Likes:
I LOVE to drool! I drink big gulps from the water bucket, then I drool everywhere! I drool on furniture and my brothers and sisters, and if I shake my head, I can drool on the walls and ceiling! I also like to slime Grandma's clean pants when she visits.

Pet-Peeves:
I don't like it when the cats run over me when I'm laying down trying to sleep.

Favorite Toy:
I like to chew on Basil or my Galileo bone.

Favorite Food:
I will eat anything and everything!

Favorite Walk:
I don't go on walks much cause my hip hurts a lot these days. I get to go play in the backyard sometimes and chase my brothers around.

Best Tricks:
I can DROOL!!!! I'm good at tripping people, too. I lay down in the middle of the floor and make people walk around me. And sometimes, just when they think it's safe, I reach out with my big paw (Mom says I've got "sloth claws") and grab their leg.

Arrival Story:
All I remember from my old life is that I was outside on a chain and always hungry. Then one day a man in a uniform came and took me away from the lady that had me. He said she was neglecting me. Then he took me to the shelter where my mom worked. She took me home to nurse me back to health. She said I was severely malnurished (I only weighed 69 lbs!), and that I had something called heartworm, whatever that is. I got hurt when I was younger so my hip is always sore, and had too many puppies cause they never got me spayed.

Bio:
Mom took real good care of me when she got me home. She fed me good food so I got fattened up, and she treated me for that heartworm thing. When I got healthy enough, Mom got me spayed. I was a little sore at first, but I was glad I had the surgery. Mom said I had a false pregnancy before, and that I was real mean to my brother Godfrey. I felt bad, but I couldn't really help it. The hormones made me do it! Mom says I'm a perfect dog now. I'm big and beautiful (now I weigh 125 lbs!!!), but Mom says I'm a little small, even for a female.

Deep Thoughts..... by Athena

Athena has crossed the Rainbow Bridge

I regret to inform you all that my beloved mastiff Athena, my pride and joy, passed away on Nov 14, 2008.

Athena had been having some health issues lately. After some bloodwork came back indicating the possibility of cancer, it was determined that Athena needed a chest x-ray to see exactly what we were dealing with. She needed to be mildy sedated to get a clear radiograph. Unfortunately, the condition of her heart (which, it turns out, was surrounded by a huge cancerous mass) was far weaker than any of us knew. She did not survive the anesthesia, despite all efforts to save her life.

When I rescued Athena in 2001, I didn't realize that she would become such an integral part of my life. I hope I was able to enriche her life anywhere near as much as she lit up mine. I can't even put into words how much I miss her and how my heart aches. My only solace comes in the fact that I know she is now able to run (and drool!) free from the pain of a bad hip and the discomfort of a body falling apart around her.

Although 9 years is a long life for a giant breed, it still wasn't nearly enough...
