Arrival Story:
I had been looking for a small dog for quite sometime. The local rescue organizations never seemed to have a small dog that wasn't already adopted. I finally located a woman in town who placed small dogs that she found in various locations. In early January 2003, she told me that Fannie Mae would be available in about a month. (Her name was Maddie of Walk on Madison Avenue when I adopted her.) She finally called and told me that Fannie Mae was ready for me to take home. I just fell in love with her at first sight. She was so adorable and had such a funny bark (evidently her vocal cords were clipped).

I found out after adopting Fannie Mae that she had just had a litter of 3 pups and had had to have a C-Section. She was raised in a neighboring state. The breeder decided to not keep her after the C-Section, so she became available once the pups were weaned. Unfortunately she was not spayed at the time of the C-section so she had to have surgery again shortly after I received her. She has a half-brother in the same town where she now lives. She is very protective of my 94 year old aunt who lives with us now. She takes a bit of time (weeks) to get to know someone, but is very sweet and loving once she feels secure. Quite an independent little monster! Neither of my cats are intimidated by her which makes her very indignant.

So - it was a happy, happy day. Mom brought out my halter and leash and we went off in the CAR!! Wow! Except things took a down turn from there. She left me! She left me at the "Vets" whatever that is - for a whole week - and not only that while I was there they 'cleaned my teeth' whatever that is! I just know I was woozy for a while. The aid told me that she told mom when she called to see how I was that I was pretty nervous but it didn't hurt my appetite at all! But I showed them - I refused to potty outside for the first few days. The aid had to keep washing my blankie and stuffed toys - that showed them. And then when mom picked me up I pretended to not know her - darn tho - that didn't last long because I was soooooooooo happy to see her. And, I got to ride in the CAR!! Oh, happy, happy day!!

Mom doesn't appreciate me.

Today I brought Mom a present but she wasn't very happy about it. I showed up at the door after being outside only for a few minutes and even teased her by letting her see the tail dangling from my mouth. She wouldn't let me in the house with the mouse rat thingy tho. I dropped it so she could see it better and she distracted me with dinner! So I ran in the house planning to retrieve my prize after dinner. Mom told me later she picked it up with a shovel and tossed it over the wall. I was running around the yard like crazy trying to find it. Hopefully, I can find a better one for her another day. (I don't get it - she wasn't happy when I brought her the baby quail either - or the quail eggs last year.)

(Mom's 2 cents - Ick, Yuck, YUCK!!!!)

Today was a windy day. I was out patrolling my patio and there it was moving around the patio. I carefully stalked it and lunged at it several times. I finally was able to safely grab, shake and release! And, again! At last, my home is totally safe from that dangerous leaf! Victorious!!
