My first Dig & Keeping it pawsitive!

Hi, my name is Duke (Dukester to my friends) and I’ve got a lot to say. So boy am I glad that Mom finally got around to doing the typing for me. For my first entry, I’m going to start by telling you a little more about me and my interests.
First, I’m a Southern pup. I was born in a puppy mill in Georgia and spent most of my first year in pretty bad conditions. I was lucky though; some wonderful rescue angels took me in and hooked me up with Mom. Oh, Mom is Southern too. She’s from North Carolina. Funny thing is, neither of us have an accent. We’re both living up North and like it just fine. Well, unless it gets REALLY cold!
Okay, more about me. I’m a fairly little guy, but Mom and I love all furkids of every size and color. One of my favorite buddies at the dog park is a Great Dane! Some of the things that are dear to my fuzzy little heart are rescue, TNR, ending breed discrimination, pet nutrition and integrative veterinary medicine.
I also believe in pawing it forward and keeping things pawsitive. In human speak that’s paying it forward and keeping positive. So when I write about issues dear to me I’m going to emphasize the good that’s happening to fix the bad. I believe that you don’t have to be a big brave Mastiff or police dog to change the world for the better. Even the tiniest Chihuahua can make a huge difference by getting educated and lending a paw. You know the saying, many paws make light work. In the upcoming entries, I’m going to be posting links to articles and other pawsitive information for us furkids and our families.
To kick things off, I’m going to post a links to a couple of neat sites. Mom and I have heard fairly often from people that think they can’t adopt a purebred dog puppy or specific mix through rescues or shelters. These people often think that breeders are the only way to go. It’s just not true. If people are willing to wait for even a little while, they can even find puppies of some very rare breeds in rescue. The two links below are great places to start. The first one, I think most of you know about. It’s Petfinder; a wonderful searchable database of shelters and rescues from all across the country for all kinds of animals and breeds. The second is Rescue Me, a similar database that lists rescues, shelters, and pets needed rehomed. Please check them out!
