I had finally got over the loss of my dog Malibu a wonderful shepherd cross and decided it was time for a new buddy. I asked my landlord if I could have a dog and he said yes but it had to be small. I never thought of myself as a "small dog owner" so I started looking at smaller breeds. I wanted a buddy that could hike with me and keep up. My favorites were, the MinPin, Basenji or a Schipperke. I kept a close eye on the shelters and local papers and finally saw a MinPin advertised as "free to a good home". I called and left a message but sadly never heard back. I wasn't in a rush to get a dog as it had to be the right one... A few months later a man called me asking if I was still looking for a dog and I was, he had a MinPin! He really didn't want to give him away but sadly his wife left him with two little kids and he tried for months to find a place that would let him have both. He couldn't find such a rental. He told me to come over and meet the dog or he was going to have to take him to the SPCA the next day! I couldn't have that. I drove to North Van and when I arrived I saw Chopper. I knew right away this was MY dog!!!! I told the man I would love to have him and will love him with all my heart! He cried when we left, it was so sad. He had Chopper for 5 years, since he was a pup. We kept in touch initially but I sensed it was hard for him but he was happy knowing Chop is loved.
