Likes: His mommy and daddy, his stuffed toys, meeting new people (especially kids), frolicking outside, watching the Phillies with Mom and Dad, kisses on the bridge of his nose, and belly rubs.
Pet-Peeves: Water! ...in any situation... mainly baths. He screams like he's being tortured. He also whines outside when his feet get wet. What a weenie.
Favorite Toy: Rope bone, stuffed skunk, and stuffed hedgehog. RIP Boomer's squirrel... he killed it and ripped the squeaker out.
Favorite Food: Blue Buffalo: chicken w/ brown rice, edible nylabones, tartar bones... he might be spoiled.
Favorite Walk: Boomer loves walking around the neighborhood... last stop is the tennis courts where he gets unleashed and chases balls around.
Best Tricks: Boomer can sit, give both paws, and lay down. He also knows "stop", "wait", "leave it", and "drop it". He loves learning.
Arrival Story: We had a Shiba Inu last year who sadly passed away way before his time. His name was Johnny and he is still greatly missed. After 6 months, we randomly came across a breeder not obscenely far from us. As coincidence would have it, her dog was due for a litter any day. We originally were hoping for a red one, but the whole litter ended up being cream with only one male. We took that as some pretty good fate. Boomer was a lucky find. Though no dog will ever replace our Johnny, Boomer is the perfect addition to our little family.
Wow this summer has gone really fast... I feel kinda bad I haven't been visiting my Dogster friends in a while. Mom started her internship so she hasn't been able to update my page for me.
My family has been very busy. In July we moved to our new apartment. I love it here! There aren't any roommates with stupid chocolate labs that steal my toys. Our neighbor has a Husky puppy and today I met a Mini Poodle/Bichon mix named Molly. The apartment is very big with very big windows and a nice wide sill that I like to stand on and look outside. There's a bunny that lives next to our building... he likes to tease me when I go on my walk. Mom won't let me catch him.
I've gotten really big! I just turned 5 months old and I'm teething like crazy. Mom wasn't very happy when I lost 2 teeth on my walk yesterday and bled all over her pants. I think she was more mad that I ate my teeth before she could get them. I've lost all my bottom teeth and my front top ones and she didn't get any of them hahaha. I'm too fast for her. Mom and Dad gave me my own pillow for me to chew when I'm about to lose my teeth. Ok... I kinda stole it before they OK'd it... but it's mine now regardless.
I've discovered that I love crabapples. I don't eat them... I just annoy my parents by picking up 500 of them on every walk.
My training has gone really well. Mom's really scared that I might get hit by a car like Johnny... so she trained me to stop and sit at corners. Yesterday she accidentally dropped my leash. I ran ahead and she got scared, but I stopped and sat at the corner and waited for her. She was so happy... I got lots of kisses and 2 treats. I'm so awesome. I also learned "wait"... which I don't particularly like because it involves sitting and waiting to eat until after they put my food down and say "ok", but I do it. The last thing I was taught was to sit and wait at the door, even if it's open, until they say I can go out. That one took me a while because I can't wait to get outside, but Mom's paranoid and she doesn't let me out until I do it anyway. I figure I might as well do it.
I might be a super genius, but I'm still a jerk sometimes. Two days ago, I broke a vase, and I've been consistently trying to get into the trash. Recently, I've discovered how to unroll my food bag and treat myself to an early dinner. And I beg for food, even though they never give me any. Mom and Dad hope that I calm down after I get neutered next month... whatever that means.
It's been a while... I've been pretty busy. Mom and Dad have been taking me to all sorts of places and I've been meeting a lot of new people... like the vet. I LOVE my vet! I've been there twice and the second time, once I realized where I was, I got super excited and tried to run into the exam room before it was my turn! They didn't let me though. Then, apparently I got this thing called a shot. They tell me I did. I don't recall such things... I didn't react at all... much to my parents' surprise.
Last week, a new Doberman puppy moved in down the street from us. Her dad came over to our house to meet me and to ask Mom and Dad if I could come out to play. He had seen me on a walk and thought I was adorable, naturally. Dad took me to their house to play and at first I was a little shy, but now I'm really happy that I made a new friend. I also got to play with a Boston Terrier named Hudson who lives across the street, but he was lazy.
Mom has been taking me running at night because it's too hot to play outside during the day. We go to a school's playing field and run around the track. I used to get tired fast and Mom would carry me home, but now I'm getting big enough to last 2 laps and then walk home by myself. Mom's proud of me.
I also have a learning hour every other night when Mom teaches me new things so I can surprise Dad with my genius. I'm running out of basic commands to learn! She's trying to teach me this "stay" concept, but no thank you... I'd rather go where she goes.
My name is Boomer and I am a 7 1/2 week old Shiba Inu. I spent my life until now on a farm in Ephrata. My breeder was a very nice lady who kept in contact with my new family from the day I was born until the day I left her home. When I was 3 weeks old, my new mommy and daddy, Stephanie and Kevin, came to visit me for the first time and to meet my doggie mom and dad. They fell in love with me instantly.
My breeder's children played with me every day until Mommy and Daddy came to take me to my new home a few days ago. They are so impressed with how affectionate I am! At first, I was a little nervous. The car ride was kinda scary but then they took me to the puppy store and got me my own toys and bed and collar. Oh and the leash. I hate the leash.
I LOVE my new home! I've adjusted extremely well and love playing in the backyard with my new parents. Everyone that I come into contact with tells me how adorable I am. I'm also a super genius because I am already housebroken with only one tiny accident (and that error was credited to Mom for putting me down to reach for her hoodie. Duh, Mom.) Though I've caught onto things quickly, there are still some things I need to work on. Mommy doesn't particularly like it when chomp her fingers during play, and Daddy isn't fond of me chewing his dress shoes and bureau knobs. I overheard something about a spray bottle today... and something about vinegar. I guess I'll find out what that's about tomorrow.
Overall, I'm very sweet and energetic. I love my squeaky bug and my rope toy the most. At night, I walk myself into my crate, lay down, and chew on my nylabone until I fall asleep. Tonight though, I've been trying to con Mom into letting me stay up a little later. (She said no.) I love being held and kissed. I also love nibbling ears and hair, and meeting new people. I am extremely friendly and approachable.
I played myself into exhaustion today, so I'm going to turn in and chew my bone. Mmmm chicken flavor.
