Mom took me back to the surgical hosptial today to have me evaluated for rehab. The lady talked at length with mom and then took me in the back and put me in the water treadmill and put me on one of those big exercise balls and checked my range of motion of all 4 of my legs. She told mom I was kinda scared when she was trying to make my back legs stretch straight out, but she said other than that I did real good. I'm going to go twice a week, starting next Wed and then next Friday, and every Wed and Friday for 3 weeks. We bought a 6 session package and then we'll see how I'm doing. They also want mom to start walking me every day for 7 mins. (guess we'll both be benefiting from the walking and mom's benefit isn't for rehab but more for getting her to lose weight! BOL) They also suggested I go back for accupuncture because that'll work well with the surgery and the hydrotherapy rehab.
So that's the latest update on me. I'll be letting ya'll know how the rehab is helping me in a few weeks.
Doo, that sounds like very good news and we know that all of this is going to help you get back to your old Miss Doo self. Sending Christmas wishes!
Doo, hope everything went ok. Who was the Doc that operated on you? Peter has been doing very well, I hope you are ok too. Please pawmail if you need anything at all. Hugs.
Yeah, Sophie, what started all this rehabbing talk was this weekend I went charging outside when mom was talking to someone who was going to do some work around the house and every since then I've been limping real bad. (Mom has been watching me 24/7, but those 2 minutes set me back a little.) The rehab person said it could be inflammed tissue or it could just be the residuals from the surgery itself. But she thinks the rehab will do me lots of good and get my muscles stronger that had atrophied since I haven't used that front leg to its full potential in over a year.
Peter and Lisa, the surgeon was Dr. Israel. She's really nice and we liked her alot. Did Peter have rehab done after his surgery? Celeste is the rehab technician who will be working with Doo. I had wanted to know how they handled the dogs after the treadmill in the water, did they blow dry them, or use a wet suit or just send them home wet. She said they just towel dry them off real good and they're basically wet when we take them home. I sure hope she doesn't get sick from being wet with our weather being so cool. That's all we would need. :/
Good luck with your Intervention!
Wait, I guess that's different than rehab.
Keep us all posted and we wish you well!
Lou what about a fleece jacket for Doo?
Sounding really really GOOD Sweetheart !
Hope it all goes well...looking forward to updates!
Swimming...well treadmill under water is excellent therapy.
Hope it all goes well. I wish I could get to get in the water in winter, but momma is mean and says no. She says I are crazy!
Hydrotherapy works awesome. I had some after I had my CCL surgery. I never did have acupuncture, but know several pups that did have it and they did very well. Good luck with the rehab!
Sounds good, Doo!!! Take it easy, ok? We love you lots!
Oh sounds great! All the techs there are amazing and the level of care is awesome! Peter didn't need the water therapy. He's basically running already and back to his "normal" self. They did offer the therapy though but felt it wasn't necessary and Peter hates the water so I figured he's not take well to it. But, the weather has been not-so-cold- so Doo should do just fine. I would imagine they just towel them off but maybe they do use a blow dryer or even have a big dryer there that they put them in for a couple of minutes like at the groomers. Wishing you a speedy recovery!
SOUNDS LIKE A GREAT PLAN....SURE NICE TO HEAR THINGS ARE GOING WELL FOR YOU MISS DOO. MERRY CHRISTMAS,HUGS,MAZY
