Shakes the correct paw when asked (known as the "peace paw"), catching her tennis ball

Arrival Story:
We were looking for a puppy after Jenny & Rigby moved away. (See photo of opera star Rigby.) My co-worker saw a litter of black lab-looking puppies playing in a yard in Tully, NY every day when she drove past on her way to work. She got the owner's phone number and soon we were off to pick out our new family member.

Bio:
Josie is a mix between a Black Lab (her mom) and a German Shepherd/Husky mix (her dad). She was born on April 23, 1994 in Tully, N.Y. She has big ears and the tips of them flop up and down when she runs so thats why we call her Flopka. She loves to have dog fun with her cousin Georgia & is very patient with her cat Silky who can be a big pest. Josie is very obedient & even pees & poops on command! As she is getting on in years now, she has developed what is known as "wobbling syndrome" & spinal stenosis which causes a weakness in her rear end. She needs to wear a special support sling so her humans can help her walk upright when she has to go outdoors to do her personal things. She recently became the happy owner of a wheelchair cart & is a whiz at doing backwards donuts & can stop on a dime. In spite of these disabilities, Josie remains just the very same sweet dog as she always has been. She loves to give big wet kisses to her humans & she's even an expert at giving eskimo kisses (rubbing noses)! She is the very best watchdog & she never does anything wrong. Words simply cannot describe how much we love her. Josie is the best dog in the whole wide world!!! UPDATE: Our Beautiful Joe went to the Rainbow Bridge last Saturday, January 27, 2007 after more than 2 years of living as a handicapped dog and quite recently developing another incapacitating health condition. She was put to her much needed rest with her beloved family members by her side. She was such a brave sweetheart all throughout her disability and she was the same way on that day facing the inevitable. We will miss her more than words can ever describe. Our hearts are heavy but we're happy and at peace to know that now she can get up by herself and she can walk & run amok in her beloved snow to her heart's content. Bye for now our dear Flopka...until we meet again.

bow-Wow! My new cart from Doggon' Wheels came in the mail on Saturday, August 13, 2005. I thought it was a pretty strange looking contraption & at first I didn't know what to expect - would that thing hurt me? After what seemed like take-forever height adjustments (of which I was my same wonderful patient self) I began my new life as a wheelchair dog. Its pretty easy to back up & turn around & do those donuts but I'm embarrassed to say that its been a bit harder for me to walk forward. That is until the other day when Barbeenie (my nickname for my human) went over to the fence to say hi to Jesse, our next door neighbor dog. Well wouldn't you know my green-eyed monster (which I usually keep well hidden) came out & bit me on my fanny & said "RUN"! So I did....I actually ran up to the fence where Barbeenie was handing out MY head pats to that silly yappy dog next door. I surprised myself - whee! -- this go-cart thingee is fun!!! I'm getting to be very fond of it & so glad I can move around by myself once again. Its a whole new world so watch out everybody - my next new nickname may be "Josie Knieval"!
