Dear Diary,
It was the fall of '95 and I was about a year and a half old.
We had gone to moms parents' camp in the woods to spend the weekend. Mom decided to take me out for a walk. There was an old overgrown road that twisted and turned and eventually led down to the river. We had been on this road for about 10 minutes when all of a sudden I decided to go ahead on my own, out of sight from mom. She quickened her pace to catch up with me, and just as she rounded a turn in the road there I was.... nose to nose with a DEER!
Mom couldn't believe it... a DEER! and we were touching noses.
Mom stopped in her tracks, her lips were silent, her eyes as big a saucers, her brain full of fear. Would I bolt? Would I chase the doe? Would I refuse to come when called? Would I get lost in the woods? Would a Forest Ranger shoot me if I chased the deer? as these thoughts raced through mom's brain she all of a sudden realized that she... DIDN'T HAVE ANY OF MY DOGGIE COOKIES WITH HER!!!!
Mom didn't know what to do :o(
The doe raised her big white tail and lifted her nose away from mine and she stood ~ like a statue. As she stared at me, I stared back at her for what seemed like an eternity.... and all the while mom was holding her breath.
Then, just when mom thought she couldn't take the suspense any more, the doe whirled around and jumped into the forest and I......
followed, to where the woods had swollowed up the doe and there I stood, sniffing the grasses and bushes while mom hooked the leash up to my collar and we continued on our walk downhill towards the river.
Mom holds this picture in her heart as if it had happened yesterday.....
Love to all,
Mercury

....CHASING YOU ? ! !
Dear Diary,
OK, so here we were, me and dad walking down the road. I was looking for squirrels and dad was trying to hold me back. Dad says that all he remembers was that I was pulling, pulling pulling on the lead, I looked back to see how dad was holding up and my eyes bulged out of their sockets and dad had no choice but to run or to fall and get trampled. A horse was on the loose and it was not being what you would call "dog friendly". Dad said that after I took off like a jack rabbit he could hear the hooves beating on the pavement. He didn't have to turn around. "HE KNEW". We ran right up on the neighbors porch and the horse snorted and pawed the ground and HELD US HOSTAGE! No one was home at this neighbors(on whose porch we were trapped) and they were this horses owners. We were standing on this horse's porch, AND HE IWAS GETTING MIGHTY ANGRY AT US. After about 5 minutes someone that knew the horse stopped and rescued us.

ONE DAY,
I MAY LOOK UPON YOUR PICTURE,
AND NOT GRIP MY STOMACH LIKE IT WAS JUST KICKED.
ONE DAY,
I MAY LOOK UPON YOUR PICTURE,
AND NOT HAVE TEARS SOAK MY FACE OR MY SHIRT.
ONE DAY,
I MAY LOOK UPON YOUR PICTURE,
AND NOT GET A HEADACHE THAT TAKES THREE DAYS TO GO AWAY.
ONE DAY,
I MAY LOOK UPON YOUR PICTURE,
AND NOT FEEL LIKE I'M GOING TO FAINT.
ONE DAY,
I MAY LOOK UPON YOUR PICTURE,
AND NOT SOB OUT LOUD.
TODAY WAS NOT THAT DAY.
I MISS YOU WITH ALL OF MY HEART.
MY ANGEL, MY SWEET SWEET ANGEL,
LOVE,
MOM

Hi There! If anyone is looking at me.. don't look too close-- I was not perfect. First of all- my doggie momma Cleo bit the end of my tail off when I was a wee baby. But from the way I could Zig-Zag-Zig super fast you would have never noticed; and wag; my tail loved to wag ~then I got bit on the ear tip by a much bigger dog- he almost bit it OFF! no poop. It never went up again. boo-hoo : ( and somehow I broke a tooth- not too bad, it didn't hurt or anything... and I did eat my share of ice cream : ) and all this happened before I was 1 !
... and allergies- bug bites, apples(oooh- that was a bad one- pooping like a firehose- damn near killed me- lost a TON of weight in two days), bangs, scrapes, slipped going around the ring on the mat in the show ring once~ limped for a week and a half. that is just a start on the bad luck. If I had been born a cat- 9 would not have been enough.

A 10 year old girl was looking in a book, when she saw a picture of a dog; under the picture it said "Ibizan Hound", "rare outside Spain and the Balearic Islands", from that day forward she looked for information on the Ibizan Hound. the more she read, the more she dreamed, the more she wanted one, until one day she felt that she had researched enough and was finally ready to dream out loud. every minute from the phone call that told her the mommy dog was pregnant made the years disappear until the arrival day when she felt she was 10 years old again; but this time instead of just looking at a picture she was really truly , finally, holding her puppy. They were inseparable, if the puppy couldn't go then neither did she, and they had a very happy life. He slept in her bed, ate at her table, they watched movies together, went for drives, walks, swims, bike rides and lots of other stuff. In 2 years they had spent a lifetime together, it was as if he could read her thoughts and she could read his, that is how close they had become. Mercury was a sensitive redhead, during the last part of his second summer he developed an allergy to bug bites, his mommy took him to the doctors to see if they could do something for his itching. the doctor told mommy that he had alopecia and he needed a prednisone injection, but mommy said " NO" that she had read somewhere that greyhounds and greyhound type breeds shouldn't have prednisone but she couldn't remember where she had read it. mommy fixed Mercury's collar and opened the door to leave the doctors office when Mercury startled, the doctor had given him the injection anyway. the next night at 7 p.m. when mommy finally gave up on mouth to mouth, Mercury died on the table at the doctors office with his mommy's arms around him and his head pressed against her heart.
