Arrival Story:
I wanted a Golden Retriever for a long time. I have seizures and wanted to train a Golden as a Seizure Detection dog. My friend and I searched the newspaper and went to a few breeders. I saw a chubby polar bear looking puppy that wanted me to hold him the whole time I was near him. Since Odie was one of 10 puppies and only 2 identical looking males I chose color then personality. When the decision was made, the breeder placed a different color collar on him so we could tell which one was Odie. I should have known what kind of devil he would be. Before he came home he chewed the collar off. I brought him home on the hottest day of the year. It was over 100 degrees and the new collar I bought him did not fit his fat A**. I remember running across the parking lot into petsmart with him in my arms to get his new collar. I used to hold him a lot and tell him I wanted to hold him as much as I could because someday I would not be able to lift him. The day came quicker then I anticipated. I miss the baby size but, he still has the mischievious puppy behavior that makes me laugh.

Odie likes to: Eat, play, Eat, Sleep, Eat, Chew, Eat, Chase, Eat, Run, Eat, Swim, Eat, Dig, Eat, Bark. And oh, did I mention Eat???? Mommy always says I am a spoiled rotten brat. I throw temper tantrums if I don't get what I want. I like to take my brother's toys and make them chase me. When they stop, I run back, let them smell it to start the chase again. I like to have mommy scratch my chest and belly. I will sit on Mommy's legs every night and will not move until she scratches my chest. I am the gotta have everything in my mouth type dog. I can grab food dropping in thin air almost instantly of leaving the hands. I "shark" my food at the speed of light. I have eaten socks, toys, sticks, bugs, kitty poo, my bed, etc Mommy says the difference between eat and chew is the swallow and the size of the poo and I am definitely eating this stuff. Mommy always tells me that my best traits are my innocent but mischievious behavior and the way my eyes squint from fat rolling forward when my head is down. I like to swim in our pool and dig in the yard. Daddy gets mad when I mix the two and swim in mudpits as you see from my pictures. I try to say I'm sorry and greet him with my paws but I can tell he doesn't like my paw prints on his shirt.

Today 6/23/09 I was able to celebrate my 5th birthday. I owe a special thanks to my Mommy's co-worker that loves to pet me and found a lump on my back and brought it to the attention of my mom.
My Mom had the vet biopsy the lump and was found to be a Malignant Soft tissue Sarcoma. After surgery and a few vet visits (minor complications from the surgery), I was up running and wagging my tail and feeling good again.
This section is dedicated to all who love animals, even other people's, just sometimes the right person comes along and will by chance save your life. My mom did a lot of crying but we got through it and owe a big thanks to Monica!
