Crossing the Rainbow Bridge

Dear Annie went to the vet this morning for help in passing over the bridge. She was so good though she usually pitches a fit at the vets. I think she was relieved as life had been pretty miserable for her during the past week. It was time to go and she went quickly - I had asked Blicky to meet her across the bridge and say hello and hope she will do that. Annie won't mind though - she has been a "loner" all her life though one couldn't have asked for a more faithful and protective friend but she was very independent. An odd coincidence that I hadn't thought of when I made the call to take her in - Sasha's mouth has watered forever to be top dog but she never dared to challenge Annie and now on Sasha's one year anniversary with me she has her best wish!

Annie's New Friend Charlie

We are enjoying corresponding with Charlie, the red heeler. I want a red heeler so bad. My dog Patches is a red heeler/Akita cross but he is just a sweet dog and not an intelligent conniver like Annie who can outsmart me about ten times a day! Annie is hurting a little as it is cold and wet - she has a new puffy bed and is "sacked out" literally near the wood stove.

Still Top Dog

Annie is still firmly top dog - don't know how she does it but she just gives that cattle dog stare that they use on cattle and Sasha pretends to be doing something else. Annie is beginning to feel her age again - or maybe it is just the cold weather but she has stopped going on her morning walks and when she doesn't want to do something wild horses can't make her. She is also becoming somewhat incontinent and when she needs to go she needs to go now so there are some house accidents. But otherwise she is doing very well - she has a new posher bed that is very comfortable for her and she occasionally uses it though she still seems to prefer the floor. She sleeps away most of the day.

Maintaining Top Dog!

Sasha came to live at my house about five months ago. Sasha is a chow and very aggressive and thinks she should be top dog. I may be 18 years old and toothless but no two year old upstart is going to take my place as Top Dog. I just give her the Top Dog stare and she backs off and just pretends to be playing. So far, so good!
