Arrival Story:
Ms. Buttercup had a rough start to her life. She was born down in Florida by drug dealers who bred her to be a "bait dog" to train pit bulls to fight. For those of you who don't know what that means.. She was basically bred to die. They throw bait dogs in with the fighting dogs to train them to kill. Somehow Buttercup survived, and was rescued during a raid by the local humane society. She ended up being diagnosed with heartworm - an often lethal disease if the worms aren't caught in time, and the treatment is pretty dangerous as well. She was treated and cured from her heartworm, and then adopted by a homeless man. She lived in his car with him and he loved her and she loved him very much. Unfortunately he passed away and she ended up at his sister's house. She was then brought to a local shelter where she was put in a bad situation with lots of angry dogs. She was scared for her life b/c it reminded her of the pit bull training place and she started cage fighting with other dogs next to her (they were only separated by chainlink fences). The shelter was going to kill her, when her new mom walked in the door and asked who she could foster next. One of the Board of Directors to the shelter was there and she grabbed Buttercup and sent her home with her new mom. She was a foster dog for 6 months while her new fostermom worked hard with Buttercup to get her to overcome her fears. After 6 months we adopted her because we were afraid she'd get put down anywhere else. It's been 2 years and a lot of work on Butt's part and ours and now she's an amazingly sweet dog who has come so far!! She's a very important part of our family!

Going to Paris... Paris France that is!

I'm going to Paris France!!!

June 27th 2007 10:59 am   [link to this entry]

Last night I found out that mom has booked us on http://www.dogtravelco.com on the NY to Paris flight!!!! I'm a fairly well traveled dog. I've been all over the eastern US in a car. (I used to live in a car with my old dad. .. that was our home) BUT boy am I excited!!! The flight is in late October!!!

From what I hear, France is a really dog friendly country!!! Mom said she's been in the grocery store in Paris and she's seen dogs going grocery shopping with their people!! Can you imagine actually being able to pick out the real good food first hand!! Not just out of the refrigerator but where it actually comes from!!!???

She also said that dogs can go into the department stores sometimes too. I'm not sure I have much need for Paris Fashion.. but you never know. I may just look even more beautiful in a red berret!

There is some talk of a river barge cruise in paris as well but I'm not sure of the specifics yet, There is a lot of visiting to be done, I wonder if they'll let us see Versaille! I hear that's a great place to go... and maybe the catacombs??? Think of all the bones ... they probably should not let me down there.. I'd never come out!!! It would be too much fun!!!

Anyway - it would be fun to have some friends on the trip!!!
