Arrival Story: We adopted Rusty from the Humane Society. We happened to be there one day looking at the animals and this beautiful red dog attracted our attention. He looked just like a red fox and had the most unique amber colored eyes. We instantly fell in love with him. Rusty was picked up as a stray and this was his first day at the shelter. He was on a 7 day hold in case his owner claimed him so we put our name on a waiting list to come back in seven days to see him. We were the first name on the list and Rusty was such a popular boy there were three other families on the list after us ready to snatch up Rusty if we didn't. We of course adopted him and he has been the new love of our life. He is the most calm natured, gentle dog yet so completely full of energy! The shelter told us he was a sheppard mix. We knew that wasn't true. We jokingly would say he was a Dingo. His obedience trainer told us he looked like a Cattle Dog so that is what we went with. Everything sort of fit the description except for his tail which has a fish hook look to it and his coloring. Cattle Dog's have Dingo in them so we even thought he could be a dingo/cattle dog mix. One day a man approached us and asked what kind of dog Rusty was. We said we weren't sure and he told us he thought he was a Carolina dog. We had never heard of this so we looked it up. To find out this is what Rusty is was amazing!! We knew he was a unique dog when we found him. As one website described Carolina Dogs, Rusty is truly the "perfect dog"!!
