we were at a hole-in-the-wall pet store buying a rat for our ball python. i look down and see a sickly, pathetic, 3-lb puppy staring up at me. her family had ditched her and her sister at the shop, which was trying to adopt them out, with no luck. we didn't want a dog at that time, so we bought our rat and walked away. we came home, looked at each other, and turned right around to go back to the store. we knew right then that she was "the one."
