail or a rosette saying they have been tagged and to see the rules on the diary page.
Pawsome Facts About Me:
1. I have the best friends
2. I love playing my favorite game "the sky is falling"
3. I love steamed cauliflower
4. My coat is 4 different colors - I used to be a tri color, but now I'm getting
gray, so that makes me quad color
5. My family is the most important thing in my life
6. I love to be petted, massaged, rubbed - I crave attention, touch me 24/7
7. I am Mom's shadow
These are the friends I have "love tagged"
1. Cleo (my upstairs buddy)
2. Ginger, my cute friend from Brazil
3. Gypsy, a real class act
4. Gizmo (sibling of Gypsy) , another sweet girl
5. Luna (another sweet girl from Brazil)
6. Oscar - I love his little face
7. Hoover - another sweet, sweet face.
Thanks for playing with me.

I am so excited. Mom made me a cool slide show with music and everything. on my page. Raffles doesn't even have music on his. He is going to be so jealous. I told Mom she needs to take more photos of all of us. She needs to make Chewie and Maleka's page special too.
Mom is learning how to do these things by looking at all the other pup pages. She's having a lot of fun.
I am so tired tonight, because whenever Mom is home I have to be her little shadow. She's a busy lady, always doing something so I'm up and about a lot. Makes me a tired little girl by the end of the night.
She's spending the whole day with us tomorrow after her bike ride. I can't wait.

You may already know from Raffles and Chewtoy that Maleka and I had an altercation this week. Mom gave us some rice krispies on the porch and Maleka wasn't watching where she was putting her mouth and tried to eat my pieces. I'm sure it wasn't my fault, hey I'm a 12 year old grandma type dog why would I take on a big horse like her. Well I ended up on my back with her big old slobbering mouth on my ear. Mom got her off of me (I'm glad Mom didn't get bit) and I was pretty scared for a bit but Mom was there to protect me. I limped just for awhile and Mom thought we had both come through unscathed, but then Dad saw some blood by Maleka's eye. I must have lashed out at her when she had me on my back. I guess she'll think twice about tackling me again. Dad found some of my hair on the porch, so Mom checked me out again and I had a scratch on the outside by the top of my ear where the hair was pulled out. Then she looked in my ear and saw some bite marks. Maleka plays dirty. So I ended up with about 5 owies on my ear. Mom has been playing nurse and making my ear feel better. I'll be keeping an eye on Maleka, she won't sneak up on me again.
That Raffles is quite the character. After all the times I've stuck up for him and made sure he is safe, what does he do. He eats all the rice krispies while we're having our skirmish. I guess that's why Dad calls him porkchop. He did come up and give me kisses to make me feel better, but that was after he gobbled up all of the rice krispies.
Next week should be a quieter week. Dad is going on a golf trip and it's just us and Mom. Dad says she spoils us. We're worth it.

Mom and I met over 12 years ago. I was at a pet store that was having an adoption day through Homeward Bound. Mom had her eye on a very mellow dog that was walking around without a leash but thought she might be a little big. But then she saw me. I had just been placed in a very small pen with 3 huge dogs, who wouldn't leave me alone. Mom got me out of there and we hung out for awhile. She was torn between me and this other dog. Well it turns out that this other dog was actually my dog Mom. Isn't that weird. She didn't look anything like me. But I won over my Mom's heart. I was already 8 months old and I had been adopted by several other families but for some reason or another they gave me up. I was beginning to think I'd never have a family who would love me and want me to be with them forever. Well I found my family that day. It was tough at first as I was so afraid that I would be sent back again. I had separation anxiety for a long time. But here we are 12 years later and Mom still adores me.
