Arrival Story: I came from the coast of South Carolina to Aiken with my sister Coffee. I loved my daddy very much, but now I have a new mommy. She is very nice. She loves me very much. Coffee now has a new mommy too. She says shes having a blast getting into all her socks. Me too! It's wonderful.
Normally I am a hyper little Chihuahua, who is the first one there for dinner. Well last night(5/12/09) I didn't come in the kitchen for my food, and wouldn't eat even if mom tried to hand feed me. I really don't feel good at all. Before mom tried to go to sleep last night I must have thrown up 8 times. I had a accident in the kitchen, thankfully mom leaves a pad down just in case any of my pack has to go. Mom put my crate together and lined it with paper and a small bed. I threw up a couple more times. By 3:30 I was doing okay, so mom went to bed. When she woke this morning(5/13/09) I had a really runny bloody accident. I still wouldn't eat any food. Mom called the vet, and I had to be there at 11:00. I seemed to be doing better, no throwing up, no pooping.
The dogter said I lost a half of a pound in one week(just last week I went for my check up), my temperature was 98.6 low for us doggies, I was really dehydrated, and my stomach is full of gas. The dogter said I had to be admitted. She is gonna put me on an IV drip with antibiotics to rehydrate me. I have to stay overnight here at the vet's office. That's okay because I feel really bad and I'd like to be alone for a while. Plus I have my very own heating pad to keep me warm.
Mommy says the dogter called her and my blood work isn't too bad. Liver and Kidneys look good. White blood cell is low and electrolytes are off due to the dehydration. The dogter said she'd call mommy again later this evening to let her know how I am doing. Keep you paws crossed for me.
I will update this entry later when mom knows more. Love-Brute Man.
Update: At 6:20pm(5/13/09) the vet called mommy to tell her I am on the track of becoming a better puppy. The dogter told mom that I am up moving around, not looking so depressed, and was getting my spirit back in my eyes. She also told mom she'd call her at 8:00 in the morning and hopefully I will be able to come home with meds and such at that time. Boy I hope so, I'm starting to miss them. I'll let you pup know how it goes tomorrow. Love-Brute
Update: At 8:00am(5/14/09) the dogter called mommy to tell her I am doing a lot better. I came off my IV's and I gobbled by breakfast up. Mom says that sounds like me. I had no accidents through the night. The dogter also told her that she wants to keep me until 10:00am to make sure I keep my food down. I will be going home with antibiotics and bland dog food.
Update: 10:30am(5/14/09) I am home :D!!!! I feel so much better. Mom asked the nurse were they trying to spoil me. They gave her some canned food to feed me and gradually mix my regular food in with it. I like it! I have to take meds for the next two weeks and eat that canned food. Mom says I'm back to normal, cause first thing I did was wag my tail really fast and went to find my squeaky toy to play. I want to thank Dr. Brown and the nurses at Aiken Animal Hospital for helping me get better so fast. Love-Brute Man
Diagnosis: The dogter can't put an exact cause on why I got sick, but she and mom are pretty sure it's because I had to eat some chicken on Sunday morning(5/10/09). Mom forgot to go to the doggie store the day before to buy us some more food. She normally gets it at a special dog bakery store. They were closed on Sundays and we have a stupid blue law rule here(nothing opens till 1:30pm on Sundays), so she fed us chicken and plain rice. I think it was the chicken that made my stomach upset and all my accidents that made me dehydrate.
