Puppy Pad Training

Meka has been a great addition to our family. She is 13 wks now and wants to run all over the house. I would have no problem, except that she's not taking to the pad training that well. She sleeps in a playpen at night, with a pad on on side and her pillow etc on the other. She has no problems using the pad when she's in the pen, its when she gets out that's the problem. I dont know if its because she's so excited or what... but she will "potty" right next to a pad rather than on it. This hasn't been very nice for my tan carpet, but, I know she's still a baby and is indeed learning. I think at this point, Im going to purchase puppy pants or diapers, so that she can indeed play around the house, and I wont have to worry so much or clean so much, lol.

Visit to the Vet

Meka is 14 wks old now. We had to take her to the Vet yesterday to get another set of shots... And just like my daughter or any other child, she didnt feel good for the rest of the day. When Meka had her first sets of shots, she was with the breeder... so it was truely a learning experience tending to her needs. She didnt want anyone but "mommy", and I must admit I loved it!! Once we got her home, she was shaking so much that I had to wrap her in a blanket and keep her near me for warmth. She didnt want to do anything, so I played "maid for the day" bringing her food and water as needed. I already have so much love for Meka that she really is my second child... Until next time.

Sunny Day's

Yesterday was America's birthday... and we had a very Happy 4th. We spent the entire day at my mother in-law's for a BBQ and the grill wasnt the only thing cooking. Here in Sacramento, the temperature reached 105 and we all felt it. Meka has only been on a few outtings aside from the vet and needless to say she's starting to like going "bye-bye" and definately loves outdoors. She really enjoyed running through the sprinklers with Ariyah (my dauther) and hopping in the grass is her favorite.

I'm always touched to see her loyalty to mommy. Especially when we're around other people... but, it doesnt matter where we are, she always makes sure to keep me in her view and trys to stay very close to me. We took her for a walk without her leash and she had no problem coming when I called her. Though, she can be a little distracted at times, I can tell she is learning... and I am too!

New Blue Dress

Now that Im getting older, I can "bark" for myself. The past few weeks have been fun! Im learning so many new things, that I do tend to get confused at times.... but, all in all Im a very good pup! I can sit and come on command, though the "potty" thing is gonna take a lil' more work. Its just too darn hard for me to stop playing with my family and get to that potty pad... But, since Im still a puppy, they're being patient with me.

This weekend I got to be "America's Top Pup Model". My mommy made her first attempt at making me a dress (light blue w/ ribbon). She didnt do bad for her first try, though as you can see - she's still got work to do. Never the less, this ment lots of pictures... and it wasnt bad.... until the bow's. I just hate bows in my hair and she must have put on every color in the rainbow.

Meka's Big Move!

Meka's been a part of our family for about 2 1/2 mo's now. She's been a great addition but also part of the reason we had to move out of our apartment. The managers had some issues with "pets", so moving was the only solution. We went from a 2 bedroom apartment to a 2 bedroom townhouse w/ stairs and plenty of room outside for both my daughter and Meka.

Meka began acting a little different during the moving process. I could tell she began to wonder where all the furniture had gone... and of corse when it was empty, she couldnt help but run around smelling for familiar sents that weren't there. Now that we're all settled into the new place, she has been confined to a corner w/ her essentials. I've attempted to let her explore her new surroundings, however she quickly looses that opportunity when she uses the bathroom on my new carpet. Im getting a little frustrated and concerned that she just wont understand the whole pad training thing. But, they say "patience is a virtue" - right !?!

A lot has been going on with me, so I thought I'd update everyone... Im 8 mo's this month and have matured quite a bit. I've been on a few long distance (1 hr) car rides with mommy & daddy, and I cant yet say I like it. Even though mommy lets me sit with her, I get so nervous and cant sit still for the world. Its usually like this when we are driving to our destination... but, on the way back - its all good. Whats up with that?!? None the less, Im trying to work on that (whats a pup to do).

I've been socializing with other animals as well. Not all have been good encounters, especially with a cat named Midnight. Let me tell you! I just wanted to say hi, when outta nowhere; he began to hiss and swipe at me. I was frozen with fear, and if it wasnt for my daddy picking me up; I would have been "cattacked"... Im a lover, not fighter - so this was truley not my thing. I've also met some good pets and have made a few friends as well.

Mommy & daddy have seen that I am growing and they've allowed me a bit more freedom for that. They have given me more space in my room and I've been doing great! I potty on the pee pad with no accidents!! I've also learned a few more commands and all in all have just been quite the dog lately. Yay for Me...Meka that is!
