Maggie's Health

It's been 16 months since we saw the specialist which took xrays and sent us to get some bone/tendon imagery done to see if we can find the source of her limp. The imagery came back clean. They could not find anything other than what was on the xrays which is mild hip dysplasia.
I don't really know what caused her to limp but she has greatly improved. I had her on glucosamine and nsaids when she was in a lot of pain. I gave her the pain meds when needed, not daily.
I can't say the glucoseamine stopped the limping since I quit giving it to her, but none the less, she rarely limps anymore.

For the past year, I have seen her limp maybe once or twice. I still walk her every day to keep her strong and she did lose about 8 pounds. I am so happy she has not been in any pain the past year. I hope it remains this way.

Bad Hips

We found out Maggie has mild to moderate hip dysplasia a few months ago. She has been on suppliments for 5 months now. She seems to be doing fine. I notice she will limp after laying down for a while as well as when the weather is cooler. She gets up on the bed less, but she doesn't normally sleep with us in the warmer months anyway. We meet with a specialist next week to discuss our options. We have her on a diet to get a few lbs off of her. We exercise her every day as well to keep her muscles strong. She's only 3 years old and the sweetest dog ever. She gives good cuddles too. I will do anything for my dogs and I don't want her in pain. I hope we can just stay on suppliments and weight loss for a while longer. I hate to have to do surgery but if it makes her better then we will do it. I have a lot of research to do because I want to know what to expect and it will also help us determine when to do surgery. She has been full of energy lately which is a good thing!
