Arrival Story:
We were a very happy single dog owner (Maggie May) until our neighbor, who happened to be a very young and not so responsible NFL (Redskin) Star decided to get a puppy. He was/is a much better Football player than he was a dog owner. Little Chico as a tiny little 3 lb puppy and his brother, Little Wheezie, were often left outside to go to the bathroom and then forgotten about. They would escape through the slats in the fence and various neighbors would end up taking them in, feeding, bathing, and in general dog sitting them. The dogs were emaciated and neglected. They would be left in the house by themselves for long periods of time when the football star would travel. We don't know what happened to Little Wheezie but soon after Christmas 2002, Wheezie disappeared and it was just Chico. Later, Chico was left in the garage, by himself for a week during a fridgid February. The neighbors became concerned when little Chico stopped barking. We were able to lift the garage door just enough to slide frisbees full of water and food inside. Then, one of the neighbors called animal welfare and Redskin Player relations. After that instance, Chico finally got a rabies vaccination and it seemed like there was some incremental improvement in his care. Then, on Good Friday of Easter weekend, the football player knocked on our door and asked us to watch Chico for just the weekend since he was going out of town. We agreed. Chico had/has terrible allergies so in addition to being way under weight he had no hair on his paws and huge bald spots on his back. I feared that he had something contagious and immediately took him to my vet the next morning for an exam. I planned to give the football player/owner the bill. But, he ended up not coming back to get Chico for three weeks (as opposed to the three days he said he would be gone). In that time, we slowly nursed little Chi-bear back to health, got him all of his shots...and more importantly, bonded to him. I was determined never to let him go back to that situation again. Thankfully, it didn't take too much persuasion to let us keep him forever. He has been the sweetest little addition to our family.

Bio:
Chico is the best sweetest dog Ever! He is just a little love bug. Albeit a plump little bug presently. He adores children. All of the neighborhood kids come to play with him and he loves it. He's not like other little dogs who can be intimidated by rough youngsters....he lets them touch him all over and wags his little tail...burries his little head in their hands or laps, just begging for more love. He doesn't have a mean/snippy bone in his body. Well okay, when it comes to food....maybe he can get a little protective.
