Best Tricks:
Sadie doesn't do "tricks," but she learned to sit for dinner in one try, and she knows the difference between work days and non-work days, and what it means as far as what's expected of her.

Arrival Story:
I met Sadie about three months before I adopted her. She was 18 months old, weighed about 40 lb, and had spent the majority of her young life in a crate. The young woman who had her at the time was my daughter's roommate, and had rescued Sadie from her abusive life. Unfortunately, her circumstances had changed so that she was not going to be able to keep the dog, and she tearfully begged me to take her, knowing she'd have a good home here with us. I have a huge house, but almost no yard, and it's certainly not fenced, but I returned home and my husband and I talked it over. Sadie was such a sweet dog, in spite of all she'd been through, but did we really want to take on another big dog? Within a few days, we were told they thought they'd found a home for Sadie, and I was relieved, and slightly sad. Six weeks later, however, that home was non-existent and Sadie once again was in need of loving care. She'd put on a bit more weight, and was looking a lot better at about 62 lb, but still needed more attention than she was getting. So once again I talked to my husband and, in January, 2006, Sadie came to live with us. Since that time, she's filled out to a stable, solid 79 lb, made friends with our other dog and 3 cats, and my birds have learned to tolerate her. And she only ate 2 pairs of my shoes!

Bio:
Sadie is a brilliant dog. She learns things faster than any dog I have ever owned or known. Unfortunately, my neighbors think I have a vicious dog because she jumps around and growls like a she's going to rip someone's leg off whenever a car goes down the alley or if someone walks past the house. She only does this if she's outside unsupervised, because if I'm out there with her, everyone who comes by is just her best buddy ever. But she even goes after my car, which is just weird. It must be related to her puppyhood, but I'm not sure how to break this one bad habit.
